Thanx 4 voting 4 Bahen Mayawati as UP CM!

Mayawati set to become PM- UP BSP

By chennaivision at 24 April, 2009, 12:35 pm

Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) has claimed that party supremo Mayawati was
set to become the next Prime Minister even as the opposition parties
were making all out effort to stall the BSP’s crusade towards Delhi.

”All the opposition parties particularly the Congress and BJP were
worried about the peoples’ support received by the BSP countrywide in
the last two phases of elections and they are trying to defame the BSP
government of UP through several issues ”, said the state BSP president
Swami Prasad Maurya.

Talking to reporters here today, Mr Maurya said the ideology of the
party of ‘ sarva samaj’ was accepted throughout the country and people
of other states too want development like Uttar Pradesh in their states.

”But these political parties, opposed to the BSP, were making wild
allegations against the UP government just to confuse the people”, he

He said Ms Mayawati’s formula of social engineering has now clicked
in the country when the masses also want a caste and religion free

Several senior trade leaders associated with Banwari Lal Kanchal joined the party today.

Mr Kanchal, who joined the BSP leaving the Samajwadi party last
week, said these new entrants would dedicate themselves for the party.

Mayawati urges electorate to vote for BSP

Kolkata, Apr. 21 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj
Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday urged the people to vote for her
party to form a BSP Government at the Centre.

“The BSP is contesting in almost every seat. The party did not make any
electoral tie up with any party. Now, people can vote for the BSP
candidates,” Mayawati said while addressing an election rally here.

Mayawati also asked people to vote out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
and the Congress for failing to fulfill the aspiration of the people
belonging to the backward classes.

The BSP chief further said that her government would not take any help
from the businessmen or the rich persons to form a government.

“If voted to power, the BSP will work to uplift the downtrodden sections. (ANI)

Jambudvipa, that is, the Great Prabuddha Bharath Will  get its first Aboriginal Inhabitant-Scheduled caste PM

Now it is certain who will be the next Prime Minister in the great (?) Prabuddha Bharath democracy although there are several contenders. What leads to the rise of certainty is the school and culture of Prabuddha Bharath democracy that is proud of ancient republic like Licchavi and democracy
like Vaishali which will be back again. Well, there is no doubt that power was in
the hands of rascals, rogues and freebooters” increasingly and the
so-called national parties are losing their charms. What’s more
the party
manifestos are concentrating on local issues mainly instead of national
priorities and this makes the political scenario along with the
upcoming PM undecided.

Mayawati  the celebrated Aboriginal leader of Prabuddha Bharath will  become able to ascend to the throne. This depends
on several post-election equations although a section of the Lefts and
Third Front, if not more, has found her as the most promising candidate
and hence it is alleged that a section of BSP (party of Mayawati) is
busy in hobnobbing with Left.

Let’s turn the attention to a different
aspect. Is Mayawati worth of
becoming a PM? There is no straight answer to it even though her
adherents are equating this with SC/ST empowerment. It’s true that the
SC/ST community or the Aboriginal Inhabitant castes have been treated
harshly for
centuries and the rise of BSP was the best answer to that egocentrism

On the contrary, during his most favorite disciple Mayawati’s reign,
the scene became largely different. She felt the need of expanding
party’s base and started becoming liberal through inviting the upper
castes to join BSP. Her followers and detractors got amused but she has
been in full swing from that time on.

Campaigning for 17 Lok Sabha seats ends in Karnataka

Bangalore, April 21 (IANS) An acrimonious public
campaigning ended Tuesday for 17 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.

About 20.6 million voters, including 10.3 million
women, are eligible to decide the fortunes of 273 candidates in
Bangalore South, Bangalore Central, Bangalore North, Bangalore Rural,
Chikkodi, Raichur (ST), Belgaum, Bijapur (SC), Gulbarga (SC), Bidar,
Koppal, Bellary (ST), Uttara Kannada, Chitradurga (SC), Tumkur,
Chikkaballapur and Kolar (SC).

Charges and counter-charges dominated the campaigning as parties
and candidates did not find a single issue that could create a wave in
their favour.

According to the state chief electoral officer (CEO) M. N.
Vidyashankar, over 406 poll code violation cases have been registered
with the BJP toping the list with 125 cases.

The Congress faces 103 cases and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) 60.

The election authorities have seized Rs.226.5 million in cash, of
which Rs.156.6 million were from from BJP-stronghold and iron ore rich
Bellary Lok Sabha constituency.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyruappa’s home district Shimoga comes second
with a haul of Rs.16.6 million. Shimoga votes in the second phase April

The state police have set up a round-the-clock toll free number
1800-4250-100 for the public to report any poll code violations

The Songs of Mayawati

April 17, 2009

In the old days, songs were composed for kings and emperors. So it is hardly surprising that in present day Uttar Pradesh [Images] where statues of Mayawati [Images]
and her political mentor Kanshi Ram are commonplace, songs have been
written and sung for the empress of India’s largest state.

Listen on to these Maya chartbusters:

Jai Bhim                                             Jai

Bahujan Samaj Party

For Lok Sabha

General Elections-2009

Kumari Mayawati

National President,

Bahujan Samaj Party

Brothers and Sisters,

As it is known to all, Bahujan Samaj
Party or B.S.P. is the only party in the country, which believes in
“deeds and
not in words”.
That is why our party, unlike other parties, does not
release an election
“Manifesto” containing “alluring promises” in
any election rather B.S.P.only makes an “
APPEAL” to people for votes,
enabling it to complete its unfinished works of Sants, Gurus and great men born
in the Bahujan Samaj from time to time, especially
Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati
Shahuji Maharaj, Narayana Guru, Parampujya Baba Saheb Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar and
Manyavar Shri Kanshi Ram Ji
by following the path shown by them so that
it can produce good results in the elections to gain power and then with the
“Master Key”
of political power can make the lives of the suffering and oppressed people
prosperous in every respect. This is because Parmpujya Baba Saheb Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar
was of the view that
“political power is a master-key by which all the
problems can be solved”.

By following this very thinking of
Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, our party is contesting these general elections for
Lok Sabha on all the seats alone on its own strength and with preparedness, in
other words our party has not forged any electoral alliance of any kind with
any party in these elections.

But here the main question that
arises is why it is essential for the general public of the country to cast
their votes for the B.S.P. alone and not for the Congress and B.J.P.their
allies? This main and essential point will have to be understood.

In this regard, it is the contention
of the B.S.P. that it is the only party in the country the
“Ideology and
“Work Style” of which are in the interest of Sarva Samaj (entire society) and our
party does whatever it says in the interest of Sarva Samaj where as other parties make a lot of promises and do
very little, in other words most of their work is projected on paper, and very
little is seen as being implemented on ground.

This is the main reason why because
of wrong policies of the parties having a casteist mindset no significant
change has come about even 61 tears after the country’s Independence in the “social and economic” condition of the “Bahujan Samaj”, which comprises the
Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and religious
minorities including the people of different communities like the Sikhs,
Muslims, Christians, Parsis and Buddhists etc., who account for 85 percent of
the country’s total population.

And I have mentioned about “Wrong
here because the parties which have so far formed governments
in the Centre and most of the states in the country have been depending on
financial help from big capitalists as a result of which these parties on
coming to power tailor their every
“Economic Policy” to suit the needs of those
capitalists, in other words their economic policies are not prepared for
removing the hardship of the general public. This is the main reason why the
economic condition of the Bahujan Samaj
people as well as of the poor people belonging to Upper Castes continues to be bad and pitiable even now.

Keeping all this in view, we had to
form a separate political party by the name of
“Bahujan Samaj Party” (B.S.P) on
April 14, 1984, under the leadership of
“Manyavar Shri Kanshi Ram Ji” by
following the path shown by Parampujya Baba Saheb Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar and now
it has emerged as an important party at the
“national level”.

Not only this, our party has rather
gradually increased its mass-base throughout the country and also sent its MPs
to Parliament and MLAs to legislatures in several states. Besides, government
has been formed under the leadership of our party in Uttar Pradesh four
times  and during all the four terms of
office our party’s government has taken full care of the interest of the Sarva Samaj, but it has given priority
to those people of Bahujan Samaj, who
had been neglected on a large scale in “social and economic” spheres by the
governments of other parties in the past. Taking this issue of neglect
seriously, our party’s government in order to bring about an improvement in the
“social and economic” condition of
Bahujan Samaj people in Uttar Pradesh has for the first time in the country
constituted a separate welfare department for every segment of the society and
by selecting under the
“Dr.Ambedkar Rural Development Scheme” villages
with preponderance of the SC/ST population in particular has decided to cover
them with every kind of essential amenities and now the name of this scheme has
been changed to the
“Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar Uttar Pradesh Gramsabha
Integrated Development Scheme”.

Integrated Development Scheme
” has also been launched in the name of
Shri Kanshi Ram Ji, through
which all the cities, towns and ‘kasbas’,
big and small, in Uttar Pradesh are being development in a phased manner.

Besides, to a large number of poor
people in the urban areas of Uttar Pradesh, who because of their helplessness
had settled unauthorisedly on the land of the state government departments and
have been living there since before 15-01-2009, our government under a
Hithaiy Urban Slum Area Ownership Right Scheme”
has decided to give
ownership right to residential plots measuring a maximum of 30 sq. metres and
minimum of 15sq.metres and commercial plots for employment measuring a maximum
of 10 sq. metres. In the history of the state such a decision had not been
taken by any of the past governments because of which the poor people in a
large number have been exploited for years by government employees, land-mafias
and employees of municipalities etc. But since 15-01-2009 after implementation
of this scheme from my birthday, they have got
ownership right to their
residential plot in urban areas, while they have also got freedom from all
kinds of exploitation.

Along with this, the government land
lying vacant is being distributed with actual possession thereof for
house and for cultivation to the poor helpless people of the Sarv Samaj in the state with priority to
the SC/STs, exploited and backwards in particular, which has so far benefited
lakhs of poor people in the state and this process is still continuing.

            For promoting education, like for
the children of the Scheduled Castes/Tribes, our party’s government has for the
first time in India provided scholarships to poor children from the Other
Backward Classes (OBCs) and religious minorities, particularly Muslims, and in
view of rise in prices the scholarship rate has also been doubled. The
scholarship is distributed to the students soon after they take admission. Our
government has arranged for
“free government coaching” for poor students of
these classes to enable them to get high ranking jobs.

Beside, along with these classes in
Uttar Pradesh, a new era in the field of higher and technical education has
been ushered in for poor children of the
Sarvjan Samaj
for which a historic decision has been taken for the first
time to send students of the newly established Gautam Buddha University in
Gautam Buddha Nagar district (Greater Noida) at government expense to Europe or
other foreign countries for higher education.

By giving priority to development of
the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes a separate provision of 25 percent
fund has been made for the first time in the budget for them. Similarly, for
creating a sense of security among the Bahujan
people a provision of
“reservation”has been made for the first time
in the country for posting police officers from their society as police station

Full care has also been taken of the
interests of the biggest constituent of the
“religious minority society”, the
Muslims, in particular in every sphere. Their economic development has been
ensured and their lives, properties and religion have been fully protected.
Besides, by including the economically backward people in the Muslim society in
the list of backward classes, our party’s government has for the first time in
the state made available to them the benefit of reservation in education and
state level government jobs.

A New Initiative in Respect of
In regard to reservation too, we in all our four terms of
our rule in Uttar Pradesh have conducted a special drive and cleared the
backlog of the
“reserved quota” Vacancies for the people of
the Scheduled Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes in government jobs and
other areas at the state level which had not been filled up for years.

            Besides, our partyhas been making
relentless efforts for securing the benefit of
“Reservation” for the Scheduled
Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes in the areas like the judiciary,
council of ministers, Rajya Sabha, Legislative Council and the private sector
etc., all over the country in which reservation has not yet been provided to
them by the Central Government. In this regard letters have been written to the
Central Government several times. Along with this, our party has written
several times to the Central Government for providing the benefit of additional reservation to those people of the Scheduled
Castes/Tribes who have become Christian
or Muslims
through religious conversion by including them in the list of
Schedlued Castes/Tribes by keeping intact the present fixed quota of
reservation for the later. But the government of no party formed in the Centre
so far has acceded to this reasonable demand of these people.

This not all, the governments of the
Congress party and BJP and their allies have been trying to end reservation
gradually by giving to the
Private Sector on a large scale those “Government
and “institutions”
in the Centre and all the states of the country in which the people of the
Scheduled Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes have been getting job
reservation under government, as there is no provision of reservation as yet in
the private sector for these classes at the Central and the state levels. In a
situation  like this the reservation for
these classes will automatically come to an end one day. Our party is very
“worried” over this and in this regard the people of these classes in the
entire country also need to be very “alert”.

And in this regard, it is also the
belief of our party that this reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled
Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in our country can be
and reservation made available to them in the areas in which they are not yet
getting this benefit only when these people form their own government in the
Centre and the states. And a concrete example of this is the formation of our
party’s government in Uttar Pradesh as the B.S.P. government has ensured a
guarantee for maintaining the earlier available reservation  system even after a “government department” and ”institution
is handed over to the Private Sector.

Besides, in regard to
reservation, I wish to tell the people of the “upper caste society” that our
party is in favour of providing separate reservation to the poor people of this
class on an economic basis in the entire country. But it is the government in
the “Centre” which will have to introduce it by amending the Constitution.
Therefore, our party’s government has written several times to the Central
Government for providing separate reservation to the people of this class on an
economic basis. But the government of no party in the Centre has so far agreed
to this demand of ours. However, in this regard, I wish to give this assurance
to the people of the “upper caste
that the day of our party’s government is formed in the Centre
like that in Uttar Pradesh it will make a meaningful effort to remove poverty
and unemployment of the people of the upper caste society  by certainly making the reservation facility available
to them even without their asking for it. And in this regard, you know it well
about the work culture of our party that it does what it says, in other words
there is no difference between its words and deeds.

            Along with reservation, our party’s
government has always been fully sensitive and serious over the issue of social
security. Therefore, we have raised the amount of the old age/farmers pension
from Rs.150 to 30, In addition, our party’s government immediately raised the
daily wages of the
labourers from Rs.58(fifty eight) to Rs.10
(one hundred) for the labourers as it is the most poor and weak class and
belongs mostly to the category of landless labourers to whom no attention had
been paid ever before because of their being unorganized. And daily wages of
has also been hiked from Rs.73 (seventy-three ) to Rs.10 (one

This is also known to all that the
long rule of the Congress, B.J.P. and their allies for about 61 years
and farmers
have been neglected a
great deal in the entire country, but our party’s government has paid special
attention to agriculture and farmers also by keeping them in the priority
category. Besides, our government in Uttar Pradesh instead of giving unemployment allowance to the youths is
giving them an opportunity to live with dignity, self-respect and self-reliance
by making provision for permanent employment to them. And from May 13, 207 till
January, 2009, in less than two years, arrangement has been made for permanent
employment for seven lakhs people in government and for another two lakhs
people in non-government sector.

In addition to the interests of the
poor and unemployed people of the Sarva
our party’s government has taken full care of the interests of
“labourers”, “traders”
and the people engaged in
and many important decisions have been taken in their
interest also.

            Women Empowerment: Along with
this, our government has granted
“inheritance right” to unmarried daughters from
Sarva Samaj in the properties of their father by amending the section-171 and
174 of the Zamidari Abolition and Land Reforms Act, 1950 for improving the
social and economic condition of women in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier during my second
tenure of rule in 1997 I had secured this
“legal rights” to widows.

            Besides, two important schemes have
been launched on my 53rd birthday oy our party’s government for a
bright future of girls in the state. The first one has been launched ny the
name “Mahamaya Gairb Ashirvad Yojana” (Mahamaya Scheme of Blessings of poor
girls) under which in the name of every girl born in the below the poverty line
families after January 15, 2009, a fixed deposit of a certain amount is made
and the girl on its maturity when she completes the age of 18 years will get a
lump sum of
Rs. One lakh. After the launching of this scheme, the birth of
the girl child instead of being viewed as a burden will strengthen a tendency
to view it as a welcome event and it will also provide special help in
correcting the growing imbalance of gender ratio gap in the state.

            Similarly, the second scheme has
been launched as
“savitri Bai Phule
Balika Shiksha Madad Yogana”(Savitri Bai Phule Scheme of assistance for
education of girls) under which a decision has been taken to provide a
lump sum amount for further studies to the girls of the below the poverty line
families, who have passed the standard tenth.

In this regard, I wish to inform you
that when such a girl takes admission to the standard eleventh, she is being
given a lump sum of
Rs.15 thousand and a ladies bicycle and when
the girl passes standard eleventh examinations and takes admission to the
standard twelfth she will be given an additional amount of Rs.10000 by the
government for completing further studies. All these amounts will be in
addition to the scholarship or facilities made under other heads.

Along with these works, our party’s
government in Uttar Pradesh has given full honour and respect to many Sants,
Gurus and great men born in the Bahujan
from time to time, who have been neglected by the past government. In
their names many public welfare schemes have been launched in the interests of
the Sarva Samaj and several
“new districts, “universities, “memorials” and
“museums” and parks etc.,
have been built in their memory.

Besides, I have to tell you here
that the SC/STs, backwards and the people of the other neglected classes in the
country have been the victims of atrocities and excesses of various kinds of
perpetrated by the people having a casteist mindset from Independence till even
now and they are not able to get proper and timely justice. But our party after
coming to power in the Centre will not allow any “atrocity and excess” to be
committed on any class of the society of the society in the country, in other
words it will do “justice” with honesty and dedication to all and like in Uttar
Pradesh it will create in the entire country an atmosphere free from
“injustice, crime and fear” by establishing a “Rule of Law by Lawful Means”.

Along with this, in the absence of proper
development of all the regions in the country and because of want, injustice,
exploitation, poverty and deprivation some people are adopting the path of
and governments in the Centre and the states have not so far paid proper
attention towards them, but our party on coming to power in the Centre will
wean them away from the path of Naxalism by finding a “lasting solution” to all
these problems of theirs and along with this it will try to bring them in the
mainstream of development by providing
“permanent employment” to them.

Besides, terrorism has emerged as a very
big problem and serious challenge in the country over the past few years and
the main reason for it appears to be “laxity”
and “weaknesses” of the Central
government itself and to a certain extent its political self-interest as well. But our party will pay full
attention towards this also.

And as far as the question of the National
Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme
is concerned, under this scheme there
is a provision for providing employment for only 100 days out of 365 days in a
year and that too only one unemployed person in a family. But our party on
coming to power in the Centre will start a scheme for the poor people living in
rural areas of the entire country which will ensure which will ensure provision
employment for these people throughout the year for all the 365 days

Besides, on our party coming to power
in the Centre all its policies all its policies at the
“national and international”levels
in every respect will be framed by keeping in view the people of all the
religions and castes in the Sarva Samaj.
will also be evolved by keeping all this in view. In other
words, while framing foreign policy and entering into any agreement with a foreign
country, special attention will be paid to the national security as well as the
country’s dignity, self respect and sovereignty.

            In addition, plans of “all
ministries” of the Central government will be reviewed and operated in a proper
manner so that the general public in the country is able to get the full
benefit of all the schemes directly and easily. Not only this, our party’s
government will not enter into any deal with any country in the world which may
lead to its subjugation by that country later on.

Along with this, our government will
not frame any “economic Policy” in any area which like the past governments
will continue to work for development of capitalists instead of formation of
capital in the country. In other words
our party wants growth of capital and not development
of capitalists in the country so that the life of the common people in both
urban and rural areas including farmers, workers, traders and those engaged in
other occupations for employment becomes prosperous.

every “Economic Policy” of our country will be designed to benefit the general
public and not make the rich richer and the poor poorer as it has been
happening during the rule of the Congress and B.J.P. and their allies so far in
our country and most of the states. And then only the poor people of this
country will be able to get two square meals in a proper way. It is only after
this that the missionary goal our party to create an environment of
Hitaiy and Sarvaja Sukhaiy”(
In The Interest Of And For Happiness Of
All) in the entire country can be realised in a true sense.

But for this to happen they will
have to take
the “Master Key of Political Power” into their own hands by
showing a good result of their party in the Lok Sabha general elections being
held now. And for this, they will certainly have to be cautious against many
tactics of the opposition parties like attempts
to cajole, coerce, lure and divide
because these parties can go to any
extent to harm our party.

            In this regard, the opposition
parties will try their best to see in particular that our party does not get
the votes of the Sarvarn Samaj and to
this end they can also try to project the ideology and policies of our party in
a distorted manner before the upper castes. This is despite the fact that the
ideology and policies of our party are not against any caste and religion, in
other words the B.S.P. wants to establish an
“equalitarian social order” in
this country by changing the inequitable social order based on “caste line”, an objective that is in
the interest of the country and the sarv samaj.
And if in this
“transformation of order” along with the
Bahujan Samaj the people of the Savarn
also cooperate by changing their casteist mindset, then the doors of
the Bahujan Samaj Party (B.S.P.) are
always open for admission and advancement of such people with dignity and
self-respect. What I am implying is that the ideology and policies of the
B.S.P. are not against the upper caste society.

this regard, I would like the upper caste people to think over the question why
the B.S.P. would have kept these people in the organization at the national and
state levels had its ideology and policies been against the Savarn Samaj? And
then why would the B.S.P. would have fielded such people on its tickets in the
Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and on formation of its government inducted
them into honourable positions of ministers? From this, it is fully clear that
the ideology and policies of our party are based on the principle
of “Sarvajan Hitaiy and Sarvajan Sukhaiy (Progress and
Prosperity of All.

Besides, with regard to the “Ideology and Policies” of the B.S.P., I
also want to make it clear that an “equalitarian social order” is not going to
be established in the country by organizing the Bahujan Samaj people alone. For
this, we will have to carry along with us Savarn Hindus also on the basis of a
spirit of social brotherhood by changing their casteist mindsetand then only
and “equalitarian social orderas envisioned by the architect of the India Constitution Baba Saheb Dr.
Ambedkarcan be really established in this country. And it is only after this
that the people of the Sarv Samaj can
be united together and distinctions of “high and low and caste and creed” can
come to an end and then alone our party can get an opportunity to come to
powering the Centre and the states.

            But the B.S.P. people
will have to keep it in mind that the Congress, B.J.P. and their allies will
not allow our party to come to power in the Centre and the states that easily
and that for preventing our party from achieving this goal they will use
machination of every kind of our party will have to remain on guard against
this at every step.

            Along with this, it is
my fervent appeal to our party people all over the country “to remain alert so
that their in valuable votes are neither bought nor looted nor remain unused
and no selfish person is able to misuse their votes by ensnaring them in the
name of caste and creed, money, temple and mosque or by any kind of emotional
blackmail, in other words they have to rise to the defence of democracy with
their lives. Therefore, in the interest of Sarva
the country and their respective states, they will have to place the
power in the Centre in the right hands, in other words in the hands of the

Denied their right, Muslims seethe with rage

electoral list

Bangalore on Thursday.

Bangalore: Widespread complaints of exclusion of Muslims from
electoral lists were reported from minority-dominated localities across
the three Bangalore Urban parliamentary constituencies on Thursday.

Reporters from The Hindu who visited Yarabnagar,
Madinanagar, Shivajingar, D.J. Halli, Fraser Town
and many other
localities found voters angry, yet helpless at being disenfranchised.

“I have lived here for 15 years in a permanent house. Every election
day I have gone to the polling booth right after the morning prayers,”
said a livid Mohammed Rehamath Ullah, the 70-year-old “mutuvalli” of
Khaja mosque in Madinanagar in Bommanahalli, who has never missed his
chance to vote in the Lok Sabha elections since 1962.

There were at least three ways in which people were denied their
right to vote. First was the category of voters with EPICs acquired as
recently as a few weeks ago who found their names missing.

The second was of persons who had voted earlier and who found their names stamped “deleted”.

Thirdly, in many cases names had been changed, mis-spelt or identities duplicated.

The widespread perception in these localities was that minority
votes had been deliberately eliminated as hundreds of voters found that
they could not exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Ameer Jan, an autorickshaw driver, had taken a day’s off from work
to vote. But when he arrived at Kaverinagar in Bangalore South (booth
numbers 115)
, he found that his name and those of his mother
Zaibunneesa and wife Parveen Taj were missing in the list.

Holding up his EPIC in one hand and his ration card in the other,
Ibrahim Shariff (60) said: “I have shut my shop to vote, but my name is
not on the list.” Out of the 11 voters in his family, only two had been
included in the list. In this predominantly Muslim and working class
pocket of the city this was only one of many such cases.

Abdul Wahid (57), a welder with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), had a similar complaint.

Ward no. 79 in Shivajinagar (Bangalore Central) had 806 eligible
voters, but by mid-morning nearly 250 people who had voted in the same
polling booth during the 2008 Assembly elections found their names
missing from the lis

Malar Nisha, a resident of Moore Road in Fraser Town, who got a new
EPIC on March 18, was one of the 14 members of her family who had been
turned away from the polling booth at Sir Ismail Sait Nursery School.

“The only two Muslim families in my lane (G-block) seem to have disappeared from the list,” she said.

At least four wards of Bharatinagar from Bangalore Central
constituency reported cases of missing names. “Out of 1,092 voters on
the roll in part 58 of Bharathinagar, 250 names were missing. The
majority were Muslim,” said Azam, a resident who was keeping track of
voting in four booths in this area

Anger over missing names culminated in protests in some areas such as Yarabnagar.

There were rumours that some, whose names had been stamped
“deleted”, were being allowed to vote by late evening if they had
identity proof.

However, Bangalore city Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari denied this.

The Police Commissioner said: “there is no question of allowing
people to vote if their names do not figure in the electoral roll even
if they possess the EPIC. It is against election rules.”

Krishna Byre Gowda demands repoll

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Congress candidate for Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat
Krishna Byre Gowda has demanded repoll in select polling booths,
alleging that a large number of voters from economically weaker
sections have been deliberately and illegally deleted from the
electoral rolls.

In his complaint to Chief Electoral Officer M.N. Vidyashankar on
Thursday, Mr. Byre Gowda said the Election Commission provided
electoral list on April 1 and a revised list subsequently on April 10.

“Many names in the revised list have been marked ‘deleted’ in the
list provided to the returning officers. How can such large-scale
deletions take place? It’s a deliberate attempt to deny the fundamental
right of the electorate,
” he said.

Mr. Byre Gowda said he was appalled that names of only a section of
people have been deleted from the rolls. For example, he showed the
EPIC of Ayesha Banu (WEC3848405) issued on April 8, Salman Khan (WEC
3832540) on April 1 and M.D. Musheer (WEC 3848397) on April 8. “These
names have been deleted in the revised roll
,” he said.

Mr. Byre Gowda said such deletions had occurred in the electoral
rolls in the three Bangalore city Lok Sabha constituencies.
bemuses me is that such deletions have occurred only in areas where
there are economically weaker sections. You do not find such
large-scale deletions in urban electorate
,” he said.

Asked who could be held responsible for this, Roshan Baig,
Shivajinagar MLA, said: “It is obvious that the exclusion has been done
by officials in the Revenue Department.
” “The saffronisation of the
official machinery has led to the wholesale deletion of Muslim voters
from the list
,” he remarked.

Many could not vote due to defective list

Their names were missing from electoral rolls

Belgaum: A large number of voters in Belgaum and Chikkodi Lok Sabha
constituencies in the district, which went to the polls on Thursday,
lost their once-in-a-five-year opportunity to cast their votes in
parliamentary elections because of defective voter list.

Despite carrying Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), a large
number of voters in the two constituencies were forced to return home
as their names were missing from the electoral rolls.

The changes in the polling stations only added to the confusion that
prevailed in almost every polling station in the two constituencies.

Perhaps, this is one of the major reasons behind the less than
expected voter response in the two constituencies, particularly in

The polling agents of different political parties assisting the
voters outside the polling stations were apparently annoyed over the
manner in which the electoral rolls were prepared.

One of the major mistakes which the polling agents pointed out was
the deletion of certain voters who are alive and continued to reside in
the same place.

At polling station number 164 in Belgaum city, names against serial
numbers 121, 137, 138, 141, 185, 232, 232, 271, 295, 308 and a few
others were missing.

A polling agent, Asif A., said only a few of them were not alive and
he was forced to send others back home as their names were missing.

Citing another example, he showed the electoral roll in respect of
polling station number 163 where the serial number 3,900 was missing.

Voters in several polling stations said though they had voter cards, their names were missing in the voters list.

Sunil K., a voter in Hanuman Nagar, said many voters were not aware of the changes in polling stations hence the confusion.

The voters went to the same polling stations where they had cast
their vote in the Assembly elections held last year when they had to
cast their votes elsewhere.

50 p.c. voter turnout in Gulbarga

GULBARGA: An estimated 50 per cent of the electorate voted in the Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday.

Polling was marred by sporadic incidents of clashes between Congress
and BJP workers and boycott of elections in a few polling booths by
people demanding basic amenities. There were also reports of many
people complaining that their names were missing from the voter list.

Speaking in a similar tone, the former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa
makes a blistering attack on the BJP Government for pursuing “unfair”
poll practices by allegedly distributing money and liquor to woo

The above report is the reason for High stakes for ruling BJP in Karnataka’s first & second phase

Because of the above mentioned report, Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa has said that the Bharatiya Janata
Party will win in 14 of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies
where elections
were held in the State on Thursday. He himself claimed that he has received
reports to this effect.
Yeddyurappa said that of the remaining 11 Lok Sabha constituencies
which would go to polls on April 30, the BJP would win in eight or nine

Sadananda Gowda is also confident of BJP winning 22 seats in State

Congress has most candidates with criminal records in phase II

Delhi, April 20 (IANS) Nearly 300 candidates with criminal records from
different political parties are fighting the second phase of Lok Sabha
polls on April 23, with the Congress party topping the list with 40,
according to a survey.

According to an analysis by an NGO, National Election Watch, of the
1,425 candidates in the fray for the second phase, 288 have criminal

The first phase had 222 candidates with criminal records.

In the second phase,
while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with 27 and the
Samajwadi Party has 13 such candidates.

Among the states, Bihar tops the list with 60 candidates with
criminal backgrounds followed by Maharashtra with 58, Uttar Pradesh
with 39 and Jharkhand with 34 such candidates.

Polling in the second phase will be held in 13 states.

These constituencies too have crorepati candidates

MPs from Mysore and Mandya seeking re-election

MYSORE: Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya too have their share of crorepati candidates, with four each in the constituencies.

According to National Election Watch (NEW), candidates with criminal
records have been fielded in the three constituencies and they form
over 45 per cent of the total number of candidates with criminal
records in the second phase of the election in the State.

The Chamarajnagar and Mandya constituencies have two candidates with
criminal records while Mysore has one. The lone independent candidate
with a serious criminal case in the second phase is contesting from
Mysore, according to a report of the NEW

most Indians and certainly almost all SC/STs can only dream about. The

Parties should give more tickets to rich: Wealthiest candidate

New Delhi, April 19 (IANS) He is unabashed about his
new found fame as the wealthiest candidate in the Lok Sabha polls.
Deepak Bhardwaj of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) says the rich can
“serve the poor better” and should get more nominations in elections.

He also likens party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to “an army commander” who keeps factionalism at bay.

Bhardwaj, who is fighting from West Delhi, has declared assets worth
over Rs.603 crores (Rs.6.03 billion), thus making him the richest
candidate so far in these elections.

“It is good that political parties nominate rich candidates in
elections. If you find a rich person as your candidate, he or she can
help the poor better and look after development work,” he said, well
aware that a contestant from Gujarat, Khimjibhai Patel, has declared
assets worth over Rs.500 crores (Rs.5 billion).

“How can a poor candidate serve the poor? It only stands to reason
and therefore richer candidates should be given more chance to contest
elections,” 58-year-old Bhardwaj told IANS.

Bhardwaj is the second candidate of the BSP - a party whose creed is
known for championing the cause of the downtrodden - to have declared
assets of over a billion rupees. Kanwar Singh Tanwar, the BSP candidate
from South Delhi, had declared assets worth over Rs.150 crores (Rs.1.5

A Delhi University graduate, Bhardwaj has been associated with over
a dozen welfare organisations and educational institutions and wants to
revolutionise country’s education system.

“I feel that if everyone is educated in the country then there is no
need for reservations in any sector. I dream of an India of 100 percent

“I am planning to set up a university in Dwarka and many other
educational institutions to provide education to people,” said
Bhardwaj, who says he works 20 hours a day for the elections

The Bhardwaj family owns lands in almost 40 villages around Delhi
and has a thriving real estate business in various cities. They also
own the huge Nitesh Kunj Hotel complex on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway
besides owning a small township in Haridwar.

Bhardwaj, who is famous among voters for the welfare work done in
the West and Outer Delhi areas, is likely to give a tough fight to
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jagdish Mukhi and Congress
candidate Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi.

The BSP nominee is focusing on issues like education for all,
development, employment, relief to farmers and sadak, bijli, pani
(roads, power and water).

“I am a follower of Sant Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati who was a
great reformer and I wish to walk in his footsteps. In the olden days,
India was called the Golden Sparrow but I call it the Mountain of Gold
or Ocean of Gold as it has a rich heritage, fertile land and resources
in abundance.

“However, our politicians lack the vision to make use of these
resources and are more busy stocking money for their personal
benefits,” said Bhardwaj who proudly calls himself “the son of a

Before joining the BSP, Bhardwaj has had short stints in the
Congress and the BJP but left both following “factionalism” in the two
major parties.

“Behan Mayawati is like an army commander and all other party
workers are her soldiers. There is no factionalism in the party. The
party believes in the principle of ‘bahujan hitay bahujan sukhay
(everyone’s welfare, everyone’s happiness) and works for welfare of the
society’,” the father of two said.

The family grew to riches after several hectares of land owned by
them in the capital were acquired by the government for development in
the last two decades. The money was then invested in the real estate in
many cities in the country and turned him into a billionaire.

“I am an honest and responsible citizen who has been paying income
tax worth millions every year. I believe the electorate should be given
the right to call back their elected leaders if they find their work
unsatisfactory,” signs off Bhardwaj.

193 crorepatis to contest 1st phase of polls

There are 193 crorepatis contesting the 2009 general elections
during the first phase, a detailed study conducted by the Association
for Democratic Reforms and the National Election Watch suggests.

study says that 14 per cent of the candidates contesting the elections
in the first phase are crorepatis. According to NEW, there are 1,715
candidates in the fray, but details of only 1,440 are available as yet.

Andhra Pradesh has the most number of crorepati candidates. Out of
the 314 candidates in the first phase, 64 are millionaire candidates.

Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are at second and third position with 35 and 29 such candidates respectively.

wise details reveal that the Congress tops the list with 45 crorepatis
while the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party are at
second and third place with 30 and 23 such candidates each.

The average assets per candidate of each party are interesting. The
Mana Party, a political outfit representing the backward classes in
Andhra Pradesh, leads the pack with the candidates having an average
asset value of Rs 27 crore. The party has only two candidates.

Telugu Desam Party is a close second with Rs 23 crore. The Nationalist
Congress Party candidates come third with Rs 10 crore while the
Congress and the BJP candidates have an average asset value of Rs 4 and
Rs 2 crore each. The report suggests that the percentage of contesting
crorepatis has increased from 9 per cent in 2004 to 14 per cent in 2009.

Candidate with the highest assets

Nama Nageswara Rao of
the Telugu Desam Party is the richest candidate. Aged 50 and contesting
from Khammam in Andhra Pradesh this man is worth Rs 173 crore. He has
moveable assets of Rs 1,41,28,66,278 and immovable assets of Rs

Patel Praful Manoharbhai of the NCP is the second richest candidate.
Contesting from the Bhandara Gondiya constituency, this man is worth Rs
89 crore. He has moveable assets of Rs Rs 15,20,54,970 and immovable
assets of Rs 74,70,10,007.

Dr G Vivekanand of the Indian National Congress with Rs 89 crore
comes third. Contesting from Peddapalle in Andhra Pradesh this man has
moveable assets of Rs 23,99,68,026 and immovable assets of Rs

Candidates with lowest assets

Interestingly, Andhra
Pradesh tops the list with candidates with lowest assets. Out of the 76
candidates who have absolutely no assets, 50 are from Andhra Pradesh.
None of these 76 candidates barring one with Zero assets belong to any
major party. All these candidates are from smaller parties or

The only candidate with no assets who belongs to
a major party-the BSP is Gangadhar Gade who is contesting from Amravati
in Maharashtra.

It is a question that BSP chief Mayawati will think about carefully.
The twin planks of the SC/ST agenda—the issue of poor representation of SC/ST in politics and public life and their economic
empowerment including involving is all types of trades and business—needed a political party that could break away from the
usual constraints of Indian politics. To that end, Mayawati’s initial
steps, however sectarian their outlook, were geared to fulfilling that

Somewhere in that pursuit, the means to do so were lost sight of. If
money and a widening of the caste coalition were called for,
these steps were taken without much ado. There is no danger of a political
party following such a system.

The BSP was no exception and today it
is hard to believe that it
continues to follow its original intent. In real terms, reservations
became the start and end of all
policymaking. What this does is prevent any meaningful analysis by the
party’s support base of what is going on in the party. Reservation has
a powerful symbolic value that serves as a substitute for the
substantive parts of the SC/ST agenda. Now it is time to have every
right to have reservation in trade and business enabling them to have
proportionate numbers amongst the Billionaires. Why not?  It goes
without saying that it
makes a rich substitute.

father did it to his mother. Now he says all women are his sisters,
fearing that he will be booked under untouchability act which is a
