 ON MORALITY
THE WAY OF CULTIVATION

In addition, the collection of Great Treasures [Da Bao Ji Jing] advises, “Do not lead others astray; reconcile with who cannot get along with others; study adequately, and avoid double-tongued people”. According to the Sutra of the Buddha of infinite life, “Coarse language harms oneself and others - it is harmful to all. Cultivating and using good language benefits oneself and others - it is mutually beneficial”. The Sutra of Illuminating Light [Chu Yo Jing] states, ” Those who harm others will themself be harmed; those who complain about others will themself be complained about; those who curse others will themself be cursed; those who attack others will themself be attacked”. The Surata Sutra Discoursed by the Buddha [Surataparipiccna Sutra] also asserts, “Deception is the root of all unwholesomeness. Cutting off wholesome deeds results in the accumulation of suffering. How does it profit a person to lie?” Morality is our path of cultivation.

felt need in the area

of Indological

There are several

Universities
in India
which conduct courses in
Pāḷi.

Unfortunately
there is no text book in English medium
