Purnima is also known as Buddha Jayanti, Vesak, Vaishaka and Buddha’s
Birthday. This is believed to be the 2584th Birth Anniversary of Gautama
Buddha.
Buddha
Purnima is celebrated as birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha, a
spiritual teacher on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. Gautama
Buddha’s birth name was Siddhartha Gautama. Buddha was born between
563-483 B.C in Lumbini, Nepal. He died at the age of 80 at Kushinagar,
Uttar Pradesh.
On
Buddha Purnima, people across the globe offer prayers to Lord Buddha
and seek knowledge and wisdom. Some people visit Buddhist temples and
donate alms to the needy and poor people. Devotees also meditate,
observe fast and read Holy Scripture of Buddhist religion on this day.
You may also celebrate Buddha Purnima and share Lord Buddha teachings
and quotes by sending Happy Buddha Purnima messages, wishes, quotes and

For
Buddhists, Bodh Gaya is the most important pilgrimage site related to
the life of Gautama Buddha. The other three important pilgrimage sites
are Kushinara , Lumbini, and Sarnath. It is believed that Gautama Buddha
obtained Awakenment at Bodhagaya and he first taught the Dharma at
Sarnath.Buddhists believed that all three major things happened on this
day in the life of Buddha, these are - his birth, his attaining
awakenment , and his death, Parinibbana .
