I received your kind invitation to Pondicherry Swimathon at West Tambaram on 29-5-2022 morning. I went to Kottakuppam Senenity Beach Road to participate in 10km 🌊 ocean swimming 🏊 🏊♂️ 🏊♀️ event. Many 👨 swimmers returned back as the ocean had high waves. I saw 👀 my friend Muthukrishnan from Bengaluru also. My humble request is for the organisers to issue us certificates to be shared in all social media including more than 5000 emails, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, In and so on.

Shunga dynasty, Indian ruling house founded by Pushyamitra about 185 BCE, which replaced the Mauryan dynasty. Pushyamitra assassinated Brihadratha, the last Mauryan ruler, at a military parade and assumed royal power. Pushyamitra was a Brahman, and, though he is said to have persecuted Buddhists, Buddhism still flourished in many areas under his control.
Most of the traditional accounts of Pushyamitra’s reign are late in date. According to these, his rule extended over the cities of Pataliputra, Ayodhya (Oudh), and Vidisha and perhaps over Jalandhara and Shakala as well.
Pushyamitra conducted several campaigns against the Yavanas, Indo-Greeks, who were trying in this period to expand from Bactria into northwestern India.

The Sunga rule, extending a little over a century, is in interlude in the history of India. There is nothing extraordinary about the political events associated with the Sungas. The significance of their history, on the other hand, primarily consists in the place they occupy in the social and cultural history of India.
The founder of the dynasty, Pushyamitra Sunga, overthrew the Mauryas; either in 187 B.C. or 184 B.C. After him there were nine other rulers. Among them, Agnimitra, Vasumitra, Bhagvata and Devabhumi were the prominent ones. The names of the first two were associated with some events in political history, whereas the latter two were known for their long rule, they being 32 and 10 years respectively.
There is some controversy about the identity of Pushyamitra Sunga. It was stated in a Sutra that he belonged to a family of teachers. Patanjali claims that he was a brahminor the Bhardwaja gotra. Ivyavadana stated that the Sungas were related to the Mauryas. A Malavikagnimitram refers to them as brahmins belonging to Kashyap gotra.
After the overthrow of Brihadrata, Pushyamitra Sunga waged a few wars to consolidate his position. Evidence shows that Pushyamitra Sunga defeated the Yavanas. This is confirmed by Patanjali’s Mahabashva. And the claim made in the Hathigumpha inscription that Kharavela of Kalinga defeated Pushyamitra Sunga cannot be sustained because Kharavela ruled in the second half of the first century B.C. Later, Vasumitra, the grandson of Pushyamitra Sunga, defeated the Yavanas. This is confirmed by the Malavikaganimtiram and gargi Samhita. Both Agnimmitra and Veerasena fought against Vidarbha rule of the Sungas ended C. 75 B.C.
Some scholars regard that the establishment of Sunga dynasty ws symbolic of the brahminical reaction to the Mauryan bias towards Buddhism. Pushyamitra Sunga performed the vedic sacrifices of asvamedha, and the others like aginstoma, Rajasuya and vajpeiya.
The claim of Divyavandana, that Pushyamitra Sunga destroyed 84,000 Buddhist stupas and slaughtered srameans,May be, the Buddhists of India welcomed the invasion of Menander’ and this might have resulted in Pushyamitra Sunga wrath falling on the Buddhists. Or, may be withdrawal of royal patronage with the coming of the Sungas apparently enraged the Buddhists and thus the Buddhists writers present an account of their troubles.
The Sungas attempted to revive the caste system with the social supremacy of the brahmins. This is more than evident in the work of Manu (Manusmriti) wherein he reassures the position of the brahmins in the fourfold society. Even then, the most significant development of the Sunga era was marked by various adjustment and adaptations leading to the emergence of mixed castes and the assimilation of the foreigners in India society. Thus we notice that Brahminism gradually transformed itself in a direction towards Hinduism.
Pushyamitra revived manusmriti practice beliefs the brahmin as 1st 🥇 rate athma/soul Kshatriya, vysia, Shudra as second🥈 third🥉 and fourth rate souls and the aboriginal Adi Shudras as having no soul at all so that all sorts of atrocities could be committed on them. But the Buddha never 👎 believed in any soul. He said all are equal 🟰. This was not tolerated by Pushyamitra or today’s chitpavan brahmin. Therefore they keep opposing Buddhism ☸️ and our marvellous 🤩 modern Constitution based on Buddhism.
All told the importance of the sunga dynasty lies in the restoration of Real politik while abandoning the asokan approach.

शुंग राजवंश, पुष्यमित्र द्वारा लगभग 185 ईसा पूर्व स्थापित भारतीय शासक घर, जिसने मौर्य वंश की जगह ली। पुष्यमित्र ने एक सैन्य परेड में अंतिम मौर्य शासक बृहद्रथ की हत्या कर दी और शाही सत्ता ग्रहण की। पुष्यमित्र एक ब्राह्मण थे, और, हालांकि उनके बारे में कहा जाता है कि उन्होंने बौद्धों को सताया, बौद्ध धर्म अभी भी उनके नियंत्रण में कई क्षेत्रों में फला-फूला।
पुष्यमित्र के शासनकाल के अधिकांश पारंपरिक खाते देर से आते हैं। इनके अनुसार, उसका शासन पाटलिपुत्र, अयोध्या (अवध), और विदिशा के शहरों और शायद जालंधर और शाकला पर भी फैला था।
पुष्यमित्र ने यवन, इंडो-यूनानियों के खिलाफ कई अभियान चलाए, जो इस अवधि में बैक्ट्रिया से उत्तर-पश्चिमी भारत में विस्तार करने की कोशिश कर रहे थे।
शुंग शासन, जो एक सदी से थोड़ा अधिक समय तक फैला हुआ है, भारत के इतिहास में अंतःस्थापित है। शुंगों से जुड़ी राजनीतिक घटनाओं में कुछ भी असाधारण नहीं है। दूसरी ओर, उनके इतिहास का महत्व मुख्य रूप से भारत के सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक इतिहास में उनका स्थान है।
राजवंश के संस्थापक पुष्यमित्र शुंग ने मौर्यों को उखाड़ फेंका; या तो 187 ई.पू. या 184 ई.पू. उसके बाद नौ अन्य शासक हुए। इनमें अग्निमित्र, वसुमित्र, भागवत और देवभूमि प्रमुख थे। पहले दो के नाम राजनीतिक इतिहास की कुछ घटनाओं से जुड़े थे, जबकि बाद के दो अपने लंबे शासन के लिए जाने जाते थे, वे क्रमशः 32 और 10 वर्ष के थे।
पुष्यमित्र शुंग की पहचान को लेकर कुछ विवाद है। एक सूत्र में कहा गया है कि वह शिक्षकों के परिवार से ताल्लुक रखता था। पतंजलि का दावा है कि वह भारद्वाज गोत्र के ब्राह्मण थे। इव्यवदान ने कहा कि शुंग मौर्यों से संबंधित थे। एक मालविकाग्निमित्रम उन्हें कश्यप गोत्र से संबंधित ब्राह्मणों के रूप में संदर्भित करता है।
बृहद्रता को उखाड़ फेंकने के बाद, पुष्यमित्र शुंग ने अपनी स्थिति को मजबूत करने के लिए कुछ युद्ध किए। साक्ष्य बताते हैं कि पुष्यमित्र शुंग ने यवनों को हराया था। इसकी पुष्टि पतंजलि के महाभाष्य से होती है। और हाथीगुम्फा शिलालेख में किया गया दावा है कि कलिंग के खारवेल ने पुष्यमित्र शुंग को हराया था, क्योंकि खारवेल ने पहली शताब्दी ईसा पूर्व के उत्तरार्ध में शासन किया था। बाद में, पुष्यमित्र शुंग के पोते वसुमित्र ने यवनों को हराया। इसकी पुष्टि मालविकागनिमतिराम और गार्गी संहिता से होती है। अग्निमित्र और वीरसेन दोनों ने शुंगों के विदर्भ शासन के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ी, जो सी। 75 ई.पू.
कुछ विद्वानों का मानना है कि शुंग वंश की स्थापना बौद्ध धर्म के प्रति मौर्य पूर्वाग्रह के प्रति ब्राह्मणवादी प्रतिक्रिया का प्रतीक है। पुष्यमित्र शुंग ने अश्वमेध के वैदिक यज्ञ किए, और अन्य जैसे अगिनस्टोमा, राजसूय और वाजपेयी।
दिव्यवंदन का दावा, कि पुष्यमित्र शुंग ने 84,000 बौद्ध स्तूपों को नष्ट किया और श्रमणों का वध किया, हो सकता है, भारत के बौद्धों ने मेनेंडर के आक्रमण का स्वागत किया हो और इसके परिणामस्वरूप पुष्यमित्र शुंग का क्रोध बौद्धों पर पड़ रहा हो। या, शाही संरक्षण की वापसी के साथ शुंगों के आने से बौद्ध स्पष्ट रूप से क्रोधित हो गए और इस प्रकार बौद्ध लेखक अपनी परेशानियों का लेखा-जोखा प्रस्तुत करते हैं।
शुंगों ने ब्राह्मणों के सामाजिक वर्चस्व के साथ जाति व्यवस्था को पुनर्जीवित करने का प्रयास किया। मनु (मनुस्मृति) के काम में यह स्पष्ट से अधिक है, जिसमें उन्होंने चौगुनी समाज में ब्राह्मणों की स्थिति को आश्वस्त किया है। फिर भी, शुंग युग का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण विकास विभिन्न समायोजन और अनुकूलन द्वारा चिह्नित किया गया था, जिससे मिश्रित जातियों का उदय हुआ और भारतीय समाज में विदेशियों का समावेश हुआ। इस प्रकार हम देखते हैं कि ब्राह्मणवाद ने धीरे-धीरे खुद को हिंदू धर्म की दिशा में बदल दिया।
पुष्यमित्र ने पुनर्जीवित मनुस्मृति प्रथा को ब्राह्मणों को प्रथम श्रेणी आत्मा/आत्मा क्षत्रिय, वैसिया, शूद्र को द्वितीय, तृतीय और चतुर्थ श्रेणी की आत्माओं के रूप में और आदिवासी आदि शूद्रों को बिल्कुल भी आत्मा नहीं माना ताकि उन पर सभी प्रकार के अत्याचार किए जा सकें। . लेकिन बुद्ध ने कभी किसी आत्मा में विश्वास नहीं किया। उन्होंने कहा कि सभी समान हैं। यह पुष्यमित्र या आज के चितपावन ब्राह्मण को बर्दाश्त नहीं था। इसलिए वे बौद्ध धर्म ☸️ और बौद्ध धर्म पर आधारित हमारे अद्भुत आधुनिक संविधान का विरोध करते रहते हैं।
