Tipitaka (Tripitaka in Sanskrit) is the name given to the Buddhist
sacred scriptures and is made up of two words; ti meaning ‘three’ and
pitaka meaning ‘basket.’ The word basket was given to these writings
because they were orally transmitted for some centuries (from about 483
BCE), the way a basket of earth at a construction site might be relayed
from the head of one worker to another. It was written on palm leaves in
the Pali language around 100 BCE. The three parts of the Tipitaka are
the Sutta Pitaka, the Vinaya Pitaka and the Abhidhamma Pitaka. The Tipitaka was composed in the Pali
language and takes up more than forty volumes in an English
translation, roughly about 20,000 pages. It is the largest sacred book
of any of the great world religions.
It is also known as the Pali Canon since the language is in Pali and to better differentiate it from the Mahayana Tripitaka (only one letter difference).

A. Mahavagga
in addition to rules of conduct and etiquette for the Sangha, this
section contains several important sutta-like texts, including an
account of the period immediately following the Buddha’s Awakening, his
first sermons to the group of five monks, and stories of how some of his
great disciples joined the Sangha and themselves attained Awakening.
B. Cullavagga
an elaboration of the bhikkhus’ etiquette and duties, as well as the
rules and procedures for addressing offences that may be committed
within the Sangha.
This website is dedicated to those who wish to understand better the
words of the Buddha by learning the basics of Pali language, but who
don’t have much time available for it. The idea is that if their purpose
is merely to get enabled to read the Pali texts and have a fair feeling
of understanding them, even if that understanding does not cover all
the minute details of grammatical rules, they don’t really need to spend
much time struggling with a discouraging learning of tedious
grammatical theory involving such things as numerous declensions and
conjugations.
In that case, it is enough to
limit themselves to simply learn the meaning of the most important Pali
words, because the repeated experience of reading provides an empirical
and intuitive understanding of the most common sentence structures.
They are thus enabled to become autodidacts, choosing the time,
duration, frequency, contents and depth of their own study.
Their understanding of the
Buddha Vacana will become much more precise as they effortlessly learn
and memorize the words and the important formulae that are fundamental
in the Buddha’s teaching, by ways of regular reading. Their learning and
the inspiration they get from it will grow deeper as their receptivity
to the messages of the Teacher will improve.

ይህ ድረ ገጽ የፓሊያን ቋንቋን በመማር የቡድኑን ቃላቶች ለመረዳት ለሚፈልጉ ሁሉ ነገር ግን ለዚያ ጊዜ ብዙ ጊዜ
የሌላቸው ናቸው. ይህ ሀሳብ የሱዲን ጥቅሶችን ለማንበብና ተገቢውን የመረዳት ስሜት ቢኖረውም እንኳን, ይህ ግንዛቤ
ሁሉንም ሰዋሰዋዊ ደንቦች ዝርዝር ባያጠቃልልም, ብዙውን ጊዜ ብዙ ገንዘብ ማውጣት አያስፈልጋቸውም. የበርካታ
ሰዋሰዋዊ ፅንሰ-ሀሳቦችን, እንደ ብዙ ዘይቤዎችን እና ትውፊቶችን የመሳሰሉ ውስብስብ ትምህርቶችን ከማበረታታት ጋር
ለመተባበር ይታገላል.
እንደዚያ ከሆነ በጣም አስፈላጊ የሆነውን የዊሊን ቃላት ትርጉም በቀላሉ መማር ብቻ
በቂ ነው, ምክንያቱም ተደጋግሞ የማንበብ ተሞክሮ በጣም የተለመዱ የአረፍተ-ነገሮች አወቃቀሮች ላይ ተጨባጭ እና
ገላጭ የሆነ ግንዛቤ ስለሚያገኝ ነው. በዚህ መንገድ የራሳቸውን ጥናት, ጊዜ, ድግግሞሽ, ይዘትና ጥልቀት በመምረጥ
የራሳቸውን በራስ መተማመን ያደርጉላቸዋል.
የቡድሃ ሻካራ ግንዛቤያቸውን የበለጠ በሚቀጥለው መንገድ
በትክክል ይተረጉማሉ, ምክንያቱም የቡዳሂምን አስተምህሮ, በቋሚነት በማንበብ ውስጥ የሚገኙትን ቃላቶችና ጠቃሚ የሆኑ
ቀመሮችን በቃላቸው ይማራሉ. አስተማሪው በመልእክቱ እንዲሻሻሉ ስለሚረዱ ከእነርሱ የመማር እና የእነሱ አነሳሽነት
የበለጠ ጥልቀት ይኖረዋል.
ወደፊት በሚመጣው ጊዜ, የቲታካታ ቃላት, ጥልቀት, ትርጉም ያለው, ከኣለም
ባሻገር የሚመጡትን ንግግሮች የማይሰማ እና የማይታገሱ (የተንቆጠቆጡ) ናቸው, እነሱ አይሰሙም, እነሱ ግን
አይሰሙም. አዕምሮአቸውን በእውቀት ላይ አይተገብራቸውም, እነዚያን ትምህርቶች እንዲወሰዱ እና እንዲለማመዱ
አይመለከቷቸውም.
በተቃራኒው, እነዚህ ባለቅኔዎች ገጣሚዎች, ትልልቅ ቃላቶች, የጠለቀ ደብዳቤዎች, ከውጭ
ሰዎች ወይም ደግሞ የደቀመዛሙርት ቃላቶች የሚናገሩትን ንግግሮች ሲያዳምጡ ያዳምጣሉ, እነሱ አዕምሮአቸውን በእውቀት
ላይ ተግባራዊ ያደርጋሉ , እነዚያን ትምህርቶች እንዲይዙ እና የተካኑ እንዲሆኑ ይማራሉ.
ስለዚህም, ባንኩዎች, የቲታካታ ቃላት, ጥልቀት ያለው, ትርጉም ያለው, ከዓለማዊው በላይ የሆነ (ከቋሚነት) ጋር ባዶነት የተያያዘው ንግግሮች ይጠፋሉ.
ስሇዚህ ባክቲካዎች (እንዱህ) ሉያጠኑ ያህሌ እንዱህ ያዴርጉ (እያሰቃዩ ነው): ‘እነዘህ የቲታካታ ቃሊት
ንግግሮች, ጥሌቅ, ትርጉም ካሇው, ከዓሇም ውጭ እንዱራመደ, (ከቋሚነት) ጋር ያህሌን ባዶነት ጋር ያያይዙታሌ,
በእውቀት ላይ አዕምሮአችንን ተግባራዊ ያደርጋል, እነዚያን ትምህርቶች እንዲወሰዱ እና የተካኑ እንደሆኑ
እንመለከታለን. ‘ ብቸም, እራሳችሁን ማሰልጠን አለባችሁ.
