*Buddha gained a huge amount of fame during his lifetime for simply offering basic advice for everyday living.
Far removed from the priests that believed they were “chosen”, Buddha was accessible to anyone who lived nearby.
Peasants, government officials, and kings were all treated with the same amount of respect and advice.
To him, there was no difference between them.
That’s why when we read Buddha’s words, we’re actually getting his
unfiltered view of what he thought about happiness, simple living, and
finding peace.
Here are 10 quotes from him that will change your perspective on life- and show you a new way of thinking and being.

5 Ways Buddha Taught To Maintain A Happy Life | Meditation In Daily Life
*Why the Buddha Kept Meditating
For those who are wondering what the fuss is all about regarding
meditation, note that happiness is transient, just like everything in
this life. To extend it, you need to feed and nourish your happiness,
as it cannot survive without food. This is called conditioning and it is
of utmost importance! We can do it with the 5 practices of letting go,
mindfulness, concentration, insight, and inviting positive seeds.
1. LETTING GO
Letting go is the first step towards creating and conditioning
happiness. We are all bound to something, believing that it is
necessary for our security and happiness. However, most of these
things are actually obstacles for our happiness.
For instance, you
might think that having a salary, house, or a partner is vital for your
happiness. But, you continue to suffer even when you achieve these
things. You fear of losing them and eventually become addicted.
If
you think about it, you will realize that this attachment is your
obstacle to happiness. Once you summon the courage and let it go,
happiness will come very quickly.
2. MINDFULNESS-BASED JOY
Mindfulness allows us to experience the wonders of life! Breathing turns
into a delight and you come to enjoy it. When practicing mindful
breathing, we are established in the present and feel so lucky for the
things we have already available. Mindfulness is a source of happiness
as it helps us touch the conditions of happiness which are present
currently.
3.CONCENTRATION
Concentration is a result of
mindfulness. It has the power to burn away the things that make us
suffer and let happiness step in.
Concentration is necessary if you
want to stay in the present moment. The worries about the future are
always present, but concentration helps us go back to the present
moment. Staying concentrated means having a lot of energy to remain
stable in the present and achieve true happiness and joy.
4. INSIGHT
Mindfulness allows us to recognize the tension and pressure we are
faced with, while insight helps us liberate from it. Insight is pretty
much like a clarity which allows us to release the pressure and get rid f
the afflictions like anger and jealousy. Hence, it allows happiness to
come!
For instance, we have all suffered in the past for one thing
or another. If we do remember it, we can take use of it to remind
ourselves that we are no longer in that situation and that we can be
happy after all! This is insight, which allows happiness and joy to
grow.
5.INVITING POSITIVE SEEDS
We all have seeds lying in
our consciousness, and those we nourish are the ones which manifest
outwardly. We are able to be understating, joyful and compassionate, but
paying attention to negativity and inviting negative seeds only
produces negative feelings and kills off positive nourishment.
We
are capable of selectively watering the positive seeds and refrain from
nourishing the negative ones. This doesn’t mean that we are ignoring
our sorrow thought, but that we allow positivity to prosper.

Many lakhs pour into Lucknow for BSP rally
The launch of a dozen projects named after Kanshi Ram - with an allocation of nearly Rs.250 billion - will be the highlight of the mega event that has seen the city being coloured a virtual blue with buntings, hoardings and posters. Blue is the colour of the BSP party flag.
Normal life came to a standstill with educational institutions declaring a holiday and commercial establishments staying closed.
All roads seemed to converge at the new 50-acre rally venue, about 10 km from town, where Mayawati proposes to fly down in a helicopter from the governor’s house.
Party sources said Tuesday morning that one million people had already arrived and crowds were still pouring in.
Commuters were being greatly inconvenienced with the roads crammed with BSP workers. The area in and around the railway station was declared a traffic free zone for the day and passengers could be seen carrying their luggage on their heads.
While BSP has officially hired only six special trains to carry their workers, railway officials were apprehensive that many more would arrive.
As many as 11,000 cops and security personnel have been detailed to ensure that nothing goes wrong while as many as 10,000 buses and 4,000 trucks have been reportedly pressed into service.

The ‘reincarnation’ of Kanshi Ram colours Lucknow blue
Lucknow: His followers cast him as a Mahatma, slogans deify him and his death anniversary is being observed as reincarnation day with a holiday declared in the entire state… The Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh is pulling out all the stops to ensure Kanshi Ram is venerated as a demigod a year after his death.
Chief Minister Mayawati is personally supervising every detail of the day Tuesday in her effort to cast the founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in a new mould - a larger than life Dalit icon next only to B.R. Ambedkar.
If Ambedkar was known to all as Babsaheb, the late Kanshi Ram is being sought to be called ‘manyavar’, or the honourable, by his protégé.
“Manyavar ka sapna adhura, karegi Behen Mayawati poora” (the honourable’s unfulfilled dream will be fulfilled by Sister Mayawati) and “Samuche desh ke sarvjan; karte hain aapka naman’ (people of all castes across the country pay homage to you)” are only some of the slogans inscribed all over the city as Mayawati sends out her message loud and clear.
It is not just the loud publicity - thousands of hoardings, banners, buntings, arches and party flags that have virtually painted the city in BSP’s blue - and the fact that Tuesday has been declared a public holiday; the day is being described as ‘punar-nirvarna’ (reincarnation) - apparently in the same league as Lord Buddha and the like.
Even preparations for the rally, titled ‘Savdhan raho; aage barho’ (Be alert and march ahead) far surpass that of any political rally in living memory. The expected crowd of about 1.5 million will arrive here in special trains, about 1,000 buses and trucks from each of the 70 districts of the state.
Right from creating an entirely new venue - a 55-acre ground named after Ambedkar’s wife Rama Bai about 10 km away from downtown
Several schemes - all in the name of Kanshi Ram - are to be launched by Mayawati. These include an Rs.150 billion Integrated Urban Development Programme for all major cities of the state and a sprawling Rs.10 million memorial as a tribute to her political mentor.
A giant statue of Kanshi Ram will adorn the memorial whose construction is underway, informed sources said. Kanshi Ram’s statue was installed in what is called Prerna Bhavan (Inspiration House) here even before his death on Oct 9 last year. Later, an urn containing his ashes was placed in the same building that looks like a ’stupa’.
Mayawati stressed at a press conference Sunday that “the government had nothing to do with the rally and that it was a purely party affair”. But the manner in which the entire official machinery has been on its toes, with each minister and top official assigned specific jobs, for the past four weeks belies her claim.
As many as 200 temporary toilets have been made in and around the sprawling venue, where 75 ambulances would be pressed into service. Ten makeshift hospitals have been created not only around the venue but also at all entry and exit points to the state capital.
To provide smooth passage to BSP supporters, the administration has pulled down some shops and commercial establishments along the route.
Mayawati remembers Kanshi Ram - but doesn’t forget elections
The city was coloured blue, the late Original Inhabitant of The Great Prabuddha Bharath leader was hailed as ‘manyavar’, or the honourable, and Mayawati took the opportunity to launch 13 projects named after him with an allocation of Rs.250 billion. These ranged from a Manyawar Shri Kanshi Ram Ji Museum, a Manyawar Shri Kanshi Ram Ji Memorial Upvan (Garden), a hospital and even a ‘Yaadgaar’ guesthouse in
Enthused by the massive gathering that descended on the sprawling 50-acre newly created Rama Bai Ambedkar grounds on the outskirts of the city, Mayawati sought to emphasise how she would transform everybody’s life if her party were to form India’s national government.
The crowds cheered each time their ‘Behenji’ talked about taking the unfulfilled dream of party founder Kanshi Ram to its logical conclusion - establishing BSP rule in New Delhi.
With an eye on the seat of power in
“I feel that the Congress party should have taken all political parties into confidence before signing the nuclear deal,” she said.
Terming the differences within the UPA over the nuclear deal and the controversy over Ram Sethu as factors that could propel the nation into an early Lok Sabha poll, Mayawati urged her party workers to be ready for elections in the near future.
“Shortly after assuming power in Uttar Pradesh where BSP formed its government with a clear majority in May, I met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and drew his attention to certain vital issues like the need for reservations to the poor among the upper castes, introduction of reservation in the private sector. But I have yet to receive any response from his office.”
“Never mind, once we have our own government at the centre, we will introduce all this,” she assured the crowd.
Mayawati blamed the UPA for shortage of funds: “We are unable to ensure proper development of Uttar Pradesh simply because of shortage of funds. Our demand for a special economic package for the state is also gathering dust in the office of the prime minister.”
Be it shortage of power, the state’s indebtedness to the World Bank, poor performance of the sugar industry or fighting unemployment, the BSP chief put all the blame on the UPA government.
She labelled the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) a “sham and an eyewash”. “Once we form our government at the centre, we will do away with such half-baked schemes. Instead I will ensure permanent employment to the vast majority of the unemployed.”
Referring to her government’s decision to dismiss 17,000 of the 22,000 cops during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime, Mayawati said she felt sorry for those who lost their jobs.
“But I was constrained to do so because of the gross irregularities in the recruitment,” she said, adding hastily, “I would like to assure all of them that we would consider their case when we open fresh recruitments.”
The chief minister also wanted to soften the blow about retrenching 13,000 Urdu teachers. “That was not my government’s decision; we had to do so only in pursuance of a high court order.”
While the party focussed all its attention on the grand show here, in

Poverty, unemployment
The Chief Minister said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) was not a permanent solution to the problems of poverty and unemployment. On coming to power at the Centre, the BSP would create sources of permanent employment, she added.
On lack of adequate funds with the State government, Ms. Mayawati regretted that notwithstanding her meeting the Prime Minister, the special economic package of Rs. 80,000 crore had not been released by the Centre.
The Chief Minister blamed the Samajwadi Party regime for all the ills plaguing the State — from power crisis, sugarcane arrears to resource crunch.
In her 100-minute address, the Chief Minister invoked her mentor’s name several times. Ms. Mayawati criticised the UPA government and the SP regime for not declaring official mourning during Kanshi Ram’s death in 2006.
The Chief Minister defended her move to launch several schemes named after Kanshi Ram and said she was only carrying forward his political legacy.
‘Replicate example’
BSP General Secretary Satish Chandra Misra expressed gratitude to the Brahmins for enabling the BSP to get absolute majority.
The time had come to replicate the example at the Centre and the formation of the BSP government would be the best tribute to Kanshi Ram, he added.

Sympathising with the sacked recruits and suspended police officers, the Chief Minister said efforts would be made to re-employ those eligible when fresh recruitments were made.

Ms. Mayawati’s reaction comes a day after reports said the sacked policemen were coming together in Etah, Agra, Aligarh and Allahabad.Simultaneously, the Chief Minister described the ban on student union elections as a temporary measure and said they would be held once rules were formulated for keeping criminal elements out of the poll process.
Interestingly, the Chief Minister expressed her party’s support for the creation of smaller States. She said that if the Centre agreed to carve out Bundelkhand, Purvanchal and Harit Pradesh from Uttar Pradesh, the BSP government would send it a Vidhan Sabha resolution on the issue.
She said the value added tax would soon be implemented in Uttar Pradesh.
Accusing the Opposition parties of launching a malicious campaign against the BSP, the Chief Minister said attempts were being made to target senior Minister Satish Chandra Misra.
She cautioned her partymen against the designs of the Opposition to weaken the BSP support base and warned her supporters not to be misguided by Opposition-sponsored media reports.
Ms. Mayawati defended helping her brother Anand Kumar.
Since he had left his job to assist her, she had given him money to start a business from the money gifted to her by the BSP cadres.
Ms. Mayawati said she would take political sanyas if the charge that she bought government bungalows were proved.
