Traditionally the are 84,000 Dharma Doors - 84,000 ways to get Awakeness. Maybe so; certainly the Buddha taught a large number of practices that lead to Awakeness. This web page attempts to catalogue those found in the Pali Suttas (DN, MN, SN, AN, Ud & Sn 1). There are 3 sections:
The discourses of Buddha are divided into 84,000, as to separate addresses. The division includes all that was spoken by Buddha.”I received from Buddha,” said Ananda, “82,000 Khandas, and from the priests 2000; these are 84,000 Khandas maintained by me.” They are divided into 275,250, as to the stanzas of the original text, and into 361,550, as to the stanzas of the commentary. All the discourses including both those of Buddha and those of the commentator, are divided into 2,547 banawaras, containing 737,000 stanzas, and 29,368,000 separate letters.

Sivaka Sutta: To Sivaka
translated from the Pali by
Translator’s note: Some people have interpreted this sutta as stating that there are many experiences that cannot be explained by the principle of kamma. A casual glance of the alternative factors here — drawn from the various causes for pain that were recognized in the medical treatises of his time — would seem to support this conclusion. However, if we compare this list with his definition of old kamma in , we see that many of the alternative causes are actually the result of past actions. Those that aren’t are the result of new kamma. For instance, counts asceticism — which produces pain in the immediate present — under the factor harsh treatment. The point here is that old and new kamma do not override other causal factors operating in the universe — such as those recognized by the physical sciences — but instead find their expression within those factors. A second point is that some of the influences of past kamma can be mitigated in the present — a disease caused by bile, for instance, can be cured by medicine that brings the bile back to normal. Similarly with the mind: suffering caused by physical pain can be ended by understanding and abandoning the attachment that led to that suffering. In this way, the Buddha’s teaching on kamma avoids determinism and opens the way for a path of practice focused on eliminating the causes of suffering in the here and now.
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling near in the Bamboo Grove Monastery, the Squirrel’s Feeding Place. There the wanderer went to the Blessed One and, on arrival, exchanged courteous greetings with him. After an exchange of friendly greetings & courtesies, he sat to one side. As he was sitting there, he said to the Blessed One, “Master Gotama, there are some priests & contemplatives who are of this doctrine, this view: Whatever an individual feels — pleasure, pain, neither-pleasure-nor-pain — is entirely caused by what was done before. Now what does Master Gotama say to that?”
[The Buddha:] “There are cases where some feelings arise based on bile. You yourself should know how some feelings arise based on bile. Even the world is agreed on how some feelings arise based on bile. So any priests & contemplatives who are of the doctrine & view that whatever an individual feels — pleasure, pain, neither-pleasure-nor-pain — is entirely caused by what was done before — slip past what they themselves know, slip past what is agreed on by the world. Therefore I say that those priests & contemplatives are wrong.”
“There are cases where some feelings arise based on phlegm… based on internal winds… based on a combination of bodily humors… from the change of the seasons… from uneven care of the body… from harsh treatment… from the result of kamma. You yourself should know how some feelings arise from the result of kamma. Even the world is agreed on how some feelings arise from the result of kamma. So any priests & contemplatives who are of the doctrine & view that whatever an individual feels — pleasure, pain, neither pleasure-nor-pain — is entirely caused by what was done before — slip past what they themselves know, slip past what is agreed on by the world. Therefore I say that those priests & contemplatives are wrong.”
When this was said, Moliyasivaka the wanderer said to the Blessed One: “, lord! Magnificent! Just as if he were to place upright what was overturned, to reveal what was hidden, to point out the way to one who was lost, or to carry a lamp into the dark so that those with eyes could see forms, in the same way has the Blessed One — through many lines of reasoning — made the Dhamma clear. I go to the Blessed One for refuge, to the Dhamma, & to the community of monks. May the Blessed One remember me as a lay follower who has gone for refuge from this day forward, for life.”
Bile, phlegm, wind, a combination,
Season, uneven, harsh treatment,
I.e., diseases and pains that come from a malfunction of the gall bladder.
This concluding verse seems to have been added by the compilers of the Canon as a mnemonic device.

The teachings of Buddha are eternal, but even then Buddha did not proclaim them to be infallible. The religion of Buddha has the capacity to change according to times, a quality which no other religion can claim to have…Now what is the basis of Buddhism? If you study carefully, you will see that Buddhism is based on reason. There is an element of flexibility inherent in it, which is not found in any other religion.

POLITICS IS SACRED with GOOD GOVERNANCE
Agra alert for Mayawati’s surprise visit
Panic buttons have been pressed and government departments are suddenly in a tizzy as Chief Minister Mayawati will begin her surprise visits across the state this week, and many believe she will start with Agra.
“The fear in the bureaucracy is that, the party supremo would like to send out a stern message that the government is on the move and determined to deliver whatever promises were made,” said a ruling Bahujan Samaj Party activist Raj Kumar of Jagdishpura, a SC locality.
The biggest fear of the district administration is the possibility of villagers venting their grievances openly if the chief minister chooses to interact directly with them.
“Reports from Lucknow suggest she might land directly in a helicopter in some village,” said a block official.
On Monday evening, Agra District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat suspended three teachers and warned a couple of others in the education department.
During his surprise visit to several villages, he inspected construction sites, interacted with students in primary schools and visited health centres. He has instructed all government departments to promptly meet the targets and tone up the working of the system lower down the village level.
In an Ambedkar village, the district magistrate was disappointed when he asked some elementary questions to students in a school. When the villagers complained against teachers, senior education officials were asked to suspend the three teachers.
In the district hospital and SN Medical College, panic is writ large as a state of high preparedness has been ordered in the wake of Mayawati’s impending visit.
The district magistrate of Agra has been undertaking tours of rural areas and warning development functionaries to speed up work on all pending projects under the 13 point programme for rural upliftment.
He has particularly asked block level officials to maintain good relations with villagers who are agitated over one issue or the other.
