தங்கள் பக்தியினைத் தெரிவிக்கவும், தங்கள் (நிர்வாண மோட்சம் அடையும்) நோக்கத்தினை உறுதிப்படுத்தவும், புத்தரின் நற்பண்பினை நினைவு படுத்தவும், இதனால் தங்கள் பயிற்சி செய்யும் தீர்மானம் வளரவும் புத்த மதத்தைப் பின்பற்றுவோர் இதனைத் தினசரி சொல்வார்கள்.
புத்தரைக் குறிப்பிட வழக்கமாகக் கூறப்படும் விகடப் பெயர்கள் இவை. இந்த மூன்றில் (பகவந், அறஹந், சம்மா சம்புத்தா) இரண்டு புத்தரை மட்டுமே குறிக்கும்.
பகவந் என்ற சொல் கடவுளையும், மிகவும் போற்றக்கூடியவரையும் மட்டுமே குறிக்கும் பெயர். பௌத்த மதத்தில் புத்தர் தானே தலை சிறந்த வணக்கத்துக்குரியவர்? எனவே, இப்பெயர் அவருக்குப் பொருந்தும்.
சம்மா சம்புத்தா என்பதும் புத்தருக்கு மட்டுமே பொருந்தும். அவர் மட்டும் தான் சரியாகவும் முழுமையாகவும் விழிப்புற்றார். மேலும் வேறு யாரும் அவரைப்போலத் தர்மத்தைக் கற்பிக்க முடியாது. யாருக்கு எப்படிக் கற்பிக்க வேண்டும் என்று அவருக்கு மட்டுமே தெரியும். மேலும் சம்மா சம்புத்தா சுய முயற்சியில் விழிப்புற்றார். அவருக்கு ஆசிரியர் இல்லை. அவர் உலகத்திற்குக் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தார். அவர் சீடர்களும் நிர்வாண மோட்சம் அடைய முடியும் (அந்த அனுபவத்தில் சீடர்களின் மோட்சத்திற்கும் சம்மா சம்புத்தரின் மோட்சத்திற்கும் எந்த வித்தியாசமும் இல்லை). ஆனால் சம்மா சம்புத்தரின் போதனைகளைக் கேட்ட பின் தான் சீடர்கள் மோட்சம் அடைய முடியும்.
அறஹந் என்பது நிர்வாண மோட்சம் அடைந்த அனைவரையும் குறிக்கும். அது சம்மா சம்புத்தாவாகவும் இருக்கலாம் அவரின் சீடராகவும் இருக்கலாம்.
