Even as Opposition parties up the ante over alleged incidents of religious reconversion, the Dharm Jagran Samiti has declared that it will ensure India becomes a Hindu Rashtra by 2021.

Speaking in Agra on Thursday, a Dharm Jagran Samiti (DJS) functionary said Muslims and Christians will have to convert to Hinduism if they want to stay in this country.
The DJS has been at the forefront of the reconversion - or ‘ghar wapsi’ - programmes in recent times in which some Muslims have been reportedly ‘reconverted’ to Hinduism.
“Our target is to make India a Hindu Rashtra by 2021. The Muslims and Christians don’t have any right to stay here.
“So they would either be converted to Hinduism or forced to run away from here,” Uttar Pradesh DJS head Rajeshwar Singh said.
He was reacting to the arrest of Nand Kishore Valmiki, a DJS activist.
Valmiki was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in forcefully converting over 100 Muslims to Hinduism in Agra.
Singh said although he has temporarily suspended his ‘ghar wapsi’ programme in Aligarh and some other districts of the state that were supposed to be held on December 25, it would be restarted soon.
The DJS leader claimed that those who have been opposing ‘ghar wapsi’ were fearful of Muslims.
But, he would set India free from this fear, he added.
“I belong to the Solanki sub-caste within the Rajput caste. The Thakurs (Rajputs) respect me. I am their leader and they follow my orders.
“The Muslims had converted Rajputs to Islam by force. But the Rajputs are rising again.
“I will ensure that India is freed of Muslims and Christians by December 31, 2021,” Singh said.
In Etah, Singh reiterated his stand, saying he wouldn’t let Muslims and Christians convert the Hindus.
“We will not let them hunt the Hindus,” he said.
“The enemies have tried many a time in the past to finish Hinduism. But every time, Ram, Krishna and Chanakya came forward to finish them and restore the glory of Hinduism.
“I am also doing the same.”
Explaining the DJS’ plans, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) secretary general Champat Rai told Mail Today: “We are of the view that there are a handful of Muslims in India.
“Others within the Muslim community are actually Hindus. Their ancestors were converted to Islam forcefully.
“Even writer Taslima Nasrin has said that her ancestors were Hindus. The Batts, who are Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir, are actually Bhatts, the Hindus.”
Rai claimed ‘ghar wapsi’ has been an ongoing VHP campaign for the last 60 years.
A resolution in this regard was passed during the 1966 Maha Kumbh in Allahabad, he said.
“We have re-inducted over six lakh people into Hinduism since 1966.
“Mahatma Gandhi, Savarkar and Swami Dayanand Saraswati had expressed their concern over religious conversion.
“They believed it was poisoning the society. Bringing them back to their original religion means correcting the wrong.
“It is the appropriate time now to take it up on a bigger scale,” he added.
A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader told Mail Today that they have formed committees in every district of the state for this purpose.
“We have included some Arya Samaj priests in the team because they issue a certificate to a converted person.
“This is a major document to prove that the converted person agrees to it,” he said.
‘Independent’
When asked about the posture of the Modi Government on this issue, he said: “We never ask Modi or any other BJP leader before chalking out our strategy.
“We only expect them to speak for or against us to clarify their stand. But Modi is the Prime Minister.
“So his silence means his approval. It is the right time for us to fulfil our agenda.”
UP minister Azam Khan said: “RSS is behaving like the Taliban. They don’t want the Constitution of India.
“They have their own agenda of finishing humanism.”
Meanwhile, reacting sharply to the DJS statement, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said: “DJS is a wing of RSS, which had supported Modi and the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections.
“They are now drifting away from the agenda of the NDA.”
He dared the Modi Government to either accept the activities of DJS or “show some guts” and disband it.

Look, the BJP victory in UP has given more strength to the RSS. Now it controls a state with the largest number of seats in Parliament (the Lok Sabha).

What happens if the RSS pushes its agenda of a Hindu Rashtra?
It is not possible and when I say not possible, I mean there will be lots of resistance.
If India declared itself a Hindu Rashtra, it will not progress. There will certainly be resistance by Hindus themselves in different parts of the country. They will be the biggest hurdle.
A large number of people do not want a Hindu Rashtra at all. Today, there may only be a few people who are vocal against it.
(The Shiromani) Akali Dal in Punjab will never want a Hindu Rashtra. It will not support it.
Minorities, not only Muslims, but Christians and Sikhs are also against it.
Who wanted the British empire? Nobody wanted British rule. Ultimately, people fought against it and won.
‘Not my Hinduism’ should be our slogan
To avoid the danger of 2019, I would suggest that Opposition parties come together.
Take the case of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. The CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) and Congress should realise that Mamata is more powerful than them like the BJD (Biju Janata Dal) is in Odisha, the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) and the JD-U (Janata Dal-United) is in Bihar.
The Opposition only talks about stopping the BJP, but what practical measures are they taking to take it on?
BJP leaders including Union ministers have said Muslims should no longer be treated as a minority as their population has grown.
Not only Muslims, Christians, Jains, Sikhs are religious minorities. They are minorities because they belong to different religions with a population less than the majority community.
There is no question that Muslims will not be minorities in India.
If we remove the minority tag from Muslims, then we cannot be a member of the United Nations. The international community will boycott us.
It has been clearly mentioned in the UN’s minority council that a special commission should be set up for minorities in each country. The council also recommended a targeted approach for the upliftment of the minority communities.
Union Minister of State Giriraj Singh has stated that the Muslim population in India has reached such a level that the minority tag should be removed from it.
According to the Sachar Committee report, at the end of the (this) century, the population of Muslims will consolidate at 18 to 19 per cent approximately. Even in this scenario, the population of Hindus will remain at about 80 per cent.
The latest figures have revealed that Muslims have a lower birth rate than others including Hindus in the last decade.
Modi and Muslims need a political outreach
A decade after the Sachar Committee submitted its recommendations, the RSS and BJP say the move to constitute such a committee to study the socio-economic status of Muslims was a wrong approach in a secular country.
But the reference to the Sachar Committee categorically specified that it was tasked to collect the comparative figures of poverty, education, service of Muslims vis-a-vis upper caste Hindus, Other Backward Classes and Dalits. So, it was a comprehensive report. It was clearly not a communal approach.
The report was not only for the Muslims. The report mainly highlighted Muslims because if you look at the parameters — education, poverty, health and others — they were at the bottom of the table.
One of the most important recommendations of the Sachar Committee report was the setting up of an equal opportunities commission. This exists in the United Kingdom and the United States.
There is also talk about Muslim appeasement.
The socio-economic status of Muslims is very low and poor. Muslims are still deprived and marginalised. You can see it for yourself if you visit any town across the country.

Like any other community, Muslims are citizens of this country. Their condition is improving, but there is urgent need for an equality commission.
Muslims have been part of this country for centuries, large numbers of Muslims have converted (in the past) for different reasons.
Swami Vivekananda said they (the Muslims) converted because they were in the worst conditions.
Hindus and Muslims coming together, Vivekananda said, is the only remedy for India.

Godse joined RSS in Sangli (Maharashtra) in 1932 as a boudhik karyawah (ground worker), and simultaneously remained a member of the Hindu Mahasabha, both right wing organizations that occasionally participated in the freedom struggle. He participated in protest marches including the protests of 1938-39 in Bhagyanagar against the Nizam of Hyderabad who was trying to turn Hyderabad into an Islamic state for which he was jailed for a short duration. He often wrote articles in newspapers to publicise his thoughts. During this time, Godse and Golwalkar (the RSS Sarsangchalak) often worked together, and they translated Babarao Savarkar’s book “Rashtra Mimansa” into English. However, their relations soured when Golwalkar took the entire credit for this translation. In early 1940s, Godse formed his own organization called “Hindu Rashtra dal”[13] on the Vijayadashami day of 1942, though he continued to remain a member of the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha.[2]
In 1946, Godse left the RSS and Hindu Mahasabha over the issue of the partition of India. His relations with many members of the RSS soured, and he felt that the RSS was softening in its stance.[14][15]
