Emergent notices issued to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, others

BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court today ordered issue of emergent notices to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and state PCC chief
G Parameshwara on a petition seeking a probe into alleged collection of
funds from party members seeking tickets for the May 5 state Assembly
polls.

Justice Abdul Nazeer ordered issue of notices also to the Election Commission
and state Chief Electoral Officer on the plea by V Shashidhar, who,
claiming to be a Congress worker and a ticket aspirant, alleged Rs
10,000 each had been collected from such aspirants.

The
petitioner’s advocate, G R Mohan, prayed for a writ of mandamus to EC to
formulate proper guidelines and procedures to prevent funds collection
for the polls by political parties, specially Congress President and PCC
chief.

He also sought a direction to the EC to consider the
representation of the petitioner for holding a probe by the CBI or a
Special Investigation Team into the matter.

In his interim
prayer, the petitioner sought an interim order by the High Court to
direct the EC to seize the amount allegedly collected so far by the KPCC
chief.

“They have no authority of law to collect a sum of Rs
10,000 from each of its members for the Assembly elections 2013. The
total amount collected from about 2,500 members, may be more than Rs two
crore,” he claimed.

The counsel submitted that the petitioner,
along with other applicants for the assembly tickets, were required to
pay Rs 10,000 each for the constituency from where they wished to
contest as “party fund”.

The petitioner had remitted the sum by
demand draft for which a receipt was issued by the KPCC President, he

Poll notification issued, battle lines being drawn in Karnataka

BANGALORE: The poll process began in Karnataka today for the May 5
assembly polls with the notification being issued, paving the way for
candidates to file nominations.

The last day for filing
nominations is April 17, with scrutiny of papers the next day and the
last day for withdrawal on April 20.

Congress is finding it hard to finalise nominees for the remaining 47
seats, including sons of senior leaders M Mallikarjuna Kharge, N Dharam Singh and daughter of K H Muniyappa

 A 36-year-old software engineer ended his life
by hanging himself in his room at a paying guest accommodation in
Shantiniketan Layout, HAL police station limits, on Tuesday morning.

Manoj
Kumar, a resident of RT Nagar, was working with a leading IT firm in
the City. He was married to Pramila, also a software professional,
two-and-a-half years ago. The couple have a one-year-old son, Hrithik.

Police
sources said Manoj had stated in the death note purportedly written by
him that Pramila was threatening to lodge a complaint of dowry
harassment against him and his family members and get them all arrested.
Miffed at this, Manoj had left home two months ago and was living alone
at Tirupati PG Accommodation in Shantiniketan Layout.

 Jitendra
Kumar, the elder brother of Manoj, said Pramila and her mother Devi were
“too demanding and were ridiculing him for not earning much.”

“Pramila
and Devi had come to our house in Koramangala on Monday night and
created a huge ruckus threatening us that they would file a dowry
harassment case against us. When I tried calling my brother, his phone
was switched off. However, on Tuesday morning, I got a call from the
police saying my brother was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his
room at the PG,” said Jitendra Kumar.

Police said people at the

33-year-old software engineer allegedly hanged himself to death at his
flat in Ramamurthynagar on Tuesday night, following a heated argument
with his wife.

Gopal Kumar, a senior testing engineer at a
private company and a native of Tamil Nadu, was married to Geetha, and
the couple have a two-year-old daughter.

According to police,
Gopal had earlier married Shanthi and had a seven-year-old son from her.
The couple later parted ways owing to family pressure.

Police said he could not come out of the emotional trauma his break-up with Shanthi had caused him.

On Monday night, Gopal and Geetha fought over some issue and an upset Geetha went to bed.

When
Gopal did not enter the bedroom, Geetha grew suspicious and went out to
check and found him hanging dead from a ceiling fan in another room.

Neighbours who rushed to the flat hearing Geetha’s cry, alerted the police.

A 36-year-old software engineer ended his life by hanging himself in
his room at a paying guest accommodation in Shantiniketan Layout, HAL
police station limits, on Tuesday morning.

Kumar, a resident of RT Nagar, was working with a leading IT firm in
the City. He was married to Pramila, also a software professional,
two-and-a-half years ago. The couple have a one-year-old son, Hrithik.

Police
sources said Manoj had stated in the death note purportedly written by
him that Pramila was threatening to lodge a complaint of dowry
harassment against him and his family members and get them all arrested.
Miffed at this, Manoj had left home two months ago and was living alone
at Tirupati PG Accommodation in Shantiniketan Layout.

 Jitendra
Kumar, the elder brother of Manoj, said Pramila and her mother Devi were
“too demanding and were ridiculing him for not earning much.”

“Pramila
and Devi had come to our house in Koramangala on Monday night and
created a huge ruckus threatening us that they would file a dowry
harassment case against us. When I tried calling my brother, his phone
was switched off. However, on Tuesday morning, I got a call from the
police saying my brother was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his
room at the PG,” said Jitendra Kumar.

Police said people at the

hanged themselves to death in their flats on Tuesday for different
reasons.

In first incident, Manoj
Kumar (36) ended his life by hanging himself in his room at a paying
guest accommodation in Shantiniketan Layout, HAL police station limits,
on Tuesday morning.

in view of the earnings of lady
techies of so much of money they do not care for their husbands. Sati
Savithri days are gone ! Now they want luxury and no relationship with
anyone of husband’s side. They will put pressure on husbands not even
to talk to his parents or relatives for months together ! Command to act
the way they want to live and this hapless husband does not cooperate
then threaten to file the case against in-laws. What sort of ugly
behavior of these younger women. In some cases they even do not cook
food for th family and does not help her mother-in-law to cook food .
THE VICTIM IN THIS PROCESS IS THE HAPLESS HUSBAND - caught in between
his wife and his parents !

the US, they try to do the same thing.. they try to file a false case.
But the gender neutral laws do not encourage that. The courts in the US
are tired of Indian wives filing false cases.

Hey
crowd… I was married to my girlfriend when we completed 4 years in
relationship…. Her mom dint encourage us. However she was forced to
accept our wedding, she wanted to take a revenge….
I was slapped with dowry harassment case on 13th nov 2010. My sister, dad, mom and me were taken away be cops…
I immediately was asked to fall on to that bitches feet which I did as my parents were arrested…
Case
was taken back, we stayed happily, when it came to family planing, I
decided not to have one until my wife quits that bitch mom of hers….
Well, my wife quit… She left me n her father is demanding for compensation now…

I read today’s paper n found manoj who died of the pressure, I too am facing the same pressure….
Am
going to fight this time, I still love my baby doll but I will have to
sacrifice my relation to teach people not to misuse law…
