FDI: BSP to back govt.Charges BJP of misusing CBI during NDA regime and its Cabinet had taken a view in favour of FDI.Mayawati says she is not afraid of CBI.
“
Supporting FDI in multi-brand retail,
she said her party will vote in favour of the government on Friday in
the Rajya Sabha because the policy has a plus point as it is not binding
on the state governments to implement it.
“If this motion is not defeated then the opposition will get a chance to
play politics… and the government would be wary of bringing in
several other important legislations in the Rajya Sabha, most notably
the one on reservations for SC/STs in promotions or the one on food
security. Therefore, the BSP has decided to vote with the government to
defeat this motion,” Mayawati said.

BSP and most of the people in this country feel that this decision will
impact the small traders and manufacturers adversely.

The policy should be tested and the govt should not decide in a hurry.
We suggest that the centre try this policy out in some Congress-ruled
states and see how the experience is in a time bound fashion.

She
sought to name members of the Lok Sabha on her party’s walkout on the
issue. She said by defeat of the motion “BJP leaders are feeling
disappointed”.
On FDI in multi-brand retail, she said the government should allow foreign direct investment “very carefully”.
“We need that kind of FDI which can create value addition and promote exports,” she said.
She also said that impact of FDI in multi-brand retail should be reviewed.

“The remarks that I got to read indicated their shallowness,
pettiness and cheap mentality,” Mayawati said referring to comments by
leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, Wednesday.
The BSP chief cited Swaraj’s barbs for her decision to go one step further in the Rajya Sabha and vote with the government.
Sources said that Mayawati had been seething over Swaraj’s
remarks and sensing an opportunity, the Congress reached out to her.
Kamal Nath is said to have explained to Mishra to not treat the vote as

stressed that a victory for the opposition would give a handle to the
BJP to stall the house, jeopardising the chances of the constitutional

New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday targetted BJP alleging that CBI was misused against her during NDA rule and dismissed its charge that she was siding with UPA on FDI issue because of government pressure through the investigating agency.
“I feel it is important to share how CBI was misused during NDA tenure. Ruling BJP at that time had put pressure of CBI on me. I would like to inform you that BJP investigated all cases for political purpose,” she said participating in the debate in Rajya Sabha on FDI in multi-brand retail.
The CBI was directed to investigate the Taj corridor and disproportionate assets cases after the BSP refused to fight 2004 General Election along with BJP, she said, adding that it was the BJP government in the state which took the decision on the Taj Corridor issue.
“In 2003, BJP said it was in favour of contesting election along with BSP. I said we can form the government but cannot contest elections together because of ideological differences. I refused to contest election and they said they will withdraw support. They did and I resigned as Chief Minister,” she said.
After the change in power, the two cases were pending with CBI. “But for last 8-9 years, opposition parties particularly BJP continued their propaganda whenever voting issue came,” Mayawati said.
Referring to the Taj Corridor and
disproportionate assets cases against her, the BSP chief claimed that
the two cases were false. Talking about the allegations made by BJP against her party over FDI vote in Lok Sabha, she said, “Yesterday, the Leader of the Opposition and some leaders accused my party and me that we walked out as there is CBI pressure on me. This is baseless.
” Ms. Mayawati reacted sharply to the remarks that her party was helping the government under CBI pressure saying the main opposition party is leveling such allegations after it found out that “grapes were sour” as its game plan did not succeed. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath said there was nothing in what the BSP supremo has said.
“ She said it has become a fashion to accuse the BSP of being under pressure from the CBI, adding that the BJP took the two cases to CBI for investigation.
Stressing that she was not afraid of CBI, Mayawati said, “I would like to say with conviction that we are not afraid of CBI. We are not afraid even in worst time. We have never misused the power.
