2022 World Masters Games Now Accepting Registrations

The
Organizing Committee of the 2022 World Masters Games in Kansai, Japan
has announced that athlete registrations have re-opened as of May 13,
2021. The one year countdown has begun as the Games will be held from
May 13-29, 2022.

The
Organizing Committee has been hard at work to ensure the success of the
Games and is coordinating host municipalities, venues, co-organizers,
supporting organizations, competition committees, sponsors and other
related stakeholders.

Ambedkar
returned back to Buddhism in 1956. For two decades, he studied all
major religions to conclude Buddha and his teachings allowed reform.

Babasaheb
Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s religious conversion is often a topic of curiosity
and debate among people, who wonder why he chose Buddhism — or didn’t
choose Islam, Christianity or Sikhism — when he renounced Hinduism.
There are several myths or misconceptions associated with his choice.

Ambedkar
has answered this in an essay titled ‘Buddha and Future of His
Religion’, which was published in 1950 in the monthly magazine of
Kolkata’s Mahabodhi Society. In the essay, compares the personalities of
founders of four religions, which “have not only moved the world in the
past, but are still having a sway over the vast masses of people”. The
four are Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed and Krishna.

Buddha is human, not a self-declared God

Ambedkar
starts by stating that what separates Buddha from the rest of the other
is his self-abnegation. “All throughout the Bible, Jesus insist(s) that
he is the Son of God and that those who wish to enter the kingdom of
God will fail, if they do not recognise him as the Son of God. Mohammed
went a step further. Like Jesus he also claimed that he was the
messenger of God. But he further insisted that he was the last
messenger. Krishna went a step beyond both Jesus and Mohammed. He
refused to be satisfied with merely being the Son of the God or being
the messenger of God; he was not content even with being the last
messenger of God. He was not even satisfied with calling himself a God.
He claimed that he was ‘Parameswhar‘ or as his followers describe him
”Devadhideva,” God of Gods,” Ambedkar writes about them.

But
Buddha, he wrote, “never arrogated to himself any such status. He was
born as a son of man and was content to remain a common man and preached
his gospel as a common man. He never claimed any supernatural origin or
supernatural powers nor did he perform miracles to prove his
supernatural powers. The Buddha made a clear distinction between a
Margadata and a Mokshadata. Jesus, Mahommed and Krishna claimed for
themselves the Mokshadata. The Buddha was satisfied with playing the
role of a Margadata.”

Reason and experience, not blind faith

Ambedkar
compares the four religious teachers to find another distinction
between Buddha and the rest. He says that both Jesus and Mohammed
claimed that what they taught was the word of God and (thus) was beyond
question. Krishna was, according to his own assumption, a God of Gods
and therefore the question of infallibility did not even arise. The
Buddha claimed no such infallibility for what he taught. In the
Mahaparinibbana Sutta, he told Ananda that his followers should not
accept his teaching as correct and binding merely because they emanated
from Him. Being based on reason and experience, the followers were free
to modify or even to abandon any of his teachings if it was found that
at a given time and in given circumstances they do not apply.

“Buddha
wanted his religion to remain evergreen and serviceable at all times.
That is why he gave liberty to his followers to chip and chop as the
necessities of the case required. No other religious teacher has shown
such courage. They were afraid of permitting repair, because the liberty
to repair may be used to demolish the structure they had reared. Buddha
had no such fear. He was sure of his foundation. He knew that even the
most violent iconoclast will not be able to destroy the core of His
religion.”

Morality, not rituals

Comparing
Buddhism with Hinduism, Ambedkar writes, “Hinduism is a religion which
is not founded on morality. Morality is a separate force which is
sustained by social necessities and not by injunction of Hindu religion.
The religion of Buddha is morality. It is imbedded in religion. It is
true that in Buddhism there is no God. In place of God there is
morality. What God is to other religions, morality is to Buddhism.”

Ambedkar
then differentiates between ‘Dharma’ (Hinduism) and ‘Dhamma’
(Buddhism). “The Vedic meaning of the word ”Dharma” did not connote
morality in any sense of the word. The Dharma as enunciated by the
Brahmins meant nothing more than the performances of certain karmas or
observances, i.e. Yagans, Yagas and sacrifices to Gods. The word Dhamma,
as used by the Buddha, had nothing to do with ritual or observances. In
place of Karma, Buddha substituted morality as the essence of Dhamma.”

Gospel of Hinduism is inequality

Taking
his comparison of Hinduism and Buddhism further, Ambedkar writes about
the second point of difference thus: “The second point of contrast lies
in the fact that the official gospel of Hinduism is inequality. On the
other hand, Buddha stood for equality. He was the greatest opponent of
Chaturvarna, which is the parent of the caste system — apparently a
perpetual loss of life. He not only preached against it, fought against
it, but did everything to uproot it. According to Hinduism neither a
Shudra nor a woman could become a teacher of religion nor could they
take Sannyasa and reach God. Buddha on the other hand admitted Shudras
to the Bhikkhu Sangha He also admitted women to become Bhikkhunis.”

Ambedkar
says that as result of Buddha’s attack on the gospel of inequality,
“Hinduism had to make many changes in its doctrines. It gave up Himsa.
It was prepared to give up the doctrine of the infallibility of the
Vedas. On the point of the Chaturvarna, neither side was prepared to
yield. Buddha was not prepared to give up his opposition to the doctrine
of Chaturvarna. That is the reason why Brahmanism has so much more
hatred and antagonism against Buddhism than it has against Jainism.”

Renouncing Hinduism

By
asking one central question that Ambedkar believed “every religion must
answer”, he gives out the reason why Hindus might turn to Buddhism. He
asks what mental and moral relief does a religion bring to the
suppressed and the downtrodden? “Does Hinduism give any mental and
moral relief to the millions of Backward Classes and the Scheduled
Castes? It does not. Do Hindus expect these Backward Classes and the
Scheduled Castes to live under Hinduism which gives them no promise of
mental and moral relief? Such an expectation would be an utter futility.

“Hinduism
is floating on a volcano. Today it appears to be extinct. But it is
not. It will become active once these mighty millions have become
conscious of their degradation and know that it is largely due to the
social philosophy of the Hindu religion. One is reminded of the
overthrow of Paganism by Christianity in the Roman Empire. When the
masses realised that Paganism could give them no mental and moral
relief, they gave it up and adopted Christianity. What happened in Rome
is sure to happen in India. The Hindu masses when they are enlightened
are sure to turn to Buddhism.”

Ambedkar
had declared his decision to renounce Hinduism in 1936, in his
‘Annihilation of Caste’ speech. But he converted to Buddhism only in
1956. Ambedkar spent these two decades to study other prominent
religions and chose one he found to be the best among all. His quest for
a morally sound religion that looked at the welfare of every human
being took him to Buddhism. And that is how he and his followers
converted to Buddhism.

பழுதுபார்க்கும் சுதந்திரம் தாங்கள் வளர்த்து வந்த கட்டிடத்தை இடிக்கப்
பயன்படும் என்பதால், பழுதுபார்ப்பதற்கு அவர்கள் அனுமதிப்பார்கள் என்று
பயந்தனர். புத்தருக்கு அத்தகைய பயம் இல்லை. அவர் தனது அடித்தளத்தில்
உறுதியாக இருந்தார். அவரது மதத்தின் மையத்தை மிகவும் வன்முறையான

புத்தர் சமத்துவத்திற்காக நின்றார். அவர் சாதி அமைப்பின் பெற்றோரான
சதுர்வர்ணத்தின் மிகப்பெரிய எதிர்ப்பாளராக இருந்தார் - வெளிப்படையாக ஒரு

அடிபணியத் தயாராக இல்லை. புத்தர் சதுர்வர்ணக் கோட்பாட்டிற்கு எதிரான தனது
எதிர்ப்பைக் கைவிடத் தயாராக இல்லை. அதனால்தான் பிராமணியம் ஜைன மதத்தை விட
பௌத்தத்தின் மீது அதிக வெறுப்பும் வெறுப்பும் கொண்டுள்ளது.

இந்து மதத்தைத் துறத்தல்

“ஒவ்வொரு
மதமும் பதிலளிக்க வேண்டும்” என்று அம்பேத்கர் நம்பிய ஒரு மையக் கேள்வியைக்
கேட்பதன் மூலம், இந்துக்கள் ஏன் புத்த மதத்திற்கு மாறக்கூடும் என்பதற்கான
காரணத்தை அவர் கூறுகிறார். ஒடுக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கும்
தாழ்த்தப்பட்டவர்களுக்கும் ஒரு மதம் என்ன மன மற்றும் தார்மீக நிவாரணத்தை
அளிக்கிறது என்று அவர் கேட்கிறார். “இந்து மதம் கோடிக்கணக்கான
பிற்படுத்தப்பட்ட வகுப்பினர் மற்றும் பட்டியல் சாதியினருக்கு
மனரீதியாகவும், தார்மீக ரீதியாகவும் நிவாரணம் அளிக்கிறதா? அது இல்லை. இந்த
பின்தங்கிய வகுப்பினரும், பட்டியல் சாதியினரும் இந்து மதத்தின் கீழ் வாழ
வேண்டும் என்று இந்துக்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்களா? அத்தகைய எதிர்பார்ப்பு

“இந்து
மதம் ஒரு எரிமலையில் மிதக்கிறது. இன்று அது அழிந்துவிட்டதாகத்
தோன்றுகிறது. ஆனால் அது இல்லை. இந்த வலிமைமிக்க மில்லியன் கணக்கானவர்கள்
தங்கள் சீரழிவை உணர்ந்து, அது பெரும்பாலும் இந்து மதத்தின் சமூகத்
தத்துவத்தால் ஏற்பட்டது என்பதை அறிந்தவுடன் அது செயலில் இறங்கும்.
ரோமானியப் பேரரசில் கிறித்தவத்தால் புறமதத்தை வீழ்த்தியதை

அம்பேத்கர்

Lucknow : May 01, 2008 In a brief expansion, two new Cabinet Ministers were inducted into U.P. Cabinet today, while two Ministers of State (independent charge) were elevated to the Cabinet rank. In a simple function organised at Raj Bhawan, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Mr. T.V. Rajeswar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Fateh Bahadur Singh, Minister of State for Forests (independent charge) and Mr. Ram Het, Minister of State for Election (independent charge), besides Mr. Raj Pal Tyagi and Mr. Subhash Pandey as Cabinet Ministers on the recommendation of U.P. Chief Minister, Ms. Mayawati. The oath taking ceremony was conducted by the Cabinet Secretary Mr. Shashank Shekhar Singh. Lucknow : April 30, 2008 The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ms. Mayawati has requested the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to include Lonia, Nonia and Lonia-Chauhan castes in the list of scheduled castes. She has written a letter in this regard to the P.M. She has demanded that requisite amendments should be made in the Constitution, so that these castes could also be benefited and their socio-economic and educational levels could be elevated. She said that these castes were eligible for their inclusion in the SC list. In her letter, Ms. Mayawati said that even after the 60 years of independence, the socio-economic and educational condition of these castes had not improved so that they could be brought to the mainstream of the society and make their contribution. She said that these castes should be included in the SC list by adopting the necessary procedure. Besides, she has also requested that their number should also be considered while including them in the aforesaid list, so that the percentage of the quota of the SC could be increased in that proportion by amending the Constitution. This would ensure that there was no pruning in the current benefits of the SC and these castes also got the benefits. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati had requested the Prime Minister by writing a letter on March 4 last that 12 castes of the backward classes should be included in the SC list. These included, Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Mallah, Nishad, Kumhar, Prajapati, Dheewar, Bind, Bhar, Rajbhar, Dheemar, Batham, Turaha, Gond, Majhi and Machhua castes. The Chief Minister has requested an early action on the proposal send by the State Government. ******

Lucknow :April 30, 2008 In compliance of the directives given by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati during the law and order and development works review meeting held on April 24 last, the State Government has issued the necessary Government Order (G.O.) Through this G.O. effective implementation of development works and law and order would be ensured. According to the G.O. issued by the Chief Secretary Mr. Prashant Kumar Mishra, the Principal Secretaries/Secretaries, D.G.P., Divisional Commissioners and D.M.s have been given explicit orders that the policies and programmes of the government should be implemented effectively so that the needy could be benefited to a larger extent. There should be no slackness in registering F.I.R.s. Besides, there should be no laxity in the implementation of development works and maintenance of law and order, else the guilty would not be spared at any cost. According to the G.O., the officers should remain present between 10 a.m. and 12 noon in their respective offices barring holidays, so that the problems of the people could be disposed off at the earliest. Although these orders had been issued previously, but still the government was receiving complaints that it was not being strictly adhered to in some districts. According to the G.O. teams from the headquarters would be sent to conduct surprise checks and if any laxity in it was detected then stringent action would be initiated against the guilty. The G.O. further states that the officers of the police and administration should maintain better co-ordination to ensure peace arrangements in their areas. The S.O.s should not pressurise the aggrieved party to go for compromise, neither any action should be initiated against the same under sections 107, 116 and 151 of C.R.P.C. The complaints related to the exploitation of SC/ST should be investigated speedily and if the complaint is found correct, then only case should be registered under the SC/ST Act. Besides, review meetings regarding the terrorist activities should be compulsorily held at the district and divisional levels. The G.O. further states that the officers should accord proper respect to the people’s representatives. Besides, they should initiate strict action against the white collared criminals, mafias and notorious criminals under the Gangster Act. The officers have been asked to reach the incident site without delay if any untoward happening occurs in their respective district, and initiate proper action. Besides, the media should also be informed with real facts, so that the people get the real picture of the incident. In the Government Order, directives have also been issued for organising Thana Diwas every saturday, to redress the people’s complaints in every police station. During thana diwas, all the revenue employees of the revenue villages falling under the concerning police station, police inspector and sub-inspectors, employees of development and electricity departments will remain present compulsorily. Whether the Thana Diwas is being organised on scheduled time or not? The concerning Police Superintendent (rural) /A.S.P. will have to verify at least two police station areas. Besides, D.M./S.P. have been directed for checking at least one police station. For tackling the problem of naxalism, activities should be under taken regarding the economic, social and law and order aspect. It is the need of the hour that the poor people residing in naxal affected areas should join the mainstream of the society. Action in this regard is needed on priority basis. Full attention should be paid for providing maximum benefits of government facilities to the weaker sections of the society. Besides, pension, scholarships to SC/ST, backward, minorities and other eligible people should be provided timely. The Government Order further states that the remaining agricultural land in districts should be allotted to the eligible on priority basis. Besides, if some land is still available, then it should be distributed among the eligible persons. If strongmen have encroached upon the pattas given to the dalits and poor, then effective action should be taken for freeing the pattas from their possession. It should also be ensured that the poor people of Sarva Samaj benefit from the decisions of the government. The Chief Secretary has directed to ensure the availability of electricity without hindrance as per roster in the urban and rural areas. Special attention should be paid for effectively checking on power theft and also on drinking water, health, NAREGA and other welfare programmes. Incidents of theft, dacoity, murder, crimes and rape should be effectively controlled. Small incidents concerning with law and order and communalism should be taken seriously, so that they do not aggravate into a major incident in future. Special attention should be paid regarding the security of the statues of saints, gurus and great persons so that anti-social elements do not cause any harm to these. District Magistrate, Commissioner and the district and divisional level officers of other departments have been directed for making spot verification of development works. Similarly, the S.P. and S.S.P.s have been instructed to monitor the law and order situation in their area. Besides, 10 teams have been constituted for reviewing the police and administrative works of 18 divisions. All the divisional in-charge will visit their respective divisions till the 20th of every month without fail. The Government Order also directs the officers to discharge their duties honestly and with commitment, keeping in view the policy of Sarvajan Hitai, Sarvajan Sukhai so as to provide the people a development oriented system devoid of injustice, crime, fear and corruption. *********

Lucknow : April 30, 2008 The distribution of the application forms for the Haj pilgrims would begin from tomorrow (May 01, 2008). Now, the applicants would not be required to submit draft, instead they would have to deposit the necessary amount in the account of Central Haj Committee in the branches of the State Bank of India. The Hajis would be allowed to bring 10 litre cans with them this time. These decisions were taken at a meeting of the State Haj Committee held at the guest house of the PWD here today. The meeting was presided over by the State Public Works and Irrigation Minister and Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Nasimuddin Siddiqui. Keeping the district-wise population of the Muslims in mind, the Hajis would be selected on the basis of proportion. Besides, efforts were being made to provide information regarding the places of stay of the Hajis in the Saudi Arab through internet. The Hajis would get the information of their stay in India itself. The Chairman of the Haj Committee suggested that discussions should be held with the senior officers of the bank, so that separate counters for the Hajis could be set up in the branches of SBI. Expressing his dissatisfaction over the working of the Khadimul-Hujjaj, he said that the same should be given proper training, so that they could provide better services to the Hajis and they should also be kept under vigil in the Saudi Arab. The Minister of State for minorities welfare and Haj (Independent charge) Mr. Anees Ahmad Khan alias Phoolbabu expected from the employees and Khadimul-Hujjaj that they should discharge their duties with missionary zeal and and a feeling of service. He suggested the members and officers of Haj committee that they should remain present at Haj House and airport during the take-off of Hajis, so that the problems pertaining to Hajis coming in the way could be solved on the spot. The Minister for Science and Technology and the senior member of the Haj committee Mr. Abdul Mannan and another member Maulana Saif Abbas Naqvi suggested that the rates of food in hotels at Haj House Premises should be fixed during the Haj and rate boards should be fixed at all hotels compulsorily. Likewise, the rates for coolies carrying the belongings should also be fixed, so that the Haj travellers and their associates could not be exploited. The Secretary, State Haj Committee Mr. Laik Ahmad said that the action plan of U.P. State Haj Committee regarding the Haj was appreciated in the meeting of Central Haj Committee held few days ago and it was expected from the other States that they should also prepare their action plan on the same basis. It was decided in the meeting held today that a meeting of other states’ Haj Committee members should be organised to consider for providing the maximum facilities to the Hajis. In the meeting the income and expenditure of State Haj Committee for the year of 2007-08 was approved and the estimated income and expenditure for the year of 2008-09 was discussed. On this occasion, the senior member of State Haj Committee and Media Advisor to C.M. Mr. Zameel Akhtar, members Mr. Raees Ahmad, Hafiz Usman, Secretary State Haj Committee Mr. Laik Ahmad, Assistant Secretary Mr. Javed Ahmad and Haj Officer Mr. Tanveer Ahmad were present. *********
