anxiety, depression, insecurity, fear of old age and death.”

How Did the Buddha Meditate?


Here’s an interesting question: how did the Buddha himself meditate?
Did he meditate the same before and after awakenment with awareness ?
Did he even bother to meditate after his awakenment with awareness? It
turns out to be not much a mystery at all. We pretty much know, and most
of the story is given near the beginning of the SN 54.


Concentration by mindfulness of breathing, when developed and
cultivated, is of great fruit and benefit…I too, monks, before my
awakenment with awareness, while I was still a bodhisatta, not yet fully
awakened with awareness, generally dwelt in this dwelling. While I
generally dwelt in this dwelling, neither my body nor my eyes became
fatigued and my mind, by not clinging, was liberated from the taints.
Therefore, monks, if a monk wishes: “May neither my body nor my eyes
become fatigued and may my mind, by not clinging, be liberated from the
taints,” this same concentration by mindfulness of breathing should be
closely attended to.

So the Buddha’s practice before his awakenment with awareness was to
hone his concentration (that is to say jhana practice) through
mindfulness of breathing. What about after his awakenment with
awareness?

At some point long after his awakenment with awareness
when the sangha was firmly in place, he informed his monks that he
would be spending his Vassa (rains retreat) completely alone in solitary
meditation. He didn’t want to see anyone except people bringing him
alms food. I imagine it as sort of a sabbatical to recharge his energy
for the next seasons teaching. So what did he do for those 3 months? Did
he use psychic powers to zip around the universe checking out planets?
(Note: this would be high on my list.) Here’s what he said: “If
followers of other teachers ask how I spent my rains retreat, just tell
them he mostly spent his rains retreat in the concentration that comes
from mindfulness of breathing.” (SN 54.2.1)

Before awakenment
with awareness, concentration practice through mindfulness of breathing,
after awakenment with awareness concentration practice through
mindfulness of breathing. As they say, if it’s good enough for the

Sumagot siya ng “WALA”! Gayunpaman hayaan mong sabihin sa akin kung ano ang nawala ko: galit,
pagkabalisa, pagkalungkot, kawalan ng kapanatagan, takot sa pagtanda at kamatayan. “

Paano Namalayan ng Buddha ang Buddha?

Narito
ang isang kagiliw-giliw na tanong: paano mismong nagmuni-muni ang
Buddha? Nagmuni-muni ba siya nang pareho bago at pagkatapos ng paggising
sa kamalayan? Naistorbo ba niya na magnilay pagkatapos ng kanyang
paggising sa kamalayan? Ito ay lumiliko na hindi gaanong misteryo.
Marami kaming nalalaman, at ang karamihan sa mga kuwento ay ibinigay
malapit sa simula ng SN 54.

Ang konsentrasyon sa pamamagitan ng
pag-iisip ng paghinga, kapag binuo at linangin, ay mahusay na prutas at

Kaya

jhana) sa pamamagitan ng pag-iisip ng paghinga. Kumusta naman ang
pagkagising niya sa kamalayan?

Sa ilang sandali matapos ang
kanyang paggising na may kamalayan kapag ang sangha ay matatag sa lugar,
ipinagbigay-alam niya sa kanyang mga monghe na gugugol niya ang kanyang
Vassa (pag-ulan na pag-urong) na ganap na nag-iisa sa pag-iisa. Ayaw
niyang makita ang sinuman maliban sa mga taong nagdadala sa kanya ng
limos na pagkain. Iniisip ko ito bilang uri ng isang sabbatical upang
muling magkamit ng kanyang enerhiya para sa susunod na mga pagtuturo ng
panahon. Kaya ano ang ginawa niya sa mga 3 buwan na iyon? Gumamit ba
siya ng mga sikolohikal na kapangyarihan upang mag-zip sa paligid ng
uniberso na suriin ang mga planeta? (Tandaan: ito ay magiging mataas sa
aking listahan.) Narito ang sinabi niya: “Kung ang mga tagasunod ng iba
pang mga guro ay nagtanong kung paano ko ginugol ang aking pag-urong ng
ulan, sabihin lamang sa kanila na karamihan ay ginugol niya ang kanyang

Bago ang paggising na may kamalayan,
pagsasanay sa konsentrasyon sa pamamagitan ng pag-iisip ng paghinga,
pagkatapos ng paggising na may kasanayan sa konsentrasyon ng kamalayan
sa pamamagitan ng pag-iisip ng paghinga. Tulad ng sinasabi nila, kung
sapat na ito para sa Buddha …

Kuinka Buddha mietiskeli?


Tässä on mielenkiintoinen kysymys: kuinka itse Buddha meditoi?

anxiété, dépression, insécurité, peur de la vieillesse et de la mort. “

Comment le Bouddha a-t-il médité?

Voici
une question intéressante: comment le Bouddha lui-même a-t-il médité?
At-il médité la même chose avant et après le réveil avec conscience?
At-il même pris la peine de méditer après son réveil avec conscience?
Cela ne s’avère pas du tout un mystère. Nous le savons assez bien, et
l’essentiel de l’histoire est relaté vers le début du SN 54.

La
concentration en pleine conscience de la respiration, lorsqu’elle est
développée et cultivée, est un fruit et un bénéfice précieux… Moi aussi,
les moines, avant mon éveil éveillé, alors que j’étais encore un
bodhisatta, pas encore pleinement éveillé avec conscience, habitais
généralement dans cette demeure. Pendant que j’habitais généralement
dans cette demeure, ni mon corps ni mes yeux ne sont devenus fatigués et
mon esprit, en ne m’accrochant pas, a été libéré des souillures. Par
conséquent, les moines, si un moine le souhaite: «Que mon corps et mes
yeux ne deviennent pas fatigués et que mon esprit, en ne m’accrochant
pas, soit libéré des souillures», il convient de surveiller de près
cette même concentration en étant attentif à la respiration.

Ainsi,
la pratique du Bouddha avant son réveil avec conscience consistait à
affiner sa concentration (c’est-à-dire la pratique du jhana) en faisant
attention à la respiration. Qu’en est-il après son réveil avec
conscience?

Longtemps
après son réveil conscient lorsque la sangha était fermement en place,
il informa ses moines qu’il passerait son Vassa (retraite des pluies)
complètement seul dans une méditation solitaire. Il ne voulait voir
personne sauf des gens qui lui apportaient de la nourriture d’aumône. Je

Como meditou Buda?


Aquí hai unha pregunta interesante: como meditou o propio Buda?
Meditaba o mesmo antes e despois do espertar con conciencia? ¿Incluso se
molestou en meditar despois do seu espertar con conciencia? Resulta que
non é moito un misterio en absoluto. Case sabemos, e a maior parte da
historia dáse preto do comezo do SN 54.

A concentración ao
respirar, cando está desenvolvida e cultivada, é de moita froita e
beneficio … Eu tamén, monxes, antes do meu espertar con conciencia,
mentres aínda era un bodhisatta, aínda non espertado con conciencia,
moraba normalmente nesta morada. Mentres habitaba xeralmente nesta
morada, nin o meu corpo nin os ollos se cansaron e a miña mente, ao non

Así que a práctica de Buda antes do seu espertar con conciencia foi
mellorar a súa concentración (é dicir a práctica de jhana) a través da

Wie meditierte der Buddha?


Hier ist eine interessante Frage: Wie hat der Buddha selbst meditiert?
Hat er vor und nach dem Erwachen das gleiche mit Bewusstsein meditiert?
Hat er sich überhaupt die Mühe gemacht, nach seinem Erwachen bewusst zu
meditieren? Es stellt sich heraus, dass es überhaupt kein großes Rätsel
ist. Wir wissen ziemlich genau, und der größte Teil der Geschichte wird
am Anfang des SN 54 erzählt.

Konzentration durch Achtsamkeit des
Atmens, wenn sie entwickelt und kultiviert wird, ist von großer Frucht
und von großem Nutzen … Auch ich, Mönche, habe vor meinem Erwachen mit
Bewusstsein, als ich noch ein Bodhisatta war, noch nicht vollständig
mit Bewusstsein erwacht, im Allgemeinen in dieser Wohnung gewohnt.
Während ich im Allgemeinen in dieser Wohnung wohnte, wurden weder mein
Körper noch meine Augen müde und mein Verstand wurde durch das
Nichtklammern von den Verschmutzungen befreit. Deshalb, Mönche, wenn ein
Mönch wünscht: “Darf weder mein Körper noch meine Augen ermüden und
mein Geist, indem er sich nicht festhält, von den Verschmutzungen
befreit werden”, sollte dieselbe Konzentration durch Achtsamkeit des
Atmens genau beachtet werden.

Daher bestand die Praxis des Buddha vor seinem Erwachen mit Bewusstsein

εντελώς μόνος στο μοναχικό διαλογισμό. Δεν ήθελε να δει κανέναν εκτός
από ανθρώπους που του έφερναν φαγητό. Φαντάζομαι ότι είναι σαν ένα
σαββατικό για να επαναφορτίσει την ενέργειά του για τη διδασκαλία των
επόμενων εποχών. Τι έκανε για αυτούς τους 3 μήνες; Χρησιμοποίησε ψυχικές
δυνάμεις για να φερθεί γύρω από το σύμπαν ελέγχοντας τους πλανήτες;

containing 737,000 stanzas, and 29,368,000 separate letters.
