Exercise 2

 

1. I shall not fear the fetters.

 

Ahaṁ saṁyojanāi na bhāissāmi

 

 

2. I shall go for refuge to the
   Awakened One, to the

Sacred teaching, to the Holy Order.

 

Ahaṁ
Buddhassa, Dhammassa, Saṅgassa

saraṇaṁ
gamissāmi.

 

 

3. The Awakened One’s teachings
   will give power to

Mind.

 

Buddhassa Dhammā cittassa balaṁ
dassati.

 

 

4. The wise disciples of the
   Awakened One will protect

The truth by moral conduct.

 

Buddhassa Paṇḍitā sāvakā silena saccaṁ

Rakkhissanti.

 

 

 

5. We will not do evil and will
   sow merit and will bring

Wealth

 

Mayaṁ pāpaṁ na
kaissāma, puññañca
vapissāma,

Dhanañca āharissāma.

 

 

6. Men will gain knowledge by the
   development of

The mind.

 

Manussā cittabhāvanāya ñāṇaṁ
labbhissanti.

 

 

7. Yes, the wise do not beg
   wealth, they will get

Wealth through the protection of the
Teachings of

the Awakened One.

 

Āma, Paṇḍitā dhanaṁ na yācenti, te Budhassa

Dhammassa ārakkhanena dhanaṁ
labbhissanti.

 

 

8. The ignorant bring
   suffering  through killing, the wise

Bring happiness through the Awakened One’s

Teachings.

 

Bālā pāṇātipātena dukkhaṁ āharanti, Paṇḍitā

Budhassa Dhammaena sukhaṁ āharanti

What is Enlightenment and  Nibbana? Buddhist believe that there is a cycle of birth, life and death and rebirth. This goes on and on. They believe that unless someone gains Awakenment, when they die they will be reborn. If a person can gain Awakenment, they can break out of this cycle. Breaking out of the cycle is called Nibbana. It is the end of everything that is not perfect. It is perfect peace, free of suffering. Meditation Buddhists try to reach Nibbana by following the Buddha’s teaching and by meditating. Meditation means training the mind to empty it all of thoughts. when this happens what is important comes clear.
