This paper presents a WWW (World Wide Web) based integrated product development platform for intelligent concurrent design and manufacturing
of sheet metal parts. In order to achieve this platform, several major
modules are discussed. These modules mainly include the structure of the
WWW-based integrated product development platform, an information integration framework, a RTCAPP (real time computer aided process planning) module, a customer interface module, and a design/manufacturing knowledge-based module for supporting product design and manufacturing. This paper gives the structure of the information integration framework for concurrent design and manufacturing of sheet metal parts. An information integration framework, called ’step structure information
framework’ is proposed. The principles, called ‘zero thickness and zero
bend radius’ are put forward, which can be used to abstract the
geometric entities of sheet metal parts in order to facilitate product design and modelling. Finally, case studies are given.

the new school of design in the design district of milan
Istituto Marangoni, in January 2014, is opening its new school of
design, located in via Cerva, in the design district of Milan, providing
the best possible undergraduate and postgraduate training in the areas
of interior design, industrial design and visual design.
Students will find the tools to interpret and lead trends, through
curricula that are constantly updated. In addition, they will have a
materials library for interior and product design, laboratory for light
modeling, an extensive library, computer rooms with Mac, open workspaces
and a cozy cafΓ©; a place to meet and exchange ideas.
istituto marangoni and cappellini: together for design.
Cappellini has always been an attentive observer of the development of
design trends and has been comparing since several years its own Company
philosophy with young students and designers with a different and
varying cultural background.
Milan represents, also in this particular historical moment, an
extraordinary point of confluence of the most interesting new tendencies
in the Industrial Design field coming from all over the world.
Therefore, with great pleasure, Giulio Cappellini together with the
Company’s Creative Team have decided to participate in the development
of the new Design School of Istituto Marangoni, a special project which
connects Milan’s industrial culture and the formative activities of the
city.
