LESSON 47
Basti/Mangaldoi (Assam), Apr 19 (ANI): The Congress party is facing attacks from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Addressing a rally in Basti of Uttar Pradesh, BSP president
Mayawati blamed Congress leaders for wooing aboriginal inhabitants and poor with
fake promises.
Without naming Congress party
general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who had visited poor and downtrodden in
the past, Mayawati said dining and sleeping with aboriginal inhabitants would not
wipe out their poverty and unemployment.
“I want to say this to the leader of the Congress party
that by visiting the houses of aboriginal inhabitants and poor, and sleeping with
them, and by hugging their children, will not wipe out their poverty
and unemployment,” she said.
Congress party is facing desertion.
“Today, all are deserting the Congress and they are calling it a divorce. The Congress party
is standing lonely in Indian politics.
Italian born Ms. Gandhi was conferred the “Order of Leopold,” Belgium’s second
highest civilian award and an honorary doctorate during her visit to
Brussels in November 2006.The Congress and the BJP jointly prevented her becoming Prime Minister because of her Foreign Origin.
Now she is talking about Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Jyotiba Phule for their contribution, for which Maywati, the only Chief Minister who put up large-size statues in this state capital in order to make the present and future generations to make them to know the contributions made by the backward and Scheduled Caste leaders to the downtrodden. The Congress in their 61 years of rules never bothered about the contribution of such leaders including Ms. Mayawati, who is sure to become the Prime Minister, who will instal such atatues in all the capitals of this great Prabuddha Bharat.
But one thing she has rightly said about those who should have been behind bars are now candidates of her own party. May be out of frustration that the Congress and the BJP would never make her the Prime Minister.
PAN report
The Congress candidates lead the pack in this
segment party wise. The report states that 27 Congress candidates have
not furnished their PAN card details. The BJP is second with 30
candidates. However, there are 515 independent candidates out of the
619 in the first phase who have not furnished their PAN details.

Bangalore police take T. Prakash Reddy into custody in 1997 attack case |
ANANTAPUR: A day before Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s
whirlwind election tour of the district the Congress suffered a moral
blow with the Bangalore city police arresting party candidate for
Rapthadu Assembly constituency, T. Prakash Reddy, in connection with a
1997 attack and attempt to murder case, here on Sunday.
A Peenya police team led by Inspector Srinivas Reddy took away Mr.
Reddy to Bangalore amid tight security. He was produced before First
Fast Track Sessions Court Judge Savitri Vinayaka at her residence, who
remanded him to judicial custody.
Arrest warrant
According to the district police, the Bangalore police team armed
with a pending arrest warrant against Mr. Reddy arrived in the town on
Sunday morning, met SP M.K. Singh and accompanied by local DSP B.
Satyanarayana Rao, One Town CI K. Rajeswar Reddy and others went to the
house of the candidate in the Housing Board Colony and arrested him.
The police said Mr. Prakash Reddy was one of the 10 persons accused
in the assault and acid hurling case on one Krishnamurthy in connection
with a land dispute in 1997. Krishnamurthy had filed a complaint with
the Peenya police who had registered cases under Sections 143 (unlawful
assembly), 147 (rioting), 307 (attempt to murder), 109 (abetment), 120B
(criminal conspiracy) and Section 149 of the IPC.
Though others in the case were arrested by the police long ago, the
Bangalore police failed to arrest Mr. Prakash Reddy as he was ‘not
traceable’. A fast track court in Bangalore had declared him
‘proclaimed offender’ a few years ago.
The Bangalore police were forced to act now on the directions of the
Election Commission to execute all pending arrest warrants.
Criminal background
The total number of candidates with
criminal background who will be contesting the elections are 222. The
Congress leads the pack with 24 candidates while the BJP is a close
second with 23.
This would mean that 16 per cent of the
candidates contesting the polls in the first phase have a criminal
background. The SP with 10 where candidates with a criminal background are
concerned.
All candidates put together have 206 charges of
heinous nature which include murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and
extortion.
A state wise break up would suggest that Bihar once again tops the
list with 51 tainted candidates out of the 200 who are contesting. This
would mean that the percentage of tainted candidates from Bihar is
25.50.
Maharashtra with 42 while Andhra Pradesh with 34 is fourth.
Most sensitive
The most sensitive constituency during the
first phase of the election is the Jahanabad constituency in Bihar.
This is considered to be a red alert constituency as there are 8
candidates with a criminal background contesting the elections from
this constituency.
Chandrapur in Maharashtra and the two other sensitive
constituencies in the first phase since there are 7 candidates each
with a criminal background.
The state, which has the most number of constituencies with a red
alert, is Bihar with 9 constituencies. Maharashtra is second with 9
while Andhra Pradesh have 7 and 5 such
constituencies. Jharkhand and Orissa have 5 and 2 constituencies
respectively.

Date: Monday, 20 April, 2009, 6:01 AMMAYAWATI AND THE UPPERCASTES GREED VALUED AT RS 75 LAKH CRORESThe experience of campaigning for BSP in the first phase of voting
on April 16 has given us a few lessons. Voters have been habitually
mindset with the choice of Congress or BJP, or Congress or Communist,
as in Kerala where voting has just concluded. An effective way of
getting the voters out of their mental grooves would be to invite them
to a scenario of change, and that change is offered by Mayawati and her
party BSP. No other party has a vision of Prabudha Bharat with a
Buddhist scenario as put forth in Mayawati’s Appeal, which recalls our
glorious days of the Buddhist past. Mayawati deserves to be PM, first
as a dalit, secondly as a woman, thirdly as an experienced Chief
Minister, fourthly as a Buddhist missionary. She has not formally
embraced Buddhism, but that is certainly going to happen. I would add,
and add strongly, that Mayawati can, and she only can, get to the
change we want. Americans who voted for Obama came from all classes, of
white, black, yellow and all hues, forgetting their own hues, because
they wanted change from the much hated Bush regime. A fascinating
article circulated by Ven. Vinayarakkhita last week points out that we
have a company in India where many of its total 543 employees have
criminal record - 117 charged with crimes ranging from spousal abuse,
rape, assault, extortion and theft - and that company, called Lok
Sabha, is making laws and laws to make us all fall in line.Like Americans, Indians too are eager for change, can get into a
mood for change, casting away the castes they belong to, as was in the
casteless Buddhist era. For the major parties, however, it is in their
interests, to damn Mayawati, often with character assassination, to get
her out of the picture, quoting the jewelry she wears, statues she is
constructing, swapping party loyalties and all the allegations of
corruption, finally dismissing her outright as a queen of the dalits.
They seem to have succeeded, as per my own impressions of campaigning
for the first phase of Lok Sabha just concluded. All the sights and
sounds one heard in Kerala were about Congress and Communist, with BSP
getting no space, and even BJP with all their resources still
struggling to be heard. Let us bear these impressions in mind, when we
go to the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 23.Mention OBAMA to the voters, their antennas go up. Add to it, the
talk about the incredible amount stashed away in Swiss banks, and you
get instant listening. When Obama is struggling to deal with the drain
of wealth by unscrupulous money makers in an era of little or no State
regulations, India faced with a windfall income of Rs 75 lakh crores
from our erstwhile greedy brethren has to yet to get into action: how
to get it back and how to utilize it for nation building and make
poverty a thing of the past, taking care that the money retrieved is
not looted again by the unscrupulous bureaucrats.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had admitted for the first time the
existence of apartheid in India. After the liberation of the people of
South Africa, Nelson Mandela’s government instituted a Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC) at Capetown in 1995, quite unlike the
Nurenburg Trial of the Nazi regime in Europe in 1944. The loot of Rs 75
lakh crores of Indian people’s moneys by India’s own uppercastes
powerful people demands an enquiry quite unlike Neurenburg in Germany
and TRC in South Africa. The looting which started with the passive
governments of Nehruvian era since 1947 continued without restraint up
to the Congress government of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with the
Bofors scandal followed by Prime Minister Narasimha Rao the bribe-giver
who got convicted for bribing four Members of Parliament.Who will be able to handle an enquiry into this colossal theft
from India’s poor, even as the poor people die of hunger, their youth
unemployed, children not getting education and farmers committing
suicide? A government led by Manmohan Singh, a government by L.K.
Advani or a government of Prabuddha Bharat led by Mayawati ? The roots
of the loot lie in the insatiable greed of the looters, and the remedy
for it lies in a significant precept of Panch Sheel: “Adinnadana
veramani sikkha padam samadiyami” (I take the precept to abstain from
stealing). How would Manmohan Singh or L.K. Advani respond to Panch
Sheel, a moral code they perhaps are not even familiar with? If only we
could strive to improve the moral character of individuals with Panch
Sheel, we would not be faced with a Lok Sabha as portrayed above and
confront the stealth of moneys created with the blood and sweat of the
poor toiling masses in India. Sounds utopian? Well, we need to set our
goals as Mayawati has done, and move in the direction of the goals.Coming back to the polls, the next phase of the Lok Sabha
elections is on April 23, and covers 12 States including Andhra
Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharshtra, Orissa and Uttar
Pradesh. To be realistic, we can be most effective if we can reach out
to a few voters in person or on phone the day before, that is April 22.
It has been my good fortune that on the day before the polling in the
first phase, when all was quiet, I was able to contact many on phone
and lead them all, except a few, to the polling booths the next day to
vote BSP. Would it be too much to put aside every thing else, and
devote one day, April 22, to effectively contact the voters, sarvajans
of all castes and minorities like Muslims and Christians, SCs, and STs.
Remember the mantras: Obama, Prabuddha Bharat Mata Mayawati, Change we
need, the mountain heap of uppercaste greed valued at Rs 75 lakh crores
and any other magic words in your imagination.Let us all wish good luck to one another and pray for Buddha’s blessings,LakshmanApril 19, ‘09P.P. Lakshman
