HOW TO MAKE ARTIFICIAL SNOW : 3 QUICK & EASY ECO-FRIENDLY ‘RECIPES’

LET IT SNOW. LET IT SNOW. LET IT SNOW!

No snow on Christmas? Oh that can’t be…!

I have an exciting tutorial here for you that will make your Christmas wish come true… yes, you can have snow for Christmas!

Want to know how to make Artificial Snow?

Here are 3 eco-friendly DIY recipes to make artificial snow in less than 3 minutes from ingredients you already have at home:

1 ARTIFICIAL SNOW FROM PAPER TOWELS

Ingredients : about 10 sheets of damp paper towel sheets
Directions : mix in a food processor until small little pieces form

2 ARTIFICIAL SNOW FROM SEA SALT

Ingredients : coarse sea salt
Directions : sprinkle anywhere you wish
food safe and actually edible – great for tabletop displays where it touches food

#3 ARTIFICIAL SNOW FROM BAKING SODA (BAKING SODA SNOW)

Ingredients : 1 cup of baking soda
Directions
: add to a bowl, and drop in 1 tablespoon of water at a time, mix well
with a fork. Continue adding one tablespoon of water at a time, mixing
in between until a ‘snow’ consistency forms.

My personal
favourite recipe(s) was to actually combine the Artificial Snow from
Paper Towels with the Baking Soda Snow – together it was just the
perfect fluffiness on top with close-to-real small particles of snow all
around ;) The Sea Salt Snow could also work well… but I am personally
not a fan of using food (good food) as a decoration. (it’s kind of like
throwing food away). But I suppose this is still a lot better than using
artificial plastic that is definitely NOT eco-friendly and will just
sit in the landfill with its toxins.

Now you can fully enjoy the holidays with some fun snow around!
The kids will be thrilled! (mine totally was ;) ) Actually it was the little one who’s idea it was to make our own snow.

After
popping into a few stores last week to pick up some artificial snow –
we were devastated to hear that it was all sold out! We’ve had this cute
DIY project in mind and just needed snow desperately…
With all our
supplies already out… I had to explain to Miss G that we just won’t get
snow in time… “Oh no….” (she said with those sad cute eyes) (but just
then her little eyes lit up!) “But mom…. I know…. WE CAN MAKE OUR OWN
SNOW!”

And just then, the very creative and determined little one
ran off…. and came back just a minute later holding two squares of
toilet paper! Ha! She excitedly started tearing it into tiniest little
shreds! “Wow.. you’re onto something here!” I smiled ;) She really was! I
loved how creative and inventive she got! Didn’t take No for an answer
and proceeded to CREATE HER OWN SNOW!

I then plugged in the food processor and took her idea into mass production! ;)

Well…
that ladies and gentlemen is how the best ideas form – and it may be
just paper snow to you! But it’s the most wonderful creative and
inventive snow I’ve ever seen ;)
We then had some fun and
experimented with the other two items ~ she gave the final approval of
our closest-to-the-original-snow Snow!

And just why was this snow
so important to us… well so that we could finish off our own DIY
Anthropologie inspired Mason Jar Snow Globes of course! (my own tutorial
will have to come a little later ~ great for next Christmas!)

White Living Room Ideas to Decorate Your Family’s Favorite Space

There’s so much you can do!
If
you’re trying to create the cozy living room of your dreams and have
ruled out using white, you might want to think again. This list of
gorgeous spaces proves that a white living room can be the most inviting
place in your house. It also allows you to be freer with your
decorating, whether you’d like to incorporate antique finds, big prints,
or plush velvet sofas. Some of these ideas involve going all out, like
white painted floors or customizing fireplaces to pop against the bare
walls. Others require small touches, whether that’s by adorning your
walls in an array of bronze mirrors or offsetting the white with a
colorful area rug.

Even if you’re hoping to implement some rustic
living room ideas, this list is a great resource, since many rooms
incorporate rustic wood beams, floors, and other accents that look
beautiful against the white. Anyone can achieve these looks, even with
little ones running around! Check out all the different ways to create a
stunning white living room right here (and don’t miss our list of the
best living room paint colors).

The White Ranch
In
this California home, it’s all about scale. For example, hefty
wingbacks would overpower the room (and break up the visual flow in the
open space), but the high ceilings and abundance of white decor makes it
feel airy and big.

Eat your food, eat the plate too!

Vertex Enterprises working on plant-based edible plates and spoons

Hyderabad:
After finding success with compostable bags, city-based Vertex
Enterprises is now dabbling with the idea of making edible cutlery and
nursery bags, said its CEO Dr Raju S Gannavarapu.

“Plates and
spoons made of Styrofoam are difficult to disintegrate owing to their
light weight. We are looking to use pop-corn like material to make
cutlery that can be consumed. Eat your food eat your plate as well is
our adage,” he said.

There have been some edible spoons in the
market. However, the handling of the millet-based cutlery turned
difficult once they came in contact with water.

“We are making
edible plates using a water soluble material that is based on a Korean
technology. These can take heat upto 260 degree. These plates and spoons
can be consumed. Or if left in water, they will dissolve within 24
hours. The material can also be used to make snack containers. These can
convert into a soup when mixed with hot water. The covers can be made
in different flavours. Trial production is on and we will soon scale it
up,” he said.

Usecases

The same can also be used for making nursery bags which will get mixed with water and mud and aid in plant nourishment.

“We
are working on making biodegradable sanitary napkins. Samples are ready
and we will scale up the production,” said Gannavarapu.

Revenue model

The
company will support existing plastic units and new ones as well with
technology, raw material, machinery, funding and also marketing. We are
looking to work with about 1,000 enterpreneurs,” he said adding that it
will pay them on number of units made or on the volumes handled or adopt
other models.

Edible Utility Bowls
Edible
cutlery is a new concept where the cutlery can be eaten after consuming
the food or drink. For Eg. If soup is served in the edible soup bowl,
the bowl can be eaten after drinking the soup with edible spoon and
which is highly nutritious.
Edible, Savoury, Flavored Spoons
The
spoons are of various shapes and sizes like Dinner Spoon, Soup Spoon,
Ice cream Spoon and to introduce to the young children the value of
using edible cutlery, we have introduced Teddy Bear Spoons which is
suitable for tiny tots.
For meals use a plate made out of grains pulses etc

We
all know how much havoc plastic utensils can wreak on the environment,
which is why entrepreneur Narayana Peesapaty’s edible cutlery made of
biodegradable (and delicious) materials has got so many people excited. I
was just as mesmerized by Peesapaty’s idea as the rest of the
interwebs, and I wanted to see if I could make my own edible spoons,
knives and forks at home. Read on for my easy, 3-ingredient DIY recipe.

*You
could also get creative and add in your favorite herbs and spices so
that your cutlery complements the flavors of your meal.

TOOLS:

– rolling pin – small knife – scissors – lined baking sheet – foil or metal spoons

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

STEP 2:

Pour
your water into a medium-sized bowl and gradually add in your flour
until the mixture is so thick that you can no longer stir it.

STEP 3:

Transfer your doughball to a flour-dusted surface and knead it for 1 minute.

STEP 4:

Roll your dough out into a thin, 1/4″-thick sheet.

STEP 5:

Cut out your utensils using the methods I explain in the DIY video above.

STEP 6:

Place your utensils on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes or until they are golden brown.

STEP 7:

Let your edible utensils cool off for a few minutes, and then use them to get your eat on!

We hope you enjoyed this recipe, and that it makes you think twice about using plastic utensils from now on.
