2009 Indian General Election
The 15th Lok Sabha Election of India is scheduled to be held by themonth of May 2009. The maximum strength of Lok Sabha or the lower house
of the Indian Parliament is 552, comprising 530 members who represent
the States, up to 20 members who stand for the Union Territories and
not more than 2 members from the Anglo-Indian Community who are
nominated by the President.
The India Election 2009
will be contested on new constituency boundaries for the first time in
over 30 years and the change was implemented on the findings of the
Delimitation Commission.
Some of the major changes include merging of areas of various
constituencies to eradicate population inconsistencies between
different seats and reservation and de-reservation of seats. But, for
the time being, the Government of India has postponed delimitation in
the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Manipur and
Nagaland.

Uttar Pradesh power plant trespasser held, terror link suspected
Lucknow, Sep 14 (IANS) A youth who trespassed into the NationalThermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Unchahar plant in Rae Bareli district
has been arrested and is being interrogated by officials of the
intelligence department and the local police who do not rule out terror
links.The suspect, whose I-card mentioned his name as Aftab Ansari, was
nabbed Saturday evening by officials deployed for the plantβs security.
βWe have also recovered a list of mobile phone numbers from his
possession,β superintendent of police, Rae Bareli, Tarun Gaba told IANS.
βHis I-card mentioned that he was a member of the Muslim United
Front (MUF), Bhagalpur, Bihar, and a letterhead of the same
organisation was also recovered from him,β Gaba said.
βWe have contacted the police of Bhagalpur district and are awaiting further information,β Gaba added.
The police have not ruled out possibilities of his having terror
links and Ansari is being interrogated by officials of the intelligence
department besides the local police, he said.
βHe is changing his name quite often during interrogation and
revealed that he boarded a goods train entering the plant to trespass
inside the premises,β Gaba said.
High alert sounded in Uttar Pradesh following Delhi blasts
Lucknow, Sep 13 (IANS) A high alert was sounded Saturday by theUttar Pradesh government following six serial blasts in Delhi in which
at least nine people were killed and over 80 injured, a police official
said here.All the district superintendents of police have been directed
to beef up security in important markets, bus stations, railway
stations, shopping malls and other crowded places, said an official at
the director general of police office.
Special directives have been issued to step up security in religious
cities of the state, including Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura.
In Lucknow, the police have begin intensified checking at malls and markets in Gomti Nagar and Hazratganj area.
