X’inhu, patrijiet, l-element Nibbana bil-fdal li jibqa ‘?

Xi ħadd li tela ‘fil-vettura ta’ Bodhisattva għandu jiddeċiedi li
“Għandi nmexxi l-ħlejjaq kollha lejn Nibbana, fl-isfera ta ‘Nibbana li
ma tħalli xejn warajh”. X’inhu dan l-isfera ta ‘Nibbana li ma tħalli
xejn warajh?

“Xejn ma jista ‘jagħti kuntentizza reali kif jista’ [jista] Nibbana.” Hekk qal il-Buddha

Li l-passjonijiet huma qishom jaqbad in-nar kien it-test ta ‘priedka li l-Buddha kkonsenja lill-Bhikkus

meta kien joqgħod Gaya. Dan huwa dak li qal:
“L-affarijiet kollha, O Bhikkus, qegħdin jaqbdu. U x’inhuma, O Qassisin, dawn l-affarijiet kollha li jinsabu fuq nar?

“L-għajn, O Bhikkus, tinsab fuq in-nar; il-formoli huma fuq in-nar;
is-sensi tal-għajnejn qiegħed fuq in-nar; l-impressjonijiet li jirċievu l-għajn huma mixgħula
nar; u kwalunkwe sensazzjoni, pjaċevoli, mhux pjaċevoli, jew indifferenti,
toriġina fid-dipendenza fuq l-impressjoni li jirċievi hu, li huwa wkoll fuq in-nar. “

“U x’inhuma dawn in-nar?”

“Bil-. in-nar tal-passjoni, ngħid jien, bin-nar tal-mibegħda, mal-id
in-nar tal-maturazzjoni; bi twelid, xjuħija, mewt, niket, lamentazzjoni,
miżerja, niket u disperazzjoni qegħdin in-nar. “

“Il-widna qiegħda tieħu fuqu; il-ħsejjes jinsabu fuq in-nar; l-imnieħer
ikun in-nar; irwejjaħ huma fuq in-nar; l-ilsien qiegħed fuq in-nar;
il-gosti huma fuq in-nar; il-korp qiegħed fuq nar;
l-ideat qed jaqbdu; u kwalunkwe sensazzjoni, pjaċevoli, mhux pjaċevoli, jew
indifferenti, toriġina fid-dipendenza fuq l-impressjoni li tirċievi
moħħok, dak ukoll qiegħed fuq nar.

“U x’inhuma dawn in-nar?”

“Min-nar tal-passjoni, ngħid jien; bin-nar tal-mibegħda; man-nar
ta ‘maturazzjoni; bi twelid, xjuħija, mewt, niket, lamentazzjoni,
miżerja, niket, u disperazzjoni qegħdin in-nar. “

“Jipperċepixxi dan, O Bhikkus, il-persuna mgħallma u nobbli [persuna] toħroġ l-istmerrija.

U meta joħroġ din l-istmerrija, huwa jinqered mill-passjoni, u
bl-assenza tal-passjoni jsir ħieles, u meta jkun liberu jsir konxju li
hu ħieles. “

Dan il-Buddha għamilha ċara fi priedka mogħtija lill-Bhikkus li fiha qal:
“Eċitati mill-regħba (lobha), aħwa, furious bir-rabja (dosa),
għomja bid-delużjoni (moha), b’moħħu megħlub, b’moħħ skjavjat, l-irġiel
jirriflettu fuq is-sfortuna tagħhom stess, l-irġiel jirriflettu fuq
l-isfortuna ta ‘ħaddieħor, l-irġiel jesperjenzaw tbatija mentali u
dwejjaq.

”Madankollu, jekk ir-regħba, ir-rabja u d-delużjoni
jintemmu [bl-] irġiel, la jirriflettu la l-isfortuna tagħhom u lanqas
is-sofferenza mentali u d-dieqa.

Għalhekk, ħuti, Nibbana hija viżibbli f’din il-ħajja u mhux sempliċement
fil-futur - li tistieden, attraenti, aċċessibbli għad-dixxiplu għaref. “

Li tgħix f’Nibbana hija Dhamma

1. “Xejn ma jista ‘jagħti hena reali kif jista’ [jista] Nibbana.”
Hekk qal il-Buddha.

2. Mid-duttrini kollha mgħallma mill-Buddha, il
id-duttrina ta ’Nibbana hija l-iktar waħda ċentrali.

3. X’inhu Nibbana? Nibbana kif mgħallem mill-Buddha
għandu tifsira u kontenut totalment differenti minn dak li ngħata
dan mill-predeċessuri tiegħu.

4. Minn Nibbana huma fissru s-salvazzjoni tar-ruħ.

5. B’hekk kien hemm erba ’modi kif kienet Nibbana
maħsuba minn: (1) Laukik (materjal, tiekol, tixrob u tkun tat-tip għajjien); (2)
Jogic; (3) Brahmanic, u (4) Upanishadic.

6. Kien hemm karatteristika waħda komuni tal-Brahmaniku
u l-kunċetti Upanishadic ta ‘Nibbana. Huma kienu jinvolvu r-rikonoxximent ta ‘
ruħ bħala entità indipendenti - teorija li l-Buddha ċaħad.
Il-Buddha għalhekk ma kellu l-ebda diffikultà biex jirrifjuta l-Brahmaniku u l-Upanishadic
tagħlim ta ‘Nibbana.

7. Il-kunċett ta ‘Laukik ta’ Nibbana kien wisq materjalist
nappella lill-Buddha. Ma kienet tfisser xejn ħlief is-sodisfazzjon tal-bniedem
aptit tal-annimali. Ma kien hemm xejn spiritwali fiha.

8. Taċċetta tali kunċett ta ‘Nibbana l-Buddha
ħass li kien ħażin kbir li jista ’jsir lil bniedem.

9. Għas-sodisfazzjon tal-aptit jista ’jirriżulta
biss fil-ħolqien ta ’iktar aptit. Mod ta ‘ħajja bħal dan ma jista’ jġib l-ebda kuntentizza,
hu ħaseb. Għall-kuntrarju, tali kuntentizza kienet żgur li ġġib iktar kuntentizza.

10. Il-kunċett Yogic ta ‘Nibbana kien purament
stat temporanju. Il-ferħ li ġab kien negattiv. Kien jinvolvi diżassociazzjoni
mid-dinja. Huwa evita l-uġigħ iżda ma ta l-ebda kuntentizza. Hi x’inhi l-hena
jista ‘jingħad li ġab iddum sakemm idum il-yoga. Ma kienx permanenti.
Kien temporanju.

11. Il-kunċett tal-Buddha dwar Nibbana huwa pjuttost
differenti minn dik ta ’qabilhom.

12. Hemm tliet ideat li huma l-bażi tal-kunċett tiegħu
ta ‘Nibbana.

13. Minn dawn, l-hena ta ‘l-essenzjalment
kif distint mis-salvazzjoni tar-ruħ huwa wieħed.

14. It-tieni idea hija l-kuntentizza tal-għajxien
li qiegħed f’Samsara waqt li huwa ħaj. Imma l-idea ta ’ruħ u l
salvazzjoni tar-ruħ wara l-mewt huma assolutament barranin għall-Buddha
konċepiment ta ‘Nibbana.

15. It-tielet idea li hi bbażata fuq il-kunċett tiegħu
ta ‘Nibbana huwa l-eżerċizzju ta’ kontroll fuq il-fjammi tal-passjonijiet
huma dejjem fuq in-nar.

16. Li l-passjonijiet huma bħall-ħruq tan-nar kien
it-test ta ‘priedka li l-Buddha kkonsenja lill-Bhikkus meta kien
kien joqgħod Gaya. Dan huwa dak li qal:

17. “L-affarijiet kollha, O Bhikkus, jinsabu fuq in-nar. U xiex,
O Qassisin, huma dawn l-affarijiet kollha li qegħdin jaqbduh?

18. “L-għajn, O Bhikkus, tinsab fuq in-nar; il-formoli jinsabu fuq
nar; is-sensi tal-għajnejn qiegħed fuq in-nar; l-impressjonijiet riċevuti mill-għajn huma
fuq nar; u kwalunkwe sensazzjoni, pjaċevoli, mhux pjaċevoli, jew indifferenti,
toriġina fid-dipendenza fuq l-impressjoni li jirċievi minnu, jiġifieri wkoll
fuq nar. “

19. “U ma ‘dawn in-nar?”

20. “Bil-. in-nar tal-passjoni, ngħid jien, id
nar tal-mibegħda, bin-nar tal-maturazzjoni; mat-twelid, ix-xjuħija, il-mewt,
niket, lamentazzjoni, miżerja, niket u disperazzjoni qegħdin in-nar. “

21. “Il-widna hija fuq in-nar; il-ħsejjes jinsabu fuq in-nar;
l-imnieħer ikun in-nar; irwejjaħ huma fuq in-nar; l-ilsien qiegħed fuq in-nar; gosti
jinsabu fuq in-nar; il-korp qiegħed fuq nar; l-ideat qed jaqbdu; u kwalunkwe sensazzjoni,
pjaċevoli, mhux pjaċevoli, jew indifferenti, joriġina fid-dipendenza fuq l-impressjoni
riċevut mill-moħħ, li wkoll qiegħed fuq nar.

22. “U x’inhuma dawn in-nar?”

23. “Bil-ħruq tal-passjoni, ngħid jien; man-nar
tal-mibegħda; bin-nar tal-maturazzjoni; bi twelid, xjuħija, mewt, niket,
Lamentazzjoni, miżerja, niket, u disperazzjoni jinsabu fuq in-nar. “

24. “Jipperċepixxi dan, O Bhikkus, min tgħallem u
[persuna] nobbli tikkonċepixxi l-istmerrija. U fit-tnissil ta ‘din l-istmerrija,
hu jinqata ’mill-passjoni, u bin-nuqqas ta’ passjoni hu jsir
b’xejn, u meta jkun liberu jsir konxju li hu ħieles. “

25. Kif Nibbana tista ‘tagħti l-kuntentizza? Dik hija
mistoqsija li jmiss li titlob spjegazzjoni.

26. Il-kunċett komuni huwa li l-bniedem mhuwiex kuntent għaliex
hu jkun irid. Iżda dan mhux dejjem veru. Il-bniedem mhuwiex kuntent minkejja
jinsab fin-nofs ta ’ħafna.

27. Il-kuntentizza hija r-riżultat tar-regħba, u tar-regħba
hija l-kondizzjoni tal-ħajja ta ’dawk li għandhom, kif ukoll ta’ dawk li m’għandhomx.

28. Dan il-Buddha għamilha ċara fi priedka mogħtija
lill-Bhikkus fejn qal:

Ħbieb, furija, eċċitati mir-regħba (lobha)
bir-rabja (dosa), agħma bid-delużjoni (moha), b’moħħu megħlub, bil-moħħ
skjavjat, l-irġiel jirriflettu fuq is-sfortuna tagħhom stess, l-irġiel
jirriflettu fuq l-isfortuna ta ’ħaddieħor, l-irġiel jesperjenzaw tbatija
mentali u dieqa.
30. “Jekk, madankollu, ir-regħba, ir-rabja u
d-delużjoni huma mneħħija [bl], l-irġiel la jirriflettu la l-isfortuna
tagħhom stess u lanqas is-sofferenza mentali u d-dieqa.

31. “Għalhekk, ħuti, Nibbana hija viżibbli f’dan
ħajja u mhux biss fil-futur - li tistieden, attraenti, aċċessibbli għaliha
id-dixxiplu għaref. ”

32. Hawnhekk tinsab l-ispjegazzjoni ta ‘dak li jikkonsma l-bniedem u
jagħmillu kuntent. Billi uża din it-tixbiha tal-ħruq tan-nar biex
jaħdem il-passjonijiet tal-bniedem, il-Buddha tat l-iktar spjegazzjoni
qawwija
għall-hena tal-bniedem.

33. Dak li jagħmel
il-bniedem kuntent huwa l-waqgħa tiegħu ta ‘priża għall-passjonijiet
tiegħu. Dawn il-passjonijiet jissejħu fetters li jipprevjenu raġel milli
jilħaq l-istat ta ‘Nibbana. Fil-mument li huwa ħieles mit-tbandil
tal-passjonijiet tiegħu - i.e., jitgħallem jikseb il-mod ta
‘Nibbana-bniedem lejn il-kuntentizza
hu miftuħ għalih.

34. Dawn il-passjonijiet, skont l-analiżi tal-Buddha,
jaqgħu taħt tliet gruppi.

35. L-ewwel: dak li jirreferi għall-gradi kollha ta ‘xenqa
jew sekwestru - bħalma hija l-lussu, il-maturazzjoni, u r-regħba (lobha).

36. It-tieni: dak li jirreferi għall-gradi kollha ta ‘
antipatija - mibegħda, rabja, vaksazzjoni, jew ripugnanza (doża).

37. It-tielet: dak li jirreferi għall-gradi kollha ta ‘injoranza - delużjoni,
ngħas, u stupidità (moha jew avidya).

38. L-ewwel u t-tieni nirien għandhom x’jaqsmu ma ‘l-emozzjonijiet u
[firxa] fuq l-iskala kollha ta’ l-attitudnijiet u sentimenti ta ‘wieħed
lejn bnedmin oħra, waqt li t-tielet nar huwa relatat ma’ l-ideat kollha
li huma b’xi mod jitneħħew mill-verità.

39. Hemm ċerti nuqqas ta ‘ftehim dwar id-duttrina tal-Buddha ta’ Nibbana.

40. Il-kelma Nibbana etimoloġikament tfisser tqaxxir,
tifi.

41. Waqt li żżomm din it-tifsira tal-għerq tal-kelma,
kritiċi ppruvaw jagħmlu nonsense tad-duttrina ta ’Nibbana.

42. Huma jqisu li Nibbana tfisser l-estinzjoni ta ‘kulħadd
passjonijiet tal-bniedem, li hija ekwivalenti għall-mewt.

43. B’dan il-mezz ippruvaw jitfgħu redikolu
fuq id-duttrina ta ’Nibbana.

44. Tali t-tifsira ta ’Nibbana mhix pjuttost
ċar jekk wieħed jeżamina l-lingwa tal-priedka tan-nar.

45. Il-priedka tan-nar ma tgħidx li l-ħajja tinħaraq
u l-mewt hija estinzjoni. Ta ’min jgħid li l-passjonijiet qegħdin jaqbdu.

46. Il-priedka tan-nar ma tgħidx li huma l-passjonijiet
trid tintefa kompletament. Ta ’min jgħid, ma żżidx fjuwil mal-fjamma.

47. It-tieni, il-kritiċi ma rnexxielhomx jagħmlu distinzjoni
bejn Nibbana u Parinibbana.

48. Kif tgħid l-Udana: “Il-parinibbana sseħħ meta l-ġisem
jisintegra, il-perċezzjonijiet kollha jitwaqqfu, is-sensazzjonijiet
kollha jmutu, l-attivitajiet jieqfu u s-sensi jmorru. Għalhekk
il-Parinibbana tfisser estinzjoni sħiħa. ”

49. Nibbana qatt ma jista ’jkollha din it-tifsira. Nibbana
tfisser kontroll biżżejjed fuq il-passjoni sabiex wieħed jippermetti li
wieħed jimxi fit-triq tat-tjieba. Ma kienx maħsub biex ifisser. xejn
iżjed.

50. Li Nibbana huwa isem ieħor għall-ħajja twajba
huwa ċar mill-Buddha nnifsu għal Radha.

51. Ladarba l-venerabbli Radha wasal għand il-Waħdieni. Wara li
għamel dan, huwa sellem lill-Eżaltjat u poġġa bilqiegħda fuq naħa waħda.
Allura bil-qiegħda, il-venerabbli Radha indirizza l-Wieħed Għoli: “Itolbu, Mulej, x’inhu għal [= għal dak li hu] Nibbana?”

52. “Nibbana tfisser ħelsien mill-passjoni,” wieġbu
il-Mulej.

53. “Imma Nibbana, Lord, x’inhu l-għan ta ‘dan?”

54. “Għeruq fin-Nibbana, Radha, il-ħajja t-twajba
huwa għex. Nibbana hija l-għan tagħha. Nibbana hija t-tmiem tiegħu. “

55. Li Nibbana ma tfissirx li l-estinzjoni hija wkoll
magħmula ċar minn Sariputta fil-priedka li ġejja:

56. “Darba l-Imbierek Mulej kien joqgħod fi Shravasti
fl-Ashrama ta ‘Anathpindika fejn kien joqgħod Sariputta wkoll.

57. “Il-Mulej, li jindirizza lil ħutna, qal,” Almsmen,
kunu partitarji mhux tal-oġġetti tad-dinja imma tad-duttrina tiegħi;
fil-kompassjoni tiegħi għalikom kollha ninsab ħerqan li niżgura dan. ”

58. “Hekk tkellem il-Mulej, li mbagħad tela’ u
mgħoddi għaċ-ċellola tiegħu stess.

59. “Sariputta baqa ‘lura, u ħutna
talbu biex jispjega x’inhu Nibbana.

60. “Imbagħad Sariputta b’risposta għal ħutna qal,
Ħutna, taf li r-regħba hija vili, u l-ħażin huwa r-riżentiment.

61. “” Biex titfa ‘din ir-regħba u din ir-riżentiment, hemm it-Triq
Nofsani li tagħtina għajnejna biex naraw u jagħmilna jafu, li jwassalna
għall-paċi, l-għarfien, id-dwal, u Nibbana.

62. “” X’inhi
din it-Triq tan-Nofs? Huwa xejn imma l-Ġenb tat-Tmienja tan-Nobbli ta
’prospettiva tajba, għanijiet tajbin, diskors tajjeb, azzjoni tajba,
mezz ġust għall-għajxien, sforz it-tajjeb, konxja tajba, u
konċentrazzjoni tajba; dan, almsmen, huwa l-Middle Way.

63.
“” Iva, sinjuri: ir-rabja hija vili u l-ħażin huwa vile, l-għira u
l-għeluq huma vili, in-negattività u l-għajn huma vili, l-ipokresija u
l-ingann u l-arroganza huma vili, l-inflazzjoni [= il-ftaħir] hija vili,
u
l-indolenza hija vili.

64. “Għall-inflazzjoni
tal-inflazzjoni u l-indolenza hemm il-Mixja Nofsani - tagħtina għajnejna
biex tara, tgħarrafna u twassalna għall-paċi, l-għarfien, id-dawl.

65. “” Nibbana - li mhi xejn imma dik it-triq tan-Nobbli fuq tmienja. “

4807/5000
66. Għalhekk tkellem l-revered Sariputta. Ferħan qalbek,
l-almsmen ferħet b’dak li kien qal:

67. Li l-idea sottostanti għal Nibbana hija li hija
hi t-triq tat-tjieba. Ħadd ma jiżbalja Nibbana għal xejn
inkella.

68. Il-anihilazzjoni sħiħa hija waħda estrema, u l-Parinibbana
huwa estrem ieħor. Nibbana hija t-Triq tan-Nofs.

69. Hekk mifhum, kull konfużjoni dwar Nibbana se
jisparixxu.

Hija xewqa jew għatx u għalhekk it-tielet Verità Nobbli hija wkoll
magħrufa bħala “Thanhakkayo Nirodha” estinzjoni tax-xenqa, l-għatx jew
ix-xewqa. Dan ifisser il-waqfien komplet ta ‘’ thanha ‘jew xenqa.

Nibbana jew Nirodha hija ħelsien assolut mill-effetti tax-xenqa, ħelsien mill-ħażin, ħelsien mill-mibegħda u l-injoranza.

Sakemm ikun hemm dan l - “għatx” “li jkun” u “li jsir” iċ - ċiklu ta ‘
il-kontinwità tkompli. Jista ‘jitwaqqaf biss meta l-forza tas-sewqan tagħha
Ix-xenqa hija maqtugħa permezz tal-għerf.

L-għerf qed jara l-veru
stat tal-affarijiet. Ma nistgħux naraw ir-realtà kif inhi koperta u
moħbija mill-moħħ tagħna stess. Meta l-moħħ ikun ossessjonat bid-defilimenti
bħal xewqa u mibegħda, ir-realtà hija moħbija.

Allura biex tara l-affarijiet kemm tassew kif huma f’moħħhom pur għandhom ikunu mikxufa.

L-estinzjoni tax-xenqa, l-estinzjoni tal-mibegħda, l-estinzjoni tal
l-illużjoni u l-injoranza se jwittu t-triq biex tara l-affarijiet b’mod ċar għaliex
allura biss il-moħħ ikun ħieles minn nuqqasijiet li jkopru l-moħħ.

‘Nirodha’ jew ‘Nibbana’ bħala t-tielet verità nobbli hija l-waqfien ta ‘Dhukka
jew tbatija, u dan jista ‘jinkiseb billi titnaddaf il-moħħ minn
defilements, xenqa u mibegħda.

Dan hu l-għerf li jintiret minn moħħ pur.

Vers 202. Il-Ferħ It-Trankwill

M’hemm l-ebda nar bħal lust,
l-ebda ħażen bħal stmerrija,
l-ebda dukkha bħall-aggregati,
ebda bliss ogħla mill-Paċi.

Spjegazzjoni: M’hemm l-ebda nar bħal passjoni. M’hemm l-ebda reat
qisu rabja. M’hemm l-ebda uġigħ bħall-aggregat personalizzat tal-fenomeni.
M’hemm l-ebda ferħ ogħla mill-paċi suprema.

Vers 203. L-Agħar Marda u l-Ikbar Ferħ

Il-ġuħ huwa l-ikbar morda,
l-akbar dukkha - kundizzjonalità,
jafu din ir-realtà fiha:
Nibbana bliss supreme.

Spjegazzjoni: L-iktar marda serja hija l-ġuħ. L aghar
l-uġigħ huwa fl-affarijiet komponenti. Jekk dan huwa apprezzat b’mod realistiku,
Nibbana hija l-ogħla bliss.

Vers 204. Erba ’Akkwisti Supremi

Is-saħħa hija l-akbar qligħ,
il-kontenut, l-aħjar tal-ġid,
fiduċja fl-aħjar qraba ta ‘qraba,
Nibbana bliss supreme.

Spjegazzjoni: Mill-akkwisti, saħħa tajba hija qabel kollox.
Mill-ġid, l-akbar hija s-serħan tal-moħħ. Minn qraba, min jafdah
huma l-aqwa. L-ogħla bliss huwa Nibbana.

Vers 205. Il-Ħieles Huma L-aktar Puri

Wara li sakra mis-solitudni
u daq il-Paċi Sublimi,
ħieles min-niket, ħieles mill-ħażen,
wieħed jixrob il-ferħ ta ’Dhamma.

Spjegazzjoni: Huwa mexa l-togħma tas-solitudni. Huwa għandu
Esperjenza wkoll it-togħma ta ’trankwillità li toħroġ mill-assenza
tbajja ‘. Li jgawdi l-ħlewwa tal-għarfien realistiku hu
huwa affettwat minn tbajja u huwa nieqes mill-ħażen.

Il-qajjem bil-kuxjenza, kontinwament
assorbit fil-jhana, jipperseveraw, sod fl-isforz tagħhom: huma jmissu
Li ma jorbotx, is-sigurtà mhux eskluża mill-jasar.
- Dhp 23

Vers 23. Il-libertà hija diffiċli

Huma jimmeditaw b’mod persistenti,
kontinwament jistinkaw b’mod sod,
il-wieqfa biex tilħaq Nibbana,
il-Secure Unixcelled minn bonds.

Spjegazzjoni: Dawk l-individwi għaqlija
li jipprattikaw il-meditazzjoni b’mod kostanti, jilħqu livell ta ’fehim li
jippermettilhom jesperjenzaw Nibbana. Dawk l-individwi għaqli li bla heda
ikomplu fil-meditazzjoni tagħhom, b’mod sod u kostanti, jesperjenzaw Nibbana,
li huwa r-rilaxx suprem mill-bonds kollha.

B’hekk smajt li f’okkażjoni waħda
il-Beatu kien joqgħod f’Savatthi fil-Groetta ta ‘Jeta, l-Anathapindika
Monasteru. Dak iż-żmien il-Beatu kien qed jagħti struzzjonijiet, jħeġġeġ,
tqanqal u tħeġġeġ lill-patrijiet bid-diskors ikkonċernat bid-Dhamma
mhux marbuta. Il-patrijiet riċettivi, attenti, jiffokaw kollu kemm huma
widna tas-self tal-kuxjenza, sema ’d-Dhamma. Imbagħad, meta nirrealizzaw
is-sinifikat ta ’dak, il-Beatu f’dik l-okkażjoni stagħġeb:

Hemm dik l-isfera fejn la hemm l-art u lanqas l-ilma, u lanqas in-nar
lanqas riħ; la l-isfera ta ‘l-infinità ta’ l-ispazju, u lanqas l-isfera ta ‘l-ispazju
infinità ta ’sensi, lanqas sfera ta’ xejn, u lanqas sfera ta ‘
la perċezzjoni u lanqas perċezzjoni, la din id-dinja u lanqas dik li jmiss
dinja, lanqas xemx u lanqas qamar. U hemm, ngħid jien, la hemm ġej u lanqas
sejjer, u lanqas stażi: la għaddejt minn triq u lanqas li tinqala ‘, mingħajr pożizzjoni,
mingħajr formazzjoni, mingħajr appoġġ. Dan, biss dan, huwa t-tmiem ta ‘
stress, stress.

Hemm, patrijiet, tarbija fil-ġuf, mhux sewwa,
mhux magħmul, mhux imsaħħaħ. Li kieku ma kienx hemm dak li ma jitwieledx, li ma jistax jitwettaq,
mhux sfruttat, ma jkunx hemm il-każ li l-emanċipazzjoni mill-IFRS
jitwieldu, isiru, isiru, fabbrikati jiġu ndikati. Imma preċiżament
minħabba li hemm emancipazzjoni ta ‘tarbija fil-ġuf, li ma tistax tissajjar, li ma ssirx, li m’għandhiex x’aktarx
mit-twelid, sar, magħmul, fabbrikat huwa discerned.

Wieħed li
hu dipendenti jkun wavering; wieħed li huwa indipendenti m’għandu l-ebda wavering: hemm
m’hemmx wavering, hemm il-kalma. Li jkun kalm m’hemmx xewqa.
Ma hemm l-ebda xewqa li ma jkun hemm l-ebda li ġejja jew tmur. M’hemmx li ġejja
jew tmur m’hemmx li tgħaddi jew tqum. M’hemmx li tgħaddi
il-bogħod jew li jinqala ‘li jinqala’, la hemm u lanqas hemm u lanqas hemm
bejn it-tnejn Dan, biss dan, huwa t-tmiem tal-istress.

Huwa diffiċli li tara dawk mhux affettwati, għax il-verità ma tidhirx faċilment:
Ix-xenqa hija mtaqqba f’dak li jaf; għal wieħed li jara, m’hemm xejn.

Min ifittex li jippromwovi l-benesseri tiegħu, wara li nbeda l-istat
paċi perfetta, għandha tkun kapaċi, onesta u wieqfa, ġentili fid-diskors,
meek u mhux kburi. Kontent, huwa għandu jkun faċli biex jappoġġja, le
żejjed u sempliċi fl-għajxien. Ittaffi s-sensi tiegħu, ħallih ikun prudenti
u mhux brazen, u lanqas fawn fuq il-familji. Huwa wkoll irid joqgħod lura minn kwalunkwe
azzjoni li tagħti r-raġuni għaqlija biex iġġiridha.

Jistgħu jkunu kollha
sew u sigur. Il-bnedmin kollha jkunu kuntenti! mingħajr eċċezzjoni, fit-tul,
enormi, jew ta ‘daqs medju jew qasir, minuta jew goff, kemm jekk viżibbli kif ukoll jekk le
inviżibbli, u dawk li jgħixu ‘l bogħod jew viċin, dawk li jitwieldu u dawk li qed ifittxu
twelid: Mejju l-bnedmin ikunu kuntenti! Ħadd ma jqarraq jew jiddekripra lil sħabu
kullimkien; ħadd ma jixtieq lil ħaddieħor jagħmel ħsara fir-riżentiment jew fil-mibegħda. L-istess bħal ma ġara
ommha f’ħajjitha tipproteġi milli jweġġa ’lil binha, l-uniku tifel tagħha, ħalliha
Il-ħsibijiet kollha li tħaddan għall-bnedmin kollha jkunu tiegħek. Ikkultiva l-an
moħħ kollu li jħaddan l-imħabba għal kulħadd fl-univers kollu tiegħu
l-għoli, il-fond, u l-wisa ‘, l-Imħabba li mhix sfruttata u lil hinn mill-mibegħda jew
għedewwa. Sakemm tkun imqajjem, segwi din l-għarfien ma ‘tiegħek
jista ‘: huwa meqjus l-istat Divin hawn.

Dawk il-buddhas tal
etajiet li għaddew, dawk il-buddhas li għadhom waslu, dawk il-buddhas tal
ħin preżenti, għal dejjem nirriporta. Ma nfittex l-ebda kenn ieħor, il-Buddha
huwa l-veru kenn tiegħi: bit-taħdit ta ‘din il-verità jista’ jkun rebħa paċifika
Kun tiegħi! Jiena nirrispetta ma ‘rasi t-trab tas-saqajn qaddisa Tiegħu; jekk jien il-Buddha
sibt inġustizzja, jista ’l-Buddha taħferni. Sakemm il-ħajja tintemm, sa l

Il-kunċett ta ‘l-ebda awto jew selflessness (magħruf ukoll bħala anatta jew anatman
fil-Buddiżmu) xi kultant jista ‘jkun konfuż. Jekk m’hemmx awto, allura min
jew dak li qed nesperjenzaw ir-realtà preżenti tagħna? Il-Buddha għallem dan
hemm ħames aggregati li jikkostitwixxu persuna ħajja; madankollu
L-uniku li nidentifikaw ma ‘dawn huwa li nisirqu lilna nfusna li nkunu nafu l-veru tagħna
natura li mhix definita minn dawn il-ħames fenomeni.

F’dan il-video, nispjega fid-dettall x’inhuma dawn il-ħames aggregati (khandhas
jew skandhas) huma u kif it-tagħlim tal-Buddha ta ‘ħadd ma jservi bħala
Tifkira li tillibera li l-ħsibijiet, sentimenti u perċezzjonijiet tagħna mhumiex
li għandhom jittieħdu daqshekk serjament; li minflok hemm mod kif ngħixu f’dan
dinja b’daqs ta ‘ħeffa.

kahore he kino e rite ki te peka ke,
kahore he dukkha penei i nga tangihanga,
kaore he koa nui atu i te rangimarie.

He Whakamarama: Kaore he ahi penei i te kaingakau. Kaore he hara kino
rite te riri. Kaore he mamae penei i te whakahiatotanga o nga tohu.
Kaore he ngakau nui atu i tenei o te rangimarie nui.

Irava 203. Nga mate kino rawa atu me te koa nui

Ko te matekai te mate nui rawa atu,
te rangatira nui - te mate,
te mohio ki tenei mo tenei:
Nibbana ngingila rangatira.

He Whakamarama: Ko te mate nui rawa ko te hiakai. Te kino
te mamae kei roto i nga mea. Mena ka tino manakohia tenei,
Ko Nibbana te huringa teitei rawa atu.

Irava 204. E wha nga Ringa Rawa

Ko te painga nui o te hauora
makona, te pai o te taonga,

Nibbana ngingila rangatira.

Whakamarama: Mo nga utu, ko te hauora pai te mea tuatahi.
Ko te taonga, ko te mea nui ko te rangimarie o te hinengaro. Na nga whanaunga, he pono
ko nga mea pai rawa. Ko te huringa teitei ko Nibbana.

Upoko 205. Nga Rangatira Ko Te Mea Pai

Ko te haurangi i te mokemoke
a ka tiro ki te Panui Panui,
kahore he pouri, he kore-kino,
ko tetahi e inu ana i te koa a Dhamma.

Whakamarama: Kua rikarika ia i te reka o te mokemoke. Kei a ia

Tuhinga o mua. Ko te ahuareka ki te reka o te tino mohio kei a ia
e kore e mate i te mate, ka riro i te kino.

Te wewete, te haumaru kore noa mai i te pononga.

Irava 23. He Tino Te Waito

Ka whakaaroaro ratau,
whakapau kaha ratou
kia u ki Nibbana,
te Haumaru Kore i herea mai i nga here.

Whakamarama: Ko aua hunga whakaaro nui
e kaha ana ki te whai whakaaroaro, tae atu ki te maarama o tera
taea ai e ratou te wheako i Nibbana. Te hunga whakaaro nui nei e kore e mutu
haere tonu i runga i o raatau whakaaroaro, kia u me te pono, wheako Nibbana,

Circle-Vision 360 Video Wall Preshow Disneyland Paris

ABOUT
Circle-Vision 360° is a film technique, refined by The Walt Disney
Company, that uses nine cameras for nine big screens arranged in a
circle. The cameras are usually mounted on top of an automobile for
scenes through cities and highways, while films such as The Timekeeper
(1992 Disney attraction) use a static camera and many CGI effects. The
first film was America the Beautiful (1955 version) in the Circarama
theater, which had 11 projectors using 16mm film. And would become
Circle-Vision in 1967, which has 9 projectors using 35mm film.

It
is used for a few attractions at Disney theme parks, such as Epcot’s O
Canada!, Reflections of China, and Disneyland’s defunct America the
Beautiful (1967 version), Wonders of China, and American Journeys, which
were housed in the Circle-Vision theater in Tomorrowland. At the 2011
D23 Expo, Disneyland Resort President George Kalogridis announced that
CircleVision would be making a return to Disneyland Park with a new
presentation of America the Beautiful in CircleVision 360, though it is
not currently known where the film will be presented (as the original
theater was replaced with another attraction), and whether this will be a
version of the original film or a new film with the same name and
concept.

By using an odd number of screens, and a small space
between them, a projector may be placed in each gap, projecting across
the space to a screen. The screens and projectors are arranged above
head level, and lean rails may be provided for viewers to hold or to
lean against while standing and viewing the film.

The Timekeeper
(also known as From Time to Time and Un Voyage à Travers le Temps) was a
1992 Circle-Vision 360° film that was presented at three Disney parks
around the world. It was the first Circle-Vision show that was arranged
and filmed with an actual plot and not just visions of landscapes, and
the first to utilize Audio-Animatronics. The film featured a cast of
European film actors of France, Italy, Belgium, Russia, and England. The
film was shown in highly stylized circular theaters, and featured
historic and futuristic details both on the interior and exterior.

The Timekeeper and its original European counterpart Le Visionarium
marked the first time that the Circle-Vision film process was used to
deliver a narrative story line. This required a concept to explain the
unusual visual characteristics of the Theater, hence the character
Nine-Eye. Nine-Eye was sent through Time by The Timekeeper, so that she
could send back the surrounding images as she recorded them in whichever
era she found herself in.[1]

The European attraction was also
known by its film name as Un Voyage à Travers le Temps, while the
Japanese version was simply named “Visionarium”, with the caption From
Time to Time on the poster. The American Film Theater was known as
“Transportarium” for a period of six months after it debuted, but the
name was later dropped in lieu of “Tomorrowland Metropolis Science
Center”, or formally “The Timekeeper”.

Based on Dr. Nancy Cowardin’s Timeline and Silk Road Scroll, this video
combines both chronological and spatial aspects to create a visual
image of the spread of Buddhism around the world. The video begins from
the birth of the Buddha and ends with the establishment of Humanistic
Buddhism. The lotus, a symbol of purity, is used to depict the birth of
Buddhism in each place.

Make a projector with your smartphone

Your smartphone photos can see the big screen with Photojojo’s DIY projector.

If you’re missing the days of slide projectors and arts and crafts, the MacGyvers at Photojojo
have a project for you. A quick trip to the dollar store will get you
all the tools you need to turn your smartphone into a projector.

Most of the items needed for the projector can be found in a cluttered closet.

Photojojo’s recipe calls for a shoebox, paperclip, magnifying glass, X-acto knife, black tape and matte black paint.

You have to be careful not to allow any gaps around the lens so the image remains clear.

After mounting the magnifying glass’s lens on the shoebox and sealing
the gaps with tape, your smartphone images are ready for the big
screen.

Adjust your phone’s placement in the shoebox until you’ve found the perfect spot.

Lock your phone’s rotation so you can flip it, turn the brightness up
to full blast and play with your device’s placement in the shoebox and
distance from the wall for the best focus.

After a few steps, your photos can be projected.

Now you’re ready to set your photo app to slide show mode and enjoy the show.

For Photojojo’s step-by-step instructions, check out their blog

360° video projection: How it’s created and why it’s worth your time

You’re probably familiar with 360° video by now.
Forward-thinking brands are experimenting with it on Facebook all the
time, but imagine being right in the middle of a room-sized 360
° video.

Stepping inside the 360° walls of Igloo Vision at London’s VRLO
to be surrounded by peaceful scenes of the beach at sunset, underwater,
and our solar system, I was quickly hooked with the idea of immersive
360° video panoramic projection.

Igloo Vision

Igloo Vision creates 360° projection environments, aka giant domes or cylinders (accommodating up to 1,000 people), and Blend Media are the masters of 360° video content, which is projected onto the walls of the dome/cylinder. Visualise is a virtual reality (VR) production studio, but it also specialises in 360° video content creation. It offers 360° video, VR apps, 360 post production and 360° live streaming.

We take a look at what Blend Media, Visualise and Igloo Vision bring to the world of immersive technology.

It’s not secret to brands that impeccable visuals are crucial to
success. But soon audiences will become numb to traditional videos –
many of us can consume hundreds in a day.

Immersive content is what everyone is trying to get their hands on,
but no one is quite sure how to measure its success yet (no page views,
social media likes or YouTube subscribers), or how to predict its true
scope and potential. The term usually refers to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and whole room experiences similar to what Blend Media and Igloo Vision offer.

Although there’s huge investment and research currently behind VR and
AR, it’s still largely expensive and inaccessible to most of the public
(although Visualise have created ‘the route to mass adoption’).

However, 360° video is more versatile. It’s being
used by brands and news organisations frequently on Facebook, which
helps people to become familiar with the medium.

For more on immersive content, check out AR and VR projects happening right now, including Found Studio’s immersive storytelling and how AR is teaching Londoners about endangered species

But what’s the point of 360° video projection?

Igloo Vision

Beyond creating audience engagement for brands or cool installations at festivals and events, 360°
video projection can serve many purposes. Blend Media say dome
projection can be used for meditative purposes, and after experiencing
the relaxing lapping of waves onto a white-powder sand beach on repeat, I
can definitely see why.

Igloo Vision says it can be used to immerse teams into any scenario (for training and familiarisation), to entertain, or to bring design concepts to life.
This could include anything from risk assessments by sectors such as
engineering and mining, to visualising architectural or interior
design.

360° video projection, much like virtual reality,
can be an alternative education tool, used by institutions such as
museums and universities. It could be used for immersive theatre, or
even set design. There’s definitely potential for games that follow a
narrative, such as (the yet to be released) Last Day of June by 505 Games, which already has 360° elements, to be projected onto a cylinder. The possibility of AR mixed with 360° video projection can create and immersive and interactive experience.

How is 360° video content created for projection?

Blend Media is a creator and distributor of 360°
video content. The company offers it services to brands and publishers
all over the world, such as YouTube, UniLad, Facebook, Google, Lonely
Planet and creative agencies such as Framestore. The main intention and
distribution of 360° video content is for “deeper audience engagement”.

They claim to have the largest library of premium 360°
video and VR films, available to license for use in campaigns across
social media, VR headsets and WebVR. A global network of 360° video creators makes the content, but Blend Media can also support brands to create their own experiences within the browser.

Igloo Vision

Blend Media creators primarily work in 8K video quality, as well as
the normal 4K (which is their minimum and most popular standard).

“However, 8K content looks beautifully sharp in the cylinder,” says executive Rachel Dennis.

“The standard 360°
projection rigs that Igloo vision use are made up of 5 full HD 1920 x
1080p projector, arranged and blended to create and 8k panoramic 360° screen.”

Until recently, Blend Media used a few compact 360°
cameras that were capable of shooting genuine 8K content, meaning
creators would usually have to work with multi-camera rigs which could
make things quite complex. But things are expected to improve.

“The range of camera options and tools available on the market is
steadily increasing allowing producers to really push the quality of new
360 content,” says Rachel.

There are a number of challenges in shooting 360° content for domes or cylinders, according to co-founder of Visualise and 360° content creator Henry Stuart.

“One key challenge is ‘blocking’ of the shot. This is the positioning
of objects in a scene – if you’re in a big dome, with walls 10-ft away
on each side, then it’s going to look odd showing footage of people
walking just past the camera – the perspective will be all wrong.”

Where possible, real life distances of objects is matched to the distances of the screen.

“We have found that motion on the screen works really well,
everything from a gentle walking pace, combined with a treadmill in the
dome (our project with Goretex) through a time-lapse on a river boat sweeping through the Thames at night and as far as 8K 360° footage from the top of a Renault F1 car (Castrol),” says Henry.

He says the quality of video in 360° depends on the size of the sensor and the quality of the lens, particularly in dome projections.

“We always try for very ambitious rigs and grade the footage in the dome itself, to pull the best out of the projectors.

“Plus you also need to factor in extra time for rendering and testing as you’re working with twice the volume of data,” he says.

What about the dome it’s projected onto?

Igloo Vision

Igloo Vision is one provider of 360° projection
domes, cylinders and all of the enabling technologies, including their
own layer-based visualisation system which is compatible with almost any
360° content. It also creates its own 360° video content.

As part of the redevelopment and rebranding of the Miami Science Museum
to the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami, a massive
near-2 million litre Gulf Stream Tank Aquarium was built as its new
centrepiece.

To compliment
this massive feat of construction, as well as to educate visitors on
how the Gulf Stream impacts the marine world, we were commissioned to
design and construct a large-scale audio visual interactive wall and
floor projection that pushes the boundaries of augmented reality in
museums. The 18-metre environment which represents the powerful, warm
ocean current that runs off the coast of Florida and exposes visitors to
aspects of the narratives of the stream such as its influence on the
food chain and fish schooling behaviours.

Visitors to the exhibit
can influence the ultra-high definition flow environment in real time
thanks to camera tracking sensors making the experience akin to a safari
or scuba dive. As they walk through the virtual Gulf Stream, visitors
are exposed to three-dimensional animations elusive and seldom seen
creatures of those waters, including those not typically kept in an
aquarium. We also designed the display in such a way as to encourage
museum visitors to move through a transition area in the right direction
to continue their journey.

Movement drives dynamic natural imagery with a Kinect-based user
interface in the Grotto, a contemplative space for patients and their
families at the Children’s Pain and Palliative Clinic in Minneapolis.
We collaborated with U+B Architecture and Design and the hospital staff
to create the immersive environment. Visitors use the Kinect to interact
with patterns that imitate the natural flow of ripples and currents in
water. An OmniFocus 30200 projection system - now 6,000 lumens
brightness - fills the 14′-wide room with vivid color, projecting onto
curved walls with high-contrast screen paint.

River of Grass: Virtual Reality Interactive Everglades Tunnel Exhibit

Formula D interactive

The interactive River of Grass virtual reality exhibit is a large room
stuffed from floor to ceiling with technology to give young children and
their parents the experience of a fully animated interactive day in the
Everglades.

Targeted at
preschool kids, the virtual reality exhibit provides a host of playful
interactions within the virtual environment to stimulate understanding
of Florida’s precious wetland ecosystem. Using 16 projectors and 7
networked motion detectors to control procedural animations in the
custom C++ 3D application, we believe we pushed the boundaries of
interactive virtual reality for museums.

Exploring the space,
young visitors experience the differing lighting conditions as time
progresses from dawn to dusk and through the night, meeting the animals
that are active during these time periods.
Each animal has its own distinct personality and interactions, reacting to the movement and behaviour of the children.

Children and their parents can also affect the water flowing through
the tunnel by using the log props provided to dam up the river beneath
their feet. These actions visibly affect the plants and animals down
river and teaches young visitors about water dynamics in the Everglades.
Children also get the opportunity to learn about weather dynamics and
witness the pertinent changesthat happen over the seasons as they
progress through the exhibit.

Finally, at the end of the virtual
reality exhibit experience, the young visitors can make use of the
torch props provided to light up the night-time view of the Everglades
and spot animals they would not otherwise be able to see.

Interactive design is basically built off of the foundation of graphic
design. Obviously you need to have like the fundamental skills of
knowing how to follow the grid, how to use the color, you know, color
theory, typography. But it goes a little bit further in that it’s now
just isolated on interactive devices, such as computers, netbooks,
tablets, phones, which can be iPhones, Androids, Blackberrys, even all
the way to, like, ATM, like devices or making, like, designing the UI,
which stands for user interface. User interfaces for, like, cable
television, or the back end of a lot of different things that we
interact with.

Like not to use its own word in its definition,
but it’s basically being able to build experiences and design
experiences, rather than just design elements. So, what a lot of people
are looking for today, and you even notice it too, is being able to
design efficiently and effectively. Not only for the common user, but
the user that doesn’t necessarily know about the product, or the user,
like older people that maybe can’t access it quite well since more, you
know, of the elderly, or older adults are getting onto computers now.
You want to be able to know how to design for all those different target
audiences. So, the term interactive design really has a lot to do with
knowing the limitations that each device has, so that you design for it,
like, appropriately.

ILLUSION at Science Gallery

Science Gallery Dublin
5.19K subscribers
Should you always believe what you see right in front of you? Can you
really trust your senses? Has technology made things clearer or has it
muddied the waters between reality and fiction? And is anything really
as it seems?

Highlights of ILLUSION: NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS at Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin, July 2013.

Curated by psychologist and author Richard Wiseman and researched by
magician and escapologist Paul Gleeson, ILLUSION: NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS
offers an insight into the human mind by exploring the motivations and
mechanisms of sensory deception. This exhibition combines magic with
psychology, optical illusions with scientific reasoning, and confusion
with clarity.

It investigates how perception underpins the way
we see, feel, think and understand our world. This exhibition reveals
that what our brain perceives is often radically different from what our
eyes actually observe.

Magicians are experts at using cognitive
biases to their advantage and recently scientists have started
borrowing their techniques and combining them with advances in
technology to gain a greater understanding of how the brain works. Magic
may seem an unlikely tool, but it has yielded several widely-cited
research papers on a broad range of topics.

So what does all
this mean and how does it affect our day-to-day lives? Can we control
our susceptibility to illusion? Is our tendency to be deceived an
advantage in some circumstances and can we use that very human ability
– to see and feel things that aren’t there — to benefit our lives in
some way?

All religious places that have come into existence due to govt’s
initiative, statutory body or act should have the ownership of the
revenues. There is nothing divine in the management of religious places.
History has enough instances of people killing each other to grab a

https://buddhism.redzambala.com/…/philoso…/law-of-kamma.html
1. The Five Universal Laws
In Buddhism, there are 5 universal orders or laws (Niyamas) that operate in the physical and mental realms.
They are:
a) Utu Niyama: the caloric or physical inorganic order, e.g., seasonal
changes of weather, nature of heat, energy, chemical reactions, etc.
b) Bīja Niyama: germinal or physical organic order, e.g., rice from
rice seeds, sweet taste of sugar, different ways of plant propagation,
etc.
c) Kamma Niyama: moral or cause and effect order. Moral and immoral acts produce desirable and undesirable results.
d) Citta Niyama: order of mind or psychic law, e.g., processes of
consciousness, power of mind, telepathy, mind reading, recollection of
past lives, divine eye, psychic power, etc.
e) Dhamma Niyama: order
of the norm, e.g., the natural phenomena occurring at the advent of a
Bodhisatta in his last birth, gravitation and other similar laws of
nature.
Every mental and physical phenomenon can be explained by
these all-embracing 5 orders that are laws in themselves. Kamma as such
is only one of these 5 orders that demand no giver, nor enforcer, as is
the case with all natural laws.
2. The Importance of Understanding the Law of Kamma
The Law of Kamma is a fundamental doctrine in Buddhism:
Although this belief was prevalent in India before the advent of the
Buddha, it was the Buddha who explained and formulated this doctrine in
its complete form, which we have today.
Puzzled by the seemingly
inexplicable, apparent disparity that existed among humanity, the young
Brahmin Subha approached the Buddha and asked him to explain the reason
for the cause of inequality:
“What is the cause and condition why
human beings are seen to be inferior and superior? For people are seen
to be short- lived and long-lived, sickly and healthy, ugly and
beautiful, un- influential and influential, poor and wealthy, lowborn
and highborn, stupid and wise.”
The Buddha’s reply was:
“All
living beings are owners of their actions (kammasaka), heirs of their
actions (kammadayada); they originate from their actions (kammayoni),
are related to their actions (kammabandhu), have their actions as their
refuge (kammapatisarana).
It is action (kamma) that distinguishes beings as inferior and superior.”
(Majjhima Nikāya Sutta No. 135, Culakammavibhanga Sutta)
The Expositor, a commentary of the Abhidhamma elaborates:
“Depending on the difference in kamma appear the differences in the
destiny of being without legs, with two legs, four legs, many legs, with
perception, without perception, with neither perception nor
non-perception.
Depending on the difference in kamma appear the
differences in the birth of beings, high and low, base and exalted,
happy and miserable.
Depending on the difference in kamma appears
the difference in the individual features of beings as beautiful and
ugly, highborn or lowborn, well built or deformed.
Depending on the
difference in kamma appears the difference in worldly conditions of
beings, such as gain and loss, fame and disgrace, blame and praise,
happiness and misery.”
Thus, from the Buddhist standpoint, our
present mental, moral intellectual and temperamental differences are,
for the most part, due to our own actions and tendencies, both past and
present.
Although Buddhism attributes this variation to kamma, as
being the chief cause among a variety, it does not, however, assert that
everything is due to kamma:
The Law of Kamma, important as it is,
is only one of the twenty-four conditions described in the Paṭṭhāna or
Conditional Relations, one of the treatises in the Abhidhamma.
3. What is Kamma?
The Pali term kamma (Sanskrit: karma) literally means action or doing:
Any kind of volitional or intentional action whether mental, verbal or
physical is regarded as kamma. It covers all that is included in the
phrase: ‘thought, word or deed’.
Generally speaking, all good and
bad actions constitute kamma. In its ultimate sense, kamma means all
moral and immoral volition (kuśalā- akušala cetana).
In Aṅguttara
iii, 415, the Buddha says: “I declare, O Bhikkhus, that cetana
(volition) is kamma. Having willed one acts by body, speech, and
thought.”
Involuntary, unintentional or unconscious actions, though
technically deeds, do not constitute kamma, because volition, the most
important factor in determining kamma, is absent.
Without volition, a deed is sterile; it produces no reaction of moral significance.
Kamma is not fate nor is it predestination, imposed on us by some mysterious unknown power controlling our lives:
It is one’s own doing that reacts on one’s own self, and so it is
possible to divert the course of our kamma to some extent. How far one
diverts it will depend on oneself.
So we have a certain amount of
free will. The past influences the present but does not dominate it for
kamma is both past and present deeds.
4. How does the Law of Kamma Operate?
Kamma is action and vipāka, fruit or result is its reaction.
Kamma is the cause and vipāka is the effect. According to the Law of
Kamma, every volitional activity is accompanied by its due effect.
The Samyutta Nikāya I, 227 states:
According to the seed that’s sown, so is the fruit ye reap therefrom.
Doer of good will gather good, Doer of evil, evil reaps.
Sown is the seed, and thou shall taste the fruit thereof.
Kamma is a law in itself that operates in its own field without the intervention of an external independent ruling agency.
The Law of Kamma acts in the following manner.
a) All immoral actions give immoral resultants.
There are 10 immoral actions, namely: bodily action of killing,
stealing, sexual misconduct; verbal action of lying, slandering, harsh
speech, frivolous chatter; mental action of greed, ill-will and
delusion.
b) All moral actions give moral resultants.
Abstention of the 10 immoral actions listed above, constitute moral action.
In addition there are also 10 bases of meritorious action, namely:
charity, morality, mind culture, reverence, service, transference of
merits, rejoicing in others’ merits, teaching the Dhamma, listening to
the Dhamma and forming right views.
c) A person does moral/immoral actions and gets moral/immoral resultants.
It is not possible for one person to perform moral/immoral actions and another person to receive the moral/immoral results.
d) In judging each moral or immoral action, we consider these 4 ‘fields of kamma’, namely:
1) as one’s own act, 2) as instigating another, 3) as consenting to another’s instigation, and 4) as commending the act.
5. What is the Cause of Kamma?
Ignorance (avijjā) or ‘not knowing things as they truly are’ is the
chief cause of kamma. “Dependent on Ignorance arise Volitional
Activities (saṅkhāra)” states the Buddha in Paṭicca Samuppāda or
Dependent Origination.
Associated with ignorance is its ally craving
(tanḥā), another root cause of kamma. Unwholesome actions are
conditioned by these two causes.
All good deeds of a worldling,
though associated with the 3 wholesome roots of generosity,
loving-kindness and knowledge are nevertheless regarded as kamma because
the two unwholesome roots of ignorance and craving are dormant in them.
No kamma is accumulated by one who has eradicated craving and has understood ‘things as they truly are’.
Buddhas and Arahants do not accumulate fresh kamma as they have
eradicated ignorance and craving, the root causes of kamma. “They have
destroyed the germ, their desires no longer grow.” (− verse 14, Ratana
Sutta).
Although volition is present whenever there is bodily,
verbal or mental action, in the case of an Arahant, that volition is not
accompanied by craving at the end of each impulsive moment, and it
completely disappears without leaving any trace and without transforming
it into kamma. Hence there is no rebirth for the Arahant. However, they
will still receive the results of their past kamma.
6. Who is the Doer of Kamma? Who Reaps the Vipāka?
The answer is given in the Viśuddhi Magga (Path of Purification).
“No doer is there who does the deed.
Nor is there one who feels the fruit.”
According to Buddhism, there are 2 types of truth − conventional truth and absolute truth:
For conventional purposes, we use such terms as man, woman, animal,
being, self and so forth. In reality, there is no unchanging entity or
any being in the form of a man, woman, animal or anything permanent that
can be called a self.
The so-called fleeting form consists only of
mental and material processes that are constantly changing, not
remaining the same for two consecutive moments.
This so-called being
is a combination of five Aggregates (khāṇḍas) that are the aggregates
of Matter, Feeling, Perception, Mental Formations and Consciousness.
There is no doer apart from the action, no thinker apart from the thought. Who then is the doer of kamma? Who feels the effect?
Volition or intention (cetana) is itself the doer.
Feeling (vedanā) feels the fruit or effect.
Apart from these mental processes, there is none to sow and none to
reap. So kamma is not an accretion of the self or soul since there is no
permanent self or soul to begin with.
7. Where is all the Kamma Stored?
An action (kamma) once performed, is finished as far as its performance
is concerned. It is also irreversible. What remains of the action is
its potential, the inevitability of its result (vipāka).
Even within
a lifetime, a person has performed a lot of actions, either moral or
immoral. So he must have accumulated a lot kamma. Where is all this
kamma stored?
In answer to this question by King Milinda, the Ven. Nāgasena replied:
“Kamma is not stored somewhere in this fleeting consciousness nor in any part of the body:
But dependent on mind and body, it rests, manifesting itself at the
opportune moment, just as mangoes are not said to be stored somewhere in
the mango tree, but dependent on the mango tree they lie, springing up
in due season”.
In the same way, fire is not stored in a match but under the right conditions of friction, the match will produce fire.
Kamma is an individual potential that is transmitted from one existence to another.
8. Classification of Kamma
Kamma is classified 4-fold according to its function, priority of
effect, time of taking effect and the plane where the effects take
place.
a) Function
There are 4 classes of kamma according to function.
Every birth is conditioned by past good or bad kamma, which
predominates at the moment of death. The kamma that conditions future
birth is called Reproductive kamma.
Now another kamma may intervene
to assist and maintain or to weaken and obstruct the fruition of the
Reproductive kamma. Such actions are called Supportive or Obstructive
kamma respectively.
According to the Law of Kamma, the potential
energy of the Reproductive kamma may be totally annulled by a more
powerful opposing past kamma,
which seeking an opportunity may quite
unexpectedly operate, just as a counteractive force can obstruct the
path of a flying arrow and bring it to the ground.
Such an action is
called Destructive kamma, which is more powerful than the other two in
that it not only obstructs but also destroys the whole force.
b) Priority of Effect
First is Garuka or Weighty kamma, which produces its effect in this life or the next for certain:
Among the weighty or serious actions, the moral ones are the Jhānas or Mental Absorptions
while the immoral ones are the 5 immediately effective heinous crimes,
namely: matricide, patricide, murder of an Arahant, wounding of a Buddha
and creating a schism in the Sangha or Monastic Order.
In the
absence of a Weighty kamma to condition the next birth, a Death
Proximate kamma may operate. This is the action one does or recollects
immediately before the dying moment.
Owing to its significance in
determining the future birth, the custom of reminding the dying person
of his good deeds and making him perform wholesome actions still
prevails in Buddhist countries.
Habitual kamma is next in priority
of effect. It is the action one constantly performs and recollects and
which one has great liking.
The last is Cumulative kamma that
embraces all that cannot be included in the above three. This is, as it
were, the reserve fund of a particular being.
c) Time of Taking Effect
There are moral and immoral actions that produce their effects in this
very life or in a subsequent life or in any life in the course of one’s
wandering in Samsara:
These actions are Immediately Effective,
Subsequently Effective and Indefinitely Effective kamma. When such
actions that should produce their effects in this life or subsequent
lives do not operate, they are termed Ineffective.
d) Plane where Effects Take Place
The last classification is according to the plane in which the effects take place, namely:
1) Immoral actions that ripen in the Sensual Plane (Kāma loka) of misery, namely: hell, animal, ghost and demon realms.
2) Moral actions that ripen in the Sensual Plane (Kāma loka) of
happiness, namely the human and the six celestial realms. In Abhidhamma,
they are the eight types of wholesome consciousness (sobhana citta)
pertaining to the Sensual Sphere.
3) Moral actions that ripen in the
Form Plane (Rūpa loka) of Brahmas with form. They are the rūpa jhānas,
namely: the first, second, third and fourth jhāna.
4) Moral actions
that ripen in the Formless Plane (Arūpa loka) of Brahmas possessing mind
only but without form. They are the arūpa-jhānas, namely: Realm of
Infinite Space, Realm of Infinite Consciousness, Realm of Nothingness,
and Realm of Neither Perception nor Non-Perception.
9. Is One Bound to Reap All That One Has Sown in Just Proportion?
While the Law of Kamma states that we reap what we sow, there is
another aspect of kamma that is also very important, namely, that
kamma-results can be modified:
This means that the Law of Kamma does
not operate with mechanical rigidity but allows for modifications in
the ripening of the fruit.
It is this dynamic aspect of kamma that the Buddha declared in Aṅguttara I, 249 as follows:
“If anyone says that a man must reap everything according to his deeds,
in this case there is no religious life, nor is there an opportunity
afforded for the entire extinction of sorrow”.
“But if anyone says
that what a man reaps accords with his deeds, in that case there is a
religious life, and an opportunity is afforded for the entire extinction
of sorrow”.
These statements by the Buddha tell us that kamma is
not fate or predestination. Nor is one bound to reap all that one has
sown in just proportion.
We can explain this by the simile of the
billiard ball, whose direction can be changed or even stopped by sending
another billiard ball to hit it at an appropriate angle.
Like any
physical event, the mental process constituting a kammic action does not
exist in isolation. Thus its efficacy in producing a result depends not
only on its own potential but also upon the potential of other kammas.
We see for example, that a particular kamma either moral, or immoral,
may sometimes have its result strengthened by supportive kamma, weakened
by obstructive kamma, or even annulled by destructive kamma.
The
occurrence of the result can also be delayed if the condition for
ripening is not complete; and that delay may again give chance for
obstructive or destructive kamma to operate.
Besides external conditions, the spiritual quality of the mind from which the volition arises can affect the results:
To one rich in moral or spiritual qualities, a single offence may not
entail the weighty results the same offence will have for one who is
poor in such protective virtues.
The Buddha compares this with the
taste of water from a cup wherein a lump of salt has been added against
the taste of water from the Ganges River in which the same lump of salt
has been thrown in.
Thus although Aṅgulimāla killed many people
before he met the Buddha, and his action would have landed him in the
woeful states in future existences,
his attainment of Arahantship
effectively closed the door to future rebirth and suffering, although he
would still have to bear the dire consequences while he lived.
So
complicated is the web of kammic conditioning that the Buddha declared
kamma-result to be one of the “four unthinkables”, that are beyond the
range of thought and should not be speculated upon.
But though the working of kamma is beyond our intellect, the important practical message is clear:
the fact that kamma-results are modifiable frees man from the shackles
of predestination and fatalism and keeps the road to liberation
constantly open before him.
Everyone has a certain amount of free
will to mould one’s life or modify one’s actions. Even the most vicious
person can become a virtuous person if he wants to change his life and
makes the effort to do so.
However, everything in this world,
including man himself is subject to conditions and without the necessary
conditions, nothing can arise.
10. Lessons Learnt from Kamma
The kamma doctrine of the Buddha is a teaching of moral and spiritual responsibility for oneself and others:
The more we understand the Law of Kamma, the more we realize how
careful we must act in thought, speech and deeds if we wish to
accumulate wholesome kamma.
For when a certain thought, speech or
deed is performed regularly, there is a definite tendency to repeat the
act. Thus each act, mental or physical tends to produce its like and be
in turn produced, a condition called asevana or habitual recurrence.
Wholesome actions performed regularly tend to increase the tendencies
to goodness while unwholesome actions performed regularly tend to do the
opposite.
The advice given by the Buddha in the Dhammapada sums up the lessons to learnt from kamma:
Do not disregard evil lightly, saying: “It will not come nigh unto me”;
by the falling of drops even a water jar is filled; likewise the fool,
gathering little by little, fills himself with evil. (Verse 121)
Do
not disregard merit, saying: “It will not come nigh unto me”; by the
falling of drops even a water jar is filled; likewise the wise man,
gathering little by little, fills himself with good. (Verse 122)
According to Venerable Ledi Sayadaw, by the declaration:
“All living beings are owners of their actions, heirs of their actions;
they originate from their actions, are related to their actions, have
their actions as their refuge”,
the Buddha also meant that the
wholesome and unwholesome actions performed once by a being during his
lifetime, may ripen even after a lapse of thousands of existences or
world cycles.
The wholesome kammas that yield good results and
unwholesome kammas that yield bad results always accompany the
life-continuum of a being.
Therefore one should always love and
esteem good conduct more than one’s own life by performing meritorious
actions. On the other hand one should always shun evil conduct more than
the danger of death and refrain from evil deeds.
